Hello Everyone,

I have now started down the Raw path and finding it going okay. Key thing I have noted after my first 2 weeks and only a couple of cheats, is that apart from the weight loss (6lbs) is the great sleep I have been getting. I am not a bad sleeper at all, but the quality and length have been amazing... anyway I digress.

One of the many reasons I started raw was running and injury. I was a very very good runner and over the years i have suffered recurring injurys of calf and achilles. I have had a fair bit of success with various injury prevention stategies, strengthening programs, shoes etc. I am now in a better state of repair and my achilles and calfs are getting ready to run again, not because of the diet, simply due to my managing/maintaining them. My tendons are pretty strong and I have spent many months painfully breaking down the scar tissue to prevent any further inflamation or tendonitis.

However I wanted to know peoples experiences if any, of the diet on achilles tendon repair / scar tissue and injury....

Many thanks

Hello my dear!

No reports of the diet's effect on this issue----just wanted to affirm that you're doing everything that I *have* seen work (and as a clinical massage therapist/herbalist/personal trainer---I've seen a lot!)

Good nutrition from a nourishing and anti-inflammatory raw diet will suerly be a help to you. (Have you read Brendan Brazier's book? I think you'd love it!)

Happy running,
Melanie

Your food program may be the issue yet, probably not. It's most likely your shoes.

Many runners who began as barefoot runners never had a problem until they began wearing shoes. Shoes act as crutches thereby weakening the feet. I suggest you pick up a book entitled "Barefoot Running" in which they explain all this. Take those shoes off; get you some "minimalist" shoes, strengthen your feet, ankles, tendons, etc., and, happy (injury free) running!

Thanks Melanie and Revvell,

I have been looking at Brendans book and just ordered myself a copy. Good to hear a masseur confirm I am doing okay. Breaking down the scar tissue is damn painful but the good thing is it stops hurting when I stop needing my achilles and calfs. I have a masseur who also gives them a good beating, you guys can be sadists... but its definetly working.

Revvell, I have read the "born to run" book. In fact I think its how I ended up here. Storys of Ultra runners eating salads before 20, 30 milers and the super food of Chia. I do as much barefoot running as I can, if it gets too cold I slip on some vibrams. I would put a lot of my recovery down to the barefoot work and massage.

I am hoping that the work I am already doing on top of the RAW will make me a more robust and address the weaknesses that have built up over years of miles and a rather poor diet. If I can get back to 2hour plus runs again I will be happy.
