iceberg lettuce? ha ha ha I buy it like twice a month and really like it. It's cheap and crispy and does a great job of extending my other more expensive greens for salads. and it's a throwback to my childhood when that was the only lettuce I ever consumed! It certainly seems unpopular with y'all though. C'mon iceberg eaters! Come out of the closet!

Sometimes I get cravings for one special salad made with iceberg lettuce, soaked dulse, olives, with lemon juice and olive oil. Don't know what I'm really craving from this salad, the watery crunch of the lettuce or the salt in the dulse/olives, or....? Also in raw tacos, no other lettuce can replace iceberg. :)

no I love it. Who said they didn't like it? lol.
Though it doesn't have much nutrition in it though.

No way! I love iceberg lettuce, sometimes I get the urge to just make a salad with it and tomato, reminds me of my favourite sandwich when I was a kid (salad sandwhich).
I think people diss it as it's not as nutritious as darker leafy greens, and it's the lettuce people use as a limp excuse for a tiny salad next to their fried and burgers and stuff. :)

Oh! Now I'm craving iceberg with a nice ranch dressing made from soaked cashews, herbs, and garlic.
I may have to make a trek to the store tomorrow after all....

Haha, me too!! Until I saw the 'likes' instead of 'doesn't like' (I would also chime in on that sort of thread too as I do seem to be the only rawbie that doesn't like durian. :)

Before raw food, i couldn't stand iceberg salad, now i love it when i make tacco. I use it as the shelf. I like it because it is crispy and watery. As for salad, i prefer a mush green i can, lol...

I like it as well. But most of the time I find other types of lettuce more interesting, especially the red ones. But it depends on what i mix it with and other ingredients in the meal.

Love it as a huge hunk dipped in thousand island dressing!!
And I second it as a salad with big slices of tomato...and I'd add a cucumber as well.
Crunchy, watery and reminds me of being a kid :)

When I was a teen, before I had dont any research on health, and before I ever thought of eating completely raw (I was a terrible teen!) I always ate iceberg lettuce. It was actually the only "green" I enjoyed. I used to hate dark greens and would shove them aside on my plate at dinner. haha. Little did I know what I was doing.
However, I still DO love iceberg, but rarely buy it.

Blech I hated it too. I thought I was the only one. I see so much love for the stinkfruit posted everywhere. The worst part for me when I tried it was that it was the gift that kept giving. For some reason it made me burp and then I'd have to relive the taste of it,
I had to wash my hands several times to get the smell off my fingers too.

I love the spirit of this thread...but I just can't stand iceberg. It makes me kind of grumpy actually, I guess because I feel like it's a cheap excuse for greens. When I order a salad at a restaurant and all I get are tomatoes and iceberg, it's such a dissapointment...but maybe I'll turn around eventually. I am now a lover of cabbage, afterall.

I love iceberg, always have. I used to use a whole head for my salads as a kid - when I could get away with it. Now I add it to my dark green salads and almost everything else. It is full of water and feels so familiar.

I'll still eat iceberg lettuce wedge salads with chopped tomatoes, avocado and other yummies on top of it..but only if I have already consumed good amounts of green greens for the day. I love the crunch and cripsy of iceberg lettuce, nothing else beats it.

It was about the only lettuce we ever had as a kid. Just not much availble... I like it; still eat it ocassionally, but try for more dark greens.
GladI'm not the only one who admits to liking it!!

I love him so much. But mostly I think another type of lettuce most interesting, especially the reds. But it depends on what is mixed with other ingredients in the flour.

Me, too. I hate iceberg. Once I discovered romaine, I haven't eaten iceberg in about 10 years.
