Happy Birthday Monk...hope the coming year is a great one for you.
My first time in the exercise thread. I injured my back four years ago and haven't done anything since. At that time I was walking 25 miles a week and going to Curves 3X/week and was at my lowest adult/after babies weight. I've lost so much muscle mass and gained a lot of weight since then. I haven't done any exercise because I am in constant pain from either the actual back problems or/mostly nerve compression that causes horrible pain in my left hip and leg. Walking more than five minutes is impossible. If I stop and sit down for 40 seconds or so it lets up and I can do it again...so...I bought this thing called a Walkstool and I am going to start walking again..will just take it with me and sit down as I need to and keep going.
My DH and I bought sit on top kayaks a couple of weeks ago.I love it. Uses upper body but doesn't stress my back or legs. So......am ready to move. I am going to have the pain no matter what and I just can't keep loosing physical ground and strength.
So............my plan...
1.Walk 3x/week, around the block to start.......eventual goal...to the beach......about a 20-25 minute walk each way.
2.Kayak as much as possible weather and tide times permitted (in the marshes the tides make all the difference to accessibility)
3. Recumbent Bike...2x/day EVERY DAY! As much as I can, time wise...3 minutes to start.
Thank you for this thread and for being there to share my journey..I am grateful~
Goals are to do Bikram yoga at least a few times a week and to get soooome exercise daily... Last night I went swimming with my husband... FUN stuff. I just love when exercise is fun. :)

You too! Always fun to see some of my favorite uplifting and familiar "faces" when I can stop in! :)
I can think of all sorts of fun exercises that are great ~ soon will be skating with my hubby too. He wants to get a skate board, and I have my pads and roller skates from my roller derby days. :D There's a skate park down the street... so exciting!

AWESOME! Good for you! If you want to make it feel like hot yoga ~ you can go to a sauna or work up a heavy sweat from cardio before you do the yoga ~ that way your body is way loose and warmed up like in Bikram or other hot yoga...
-------
AND, on that note... Just got back from Bikram! Great stuff! Feeling clear and inspired! And HAPPY!

Welp, turns out it wasn't really just about the toxins as it was about how darn abrasive the drink was I had yesterday ~ it was about 10-12 oz. of STRAIGHT up lemon juice, about 5 oz. of water, and a teaspoon of cayenne. LOL! NOT GOOD!
Back to almost normal, although still fasting. Might go to yoga in a couple hours. Was VERY sad to miss the salsa last night. But oh well.
P.S. AWESOME JOB to you and Stina both!! Way to keep it up!! :)

Any plans for the weekend???
I will be attending a special yoga class on Saturday where Dennis Hawk will be playing his Native American flute while we do yoga!!!
I mean really, how cool is that?!

The flute sounds beautiful.....my husband came out of a near death hospitalization five years ago wanting to make Native American style flutes....out of nowhere...he had never seen or really heard them before...was pretty amazing. Very meditative instrument.
I have been doing the bike 2x day....plan to get up early and go kayaking tomorrow...should be on the water by 8:30. It's gonna be a very chilly morning for Florida...feels like 39 according to the weather guy.....gonna love it!
Walking Sunday too!

just some walking around the neighborhood tonight will be all. I did shop a lot today as well, walked around whole foods for about 2 hours. Love love love that place. :D
2 hours walking is a lot!! Sounds like everyone is doing great! Love the positivity here!
This weekend I went to hot yoga and went for a long walk with my hubby. And had a fair amount of other exercise that just wouldn't be appropriate to share.:D
Hoping to make it to Bikram again today, might also go for a swim and play date to the local spa with Carlos. We like to jump in the pool, swim for a bit, then run to the sauna and veg out or stretch, then switch to the steam room... then jump back in the pool. Until we get tired of it. If not tonight then I hope soon! It's FUN. :)

Hi!!!
I'm so excited that there's a Fitness thread on here! Yessssss! This is my 3rd week going 100% raw and my first reply. I've lost about 10lbs and have combined the raw diet with weight lifting, cardio and a little yoga. I have heard that weight lifting is very important in a raw diet since you loose most of your muscle mass. Is that correct? I've been getting wonderful results with a combination of these three.
Many blessing for you all! *hugs*

Rolling along with hoop dancing which continues to be amazing! Took a 3-day intensive in late October with my teacher plus a guest instructor for advanced beginners/intermediates. What a powerful experience - I was high for several day afterward and this was 3 weeks ago! Learned more new moves and bought a new lighter-weight hoop which makes a REAL difference in challenge. One would think a light-weight hoop would be easier, and for some things it is, but due to it's lightness it's also fast, and one's body has to keep up with this with control and movement - awesome and I'm loving it! Today I was at my gym(rest day as far as weights go)practicing at full-tilt for an hour - it can be a great cardio workout too if you're moving it, which I was - plus it's so-o much fun! I had my iPod set-up too with good earphones that don't fall off my ears which really helps. Have 9 hours of an amazing Dutch DJ on that thing - excellent for hooping! Continuing with Pilates mat class at my gym twice a week - it's still very challenging but I am slowly improving on some stuff, which is pretty much par for the course for this very challenging, but effective mind/body discipline. So between 3x a week weight-training, 2x a week Pilates class, and often 4 days a week at least of hooping, and a couple of high-intensity interval training days on the elliptical(also at gym)I think I got it covered as far as cross-training LOL!
Ordered some more hemp protein powder to go in my smoothies - this and the chia seeds do really help fuel all this along with other raw goodies. I do need to eat.

I need to make sure I do aerobic exercise 6x a day, in addition to smaller exercise/stretching sessions. I sit way too much so just normal exercise is like doing nothing for my body. If I walk twice a day at least, that helps. Aerobics and dancing will cover the rest.
