Hello guys!

My boyfriend and I went Raw about 3+weeks ago and are doing well. I have lost about 12lbs but he has lost about 20+ and was already 180ish (healthy for him). He is 6'2 and a slim guy and he used to be 200lbs last year (bodybuilding). Of course, you cannot stay at 200+ lbs as a Raw Vegan BUT he is a healthy weight around 170-180. Any suggestions on how we can bring his weight back to a healthy 175? We are having trouble finding meals that are heavy and that are high in calories. Any suggestions? Men out there?

Please help!

Thank you! :)

Add nut butters and lots of oils into your diet.

Avoid coconut oil and avocados in high amounts, because these things have been medically proven to speed up metabolism even though they are high in fat. I am not saying do not ever eat these things during the week, but don't think eating 2 avocados a day will get you fatter.

Don't eat a lot of spices in your foods, because stuff like chiles, cinnamon, hot peppers, red pepper, etc speeds up metabolism too. '

But some people over the years say that big weightloss isn't due to raw, but your body expelling toxins in your body, which causes inflammation. After a few months of being raw, your body will stop losing weight drastically, because your body has almost cleansed itself of toxins that holds excess fat to the body.

It will probably do that by itself. Most people loose too much in the beginning as their bodies are rebuilding but that will stop and you will regain to get to the weight that you should be at.
Having said that I am assuming that he is getting enough calories. If not then he should increase it. You have to get enough calories.

Eat more.. lol. Most likely it's just the fact that you're eating a raw diet that you're losing so much weight, plus muscle burns calories.

Like.. to maintain a body weight of 200 lbs and a lot of muscle, you need to be eating sooo much fruits.

The only real way to get enough calories besides eating more fruit is to eat more fats... But be careful, don't eat too much fats.

i disagree renerdrat. lots of people eat a few (to many) avocados a day and thrive on that. every body is different hence why there is no one right meal to eat while raw.

as sport mentioned... going down in weight is normal and then finding your 'true weight' happens as you gain weight. it's common in the raw food community for this to happen.

congrats on your choice to increase your health!

Yeah sure, I mean there are many people that can do fine with eating lots of cookies and junk food and not gain weight.. then there's those that will not gain any weight. For the majority of people, eating those bad foods is going to affect them negatively... the same goes for eating high fat, high sugar.

It's a fact.. that too much fat in the blood inhibits insulin's effectiveness, it slows down blood sugar from getting where it needs to be, which can leave you feeling foggy headed, less energy. I see people that have gone raw but they still have various problems.. like actually gaining weight, feeling fatigued, candida.
I think, from what I've researched, is that, it's caused from too much fat consumption. It's science, it's not like I'm just making this up.

Go for foods with lots of caloric density. (Google the concept if you're not sure what I mean.)

I'd personally be rawking the RP brownies, banana whips with nut butters/ground nuts/dates, rich salad dressings made of tahini and miso on salads with lots of greens, seeds, and dried fruits. I'd be making gourmet recipies for raw taco filling, flax crackers, and ginger almond nori rolls, and noshing on desserts every day.

Oh, how I envy those who have metabolisms that are too fast! Even on raw, I just cannot eat that much!

I gained 50 lbs from being raw from consuming a lot of healthy fat oils. However, avocados are heavy in fat and I lose weight when I was eating one to two avocados a day.

I think certain foods can make or break your weightloss or weight gaining efforts, because certain foods just have certain properties like a medicine to produce a certain affect on the body.

I truly believe that food itself is a natural medicine and you have to stay away from, or consume a certain type of food in order to do certain things to your body.

I am a low fat fan as well but it may not be what everyone wants and I know that it would not have worked for me in the beginning.
I needed the high fat diet to keep me raw in the beginning.

Hola Chicos!

Our Omega juicer came in this week so we started cooking and playing with recipes. He has increased the amount of calories drastically with these recipes which has helped a lot! We made lasagna and are having a delicious green juice every morning along with soaking nuts and and sprouting seeds. Shakes and smoothies are next! ;) I'm sure that once the dehydrator & blender arrive things will simply get much better as they have been. :D

This is just our first month and we're still trying to figure things out. I thank you all soooo much for your wonderful advice!

Have a wonderful weekend!

*hugs*

Meditate for the next 3 nights and gift your rapid metabolism to me. I'll meditate each night and receive the gift plus release some fat for any skinny chic out there that wishes she had a yoga booty or more yaya's.

:D
i'VE ALSO READ THAT HIGH DENSITY FOODS ARE KEY
load up a smoothie with bananas and brazil nuts
get some rawritos in the dehydrator when it arrives
make some oats groats cookies and some RP brownies and enjoy

Kudos to you both!

Hello ladies!

I should have really updated this...

Okay, so Carlos (BF) is doing wonderfully. He has reached his 'normal weight' and is no longer super hungry all the time and stopped loosing weight. His skin has cleared up A LOT and he glows. He's been slacking on the gym this month (we're waiting on some special earphones) but I'm sure that once he incorporates the gym things will get even better. We're looking into enemas and colon-hydrotherapy at this point. We definitely need a couple sessions. He's maintained his weight by eating lots of super foods/nuts/seeds/chlorella/salads and green juices. Oh.. and our weekly trip to the Raw restaurant around our house (hehehe). :D

Thank you for the advice. This month, I REALLY want to play with recipes since our dehydrator is here. We've made cookies (no recipes - just what we thought would be good) and they've come out delicious.

So far so good... :D

Adriana: You're going to LOVE going 100% raw.

*many hugs and love for you both!*
