Ok...I have been hearing/reading some things about agave lately and I think I want to try and cut it out of my diet. The biggest problem I have with this idea is that i make huge smoothies in the morning and I put all the things I dont like in it. i.e. spirulina and I can cover up that taste.
I tried Xylitol but didnt care for it. It felt like I was putting chemicals in my smoothie and it wasnt sweet enough to cover up the taste.
So do I need to get over my agave fear, get over my fear of Xylitol and just put more in the smoothie OR find another solution?
Thanks!

Have you tried dates? You can pit and soak them the night before to get them really soft.
I still use agave sometimes. Works fine for me. I have a good source, and I feel good after it. Not gonna go chasing the latest scare. The Raw Food Police are a harmless figment.
That said, date paste (on the lines of Raw Joy's suggestion) is a great substitute. You just soak dates and then blend the dates and the water to make a paste.
Coconut Nectar is also a good one. I have a TON of info on it if you're interested. :) (Just lemme know!)
(And to be clear... by info I mean order info... and I am not related to the company at all, not an affiliate or anything... just have enjoyed it quite a lot. Hubby does too!)

Would love to learn more about that. Thanks!

Duh! What a great yet simple idea. Thanks!!!!
Coconut Secret - These products are pretty new - have been a HUGE HIT in Florida where I taught classes - super natural alternatives for agave nectar/sugar/soy sauce. This company is going to be HUGE.
Nectar: 0131359 <---- Replacement for agave nectar/honey/syrups ---- I would like 2 jars.
Aminos: 0137679 <----- Replacement for soy sauce/Bragg's liquid aminos/Tamari ---- I would like 2 jars.
Vinegar: 0137689 <---- Replacement for vinegar ---- I would like 1 jar ---- but I have some in stock so can wait if needed.
Crystals: 0131419 <---- Replacement for sugar ---- I would like 2 bags.
Flour: 0131439 <---- I do NOT want to try this yet but am making note because I have the information here.
So the coconut nectar is raw, unprocessed liquid coconut sap. It's pretty yummy, but it's not quite as sweet as agave and does taste like it comes from a coconut... ;)

So glad to hear that you like those coconut sweetners! I just bought the coconut nectar and crystals at Whole Foods, but haven't tried them yet.

I'd definitely wouldn't use xylitol as an alternative. Not that it isn't natural and good for you, but it's also a very porwefull laxative. :D

Fruit, especially bananas, covers up the taste of strong flavored greens and powders. What can also help: goji powder/berries, cacao, nuts/seeds or butters. I love hemp seeds or butter to add a delicious flavor. Coconut oil is good too. Right now I'm using goji powder which goes well with most fruit.
I agree with Eva (as usual-lol) regarding agave. I've had lifelong health issues and agave has never caused any problems for me. I now rarely use it, just because I don't need it. But when I do, still no issues with it. Just be sure to get a good quality raw, organic brand. Also pay attention to how your body reacts That's really the key. If it doesn't affect you in a negative way, than likely it's fine.

Just because I made it here first! Otherwise I'd be agreeing with you! :) Great minds think alike. *giggle*

Are you getting these from whole foods or do you special order? Thanks
Hey Stina! That is from my locally owned health food store... Those are the order numbers for UNFI, which is the company pretty much every HFS orders from the most, and the only company carrying CS products in wholesale quantity (except CS which sells the large glass jugs as well). :)
