It is a mindset... that being said, can you not purchase the things you like the BEST?? Have types of bread and cheese you can resist. Find raw products you like and EAT plenty. DO NOT skimp on portions or you will be hungry and will fall prey to the old ways.

I always eat my meal before I cook/eat with/for others. It makes it easier by far.

I would suggest you start by eating a little raw, like start your morning with fruit.

do that for a little while, then add more raw food,do it a little more gradual.
find a way that suits you,and take it a little slower perhaps?

good luck :)

I have to cook for my family too, so I understand where you are coming from with the temptation.

Ultimately the cravings start to fade. When I first went raw I had horrible sugar cravings. I would sit and eat raw honey, a lot of it, or dates just to get over it. I know it's not the healthiest but it helped me get to where I am now which is wonderful. Plus there are raw desserts out there and some are fairly simple. I crave much less now.

Have you tried the Onion Bread recipe? To me it is a delicious alternative to bread and super easy to make.

Another thing that has really helped me along is that I see SAD food as cartoon food. It's a mental thing I do. Like it's not real or it's an illusion. Especially when I'm driving at night and I see the fast food places lit up unnaturally, they seem like cartoons and they serve cartoon food haha. Not sure if that makes sense but I think we all find ways to get thru the rough spots.

Everything is a process. Hang in there! To stay on track I find I need to think ahead and have things I like prepared or I grab other less healthy foods. You do have to be creative with this and I love to have nut sauces and cheese available-it helps. I have started a raw recipe journal for myself with my favorites in one place so it doesn't take so long to get organized and prepare things I like. Try to stay focused on how good it is for your body and weight! Good luck!

one bite at a time, one meal at a time, one day at a time

I agree with this. Mindset is the main culprit. I have slipped a week or two since going raw, and what keeps me motivated is the overall (pardon my language) sucky feeling of being SAD. It is harder to start raw once you've fallen off the wagon for a lot of people.

K8sl8 said it well, starrt by having what you do like, portion control of the things you would like to rid yourself of. When going raw the first time, I was unable to do it cold turkey, I slowly eliminted things throughout the weeks and soon enough I wasn't even craving SAD foods. I feel radiant, light, and satisfied when I am all raw. Just keep the positives of raw in mind. Because the negative attitudes about life can persuade you to make poor choices.

It seems to take several years to fully transiton to the point where there is no longer a struggle.

Yes there is struggle... but the point is... what do you want? Do you want to be raw? Do you want the benefits that come with it?

or not.

It's your life, your body, your decision. And we support you 100% in whatever you end up choosing to do.

Personally... when I'm cooking for my family (and I'm fasting or eating raw) I put heaps of love into their meal and do the same with mine. I never ever prepare food for them when I'm hungry though. That's a recipe for disaster in my world LOL

Bread, sugar, and cheese are the most difficult foods to get over because they are physically addictive, especially the casein in cheese. After going raw I would salivate uncontrollably when handling cheese. I had to have my husband or daughter handle the cheese, and put away all leftovers after a meal. Eventually I got over it. I still cook for my family, but now the thought of putting those foods in my mouth is repulsive :p

The longer you go without indulging in cooked bites, the easier it gets. Follow Alissa's advice and "DON'T INDULGE THE THOUGHT". Reach for nuts, celery, raisins, raw whatever; but do not indulge the thought of taking a single bite of cooked food. It has a way of keeping you coming back for more.

Make sure you get enough raw carbs and fat into your diet! If you eat enough good foods you'll won't be hungry witch will really reduce your cravings and won't tempt you as much!

You might want to focus one eliminating just one thing at a time instead of eliminating everything all at once. For example, first I cut out all things gluten, and substituted breads and such with yummy veggies, but I allowed myself some cheese. Afterall while, I stopped wanting bread all together. Now I honestly think of breads as weird and spongey and unappealing.

Now that I am totally over gluten, I am now working towards being cheese-free as well. The cheese thing is still a little tough, I must admit...I guess because I usually want cheese when it's available, and raw cheese substitues in the real world ain't nothing but a fantasy, so I have to concentrate on just replacing my cheese craving with fruit. Now every time the idea of cheese pops into my head, I try to compare it to a nice, juicy orange. Doesn't a juicy orange with it's beautiful burst of orange color and gorgeous smell sound better than stinky moldy cheese?

It takes time to get there, but it's worth it. Yay for oranges and cinnamon in wintertime!
