Hi,

I have recently (1 week ago) become a 100 % raw food eater! :)

I was looking for a nice forum, and I chose this one because the atmosphere here seems great. Unfortunately I do not know anyone in person who is also a raw food eater and I'm very new to this lifestyle so a place like this to learn more about it is essential for me.

Well, I had been eating vegetarian for roughly a year and since maybe 2 months vegan until I found out about raw food and it sounded almost too good to be true so I immediately changed my diet.

Until I became a vegan I consumed protein shakes daily which I believe had a very negative impact on my health, after 3 months of drinking them I developed dry eyes! Now I can't wear contacts anymore and my eyes hurt all the time when I'm reading or on the computer. Plus I have to use artificial tears which are not really doing anything for me.

I'm hoping raw food can cure me of that, because I've read a lot of before/after stories in which people have reported of whiter eyes and whiter eyes also mean that the eyes are less dry so that's kind of my last hope.

Anyway, I don't want to bore you with my rants :D so what else is there to say, I'm male, from Germany, twenty years old, just started studying psychology...

Oh and I'm underweight so I'm hoping that I won't lose much weight.

I'm eating maybe 40 % fruit and 60 % vegetables at the moment. Very small amounts of nuts as well; I'm still trying to figure out which of them are really raw (it's a bit confusing). As supplements I'm taking 4 grams of MSM, 6 grams of Maca and I'm trying to eat some chlorella/spirulina but it's so disgusting (I dissolve it in water). :D And in the morning I do oil pulling with sesame oil.

The first two days of raw I felt great, sometimes even euphoric. Then my mood worsened and I was really down for the rest of the week especially yesterday, I was very depressed. But today I feel much better again.

I guess that's it for now. :)

Are you getting enough calories. I would be worried as the calories in veg is low. Maybe you should increase your fruit. Do you know how many calories you are getting per day.
It could be why you are not feeling great.

Thank you.:)

I think i definitely eat enough calories. One day I counted them and the number was well above 2000. Or do I need more calories while I am raw?

I usally eat 4 bananas (maybe 6), 4 oranges, 4 tangerines, 1avocado, 2 kaki fruits and lots of vegetables.

Oh and usually I have very clear skin but now it's not looking good at all.

It depends on your sex and size and level of activity and age.
I am a 58 year old female with low activity level and 5 ft 2 inch and my target is 2000

I'm male, 20 years old, 6 foot 4, 130 pounds. Activity level was very high before raw but now I'm taking a little break. I used to (and will start again in a week) work out with weights for 2 hours 3 days in the week, on 2 days cardio for ~ 40 minutes.

So I suppose I need more than 2000, should I just up my fruit intake?

Great program - thanks.

It shows me I require at least 2800 calories. At the preset carb-protein-fat ratio it says that I need to take 216 gram of protein . I can maybe consume 50 grams of protein daily without supplements, which ratio do you recommend?

Well I am an 80 10 10 person so I will not allow my protein to go above 10 % of my calories.
I have actually set mine at 30 grams per day and achieve it most days on a mainly fruit diet. I believe that 30 grams is enough for everyone.

This also forces me to have more greens (which is good for me) as I will not get the required level without it. My mineral levels would be too low without the greens as well.
If you are fully raw there are tweaks that you can make reducing the levels of somethings.
Remove the requirement for VitD and B12 from the chart as you can not get those from food (unless fortified synthetic food) and will skew your results.

Thank you! I think 30 grams protein sounds reasonable, I don't eat nuts for the time being anymore because I can't figure out which are actually raw. But vegetables like broccoli contain large amounts of protein so I'll make it up to 30 grams I guess. If it wouldn't take hours to chew a broccoli it would be even better.

Fat will be more than 10 % though probably because of avocados and I take 2 teaspoons of raw hemp oil daily.

Concerning your other post, do you supplement those vitamins (B12 and D)? I take a vegan Multivitamin and Mineral supplement at the moment to get them because even if there should be disadvantages to that (as some people believe) I think the benefits outweigh them.

If you use hemp seeds instead of hemp oil you would probably increase your protein intake while maintaining your fat level at its current level.
I supplement both B12 and D3.
You probably know that D2 is the vegan one but it is not supposed to be very effective. I get a D3 that is derived from the lanolin in sheep's wool which is not vegan but not too objectionable.
