View Full Version : Ideas appreciated for window display
I've been given the green light from our local library to put a display on raw food in their lobby and I'm stumped...
The display window is about 3.5 feet x 3 feet and is about 12 inches deep.
All I can come up with is some of my recipe books - perhaps open a couple of them to eye catching pictures and then perhaps a basket of Rainbow flax crackers because they won't go bad.
Has anyone done a display or have ideas for me? I appreciate any help and input! Thank you in advance.
Oh - and I'll be able to plug our local raw food group, so I'll have some info about that in there too. But I'd sure like something that will draw attention ~ The display will run for 1-2 weeks. *Ü*

not sure if this is what your going for, but how about some raw food equipment? obviously you dont want people to think they need all the gadgets for raw food, but it still might draw attention. like, put sprouting materials at one end, i.e sprouting bag, jars with netting over the ends, and then some pics etc, then put a blender, also popsicle molds if you have any, maybe a spiralizer with pics if you have some? i think you want to make it as fun and attractive and bright and colorful as possible...you want people to know that rawfoods isnt just carrots... are there any plants you could put in the window that would be ok, you might have to swop it out a few times, but what about a tray of sunflower greens or wheatgrass? other foods that might keep on display...how about fruit rollups or dried fruit (oranges and apples and kiwi cut in circles with the skin still on look pretty, or a bag of homemade grawnola, or oatmeal cookies? and of course the ever-famous raw-chocolate (though it personally irritates me when people use the raw chocolate fad to draw people into raw foods ;p )
i think pics are probably key; pics with beautiful presentation of food
what about putting a simple raw recipe up, like raisin/walnut truffles (i.e. raisins and walnuts in FP blended, other ingredients like carob, cocoa, coconut and goji berries optional)? we sell this at our market stall and people cant BELIEVE its just raisins and walnuts
also if you are having a raw food meetup soon, do an exciting invite to that and post info as well :)
good luck

Sounds like you have a fun project on your hand!!!
Sometimes the Craft Stores carries plastic veggies and fruits. That would work really well for presentation.
Or go with the November theme, using pumpkins and squashes for it takes along time for those to spoil. I still have my sweet dumpling squashes which have been sitting in my fridge for a long time now!! :) The title could be something like this, "Happy Harvest Time!!"
Maybe pictures of local farmers holding a basket of raw food to express our support and gratitude for the farmers. And some mini scarecrows for props.
Or uses pictures of before and after for raw food.
And maybe some kind of artwork that express "Health and Vibrancy" showing somebody standing with rays of sunshine surrounded by raw food v.s. somebody sitting on the couch surrounded by SAD food. Something like that.
Or just blend some of these ideas and totally come with your own! Have FUN!

Lot's of great ideas already for you Deb! Sounds like a great project.
Good luck and take pictures and post here for us.
kaybee ~ Thank you for all your great suggestions! I like the dehydrated items you suggested, I think those would work out great. I would *love* to have some living greens in there, that would be beautiful. I've got a spiralizer and pics of a tray of noodles - such great ideas!
healthywealthy ~ Thanks for the well wishes and you're right - the ideas are flowing thanks to everyone's suggestions!
whao-raw ~ Thanks for the fall themed ideas! Those would keep very well for the 1-2 weeks. I had been thinking about putting in 2 little sugar pumpkins that I have but after your post I remembered that I have an acorn squash and 2 beautiful yams as well. I love the "health and vibrancy" slant too - I never would have thought of that.
January Noir ~ I agree, lots of good ideas - I knew I could count on help from all of you. Thanks for the well wishes and yes, I'll take pictures and post back.
Thank you everyone - I'm so grateful for your help! *Ü*

the garden diet folks...Storm and Jinjee have some downloadable "fruit break" posters on their website
A big green smoothie and a RAW Foods Pyramid poster might be cool too

A raw food pyramid is a good idea. I came across one and saved it, too bad it is copyrighted and has SAMPLE written over it. Perhaps you could put the family to work making one for you.
Can you girls tell me what you mean by before and after pictures?
lifeAgift ~ I searched Jinjee's blog and thegardendiet.com and I'm not finding the 'fruit break' posters. However, 1 link was broken for fruitbreak.com and I wonder if that's where they were/are?
RawKnitster ~ I love that raw food pyramid, I've never seen that before!
I appreciate all your sharings so much everyone! Thank you! *Ü*

Before and After, as in a picture of yourself before you started a raw diet and a picture of yourself now. :)
There are some good before and after pics posted on RFT in the RFT diet forum in the section titled "Before and After". I have B/A posted in my RFT photo album, wish I had a real before pic but I used to avoid the camera back then. :p

As well as food prep and food items, could you add plants? A small stevia, a baby kale, a tray of wheat grass. A few packs of seeds, a dibble, a garden trowel, pair of scissors, in a hod next to them.

I like this idea :) I've got ground stevia from my garden.. (wheels turning).
I would love to add a tray of wheatgrass or sunflower greens - unfortunately the depth of the case wouldn't accomodate that. I'd sure love to fill it with live growing food! That would be beautiful.
Thanks for your suggestions streetsurfer! *Ü*
