I'm new here. I tried the raw lifestyle a few times but eventually fell off.
Now I am suffering from sensitivity and irrational reactions to some everyday sounds, such as car doors closing, dogs barking, gum chewing.
As I write this I am watching my neighbors arrive home & slam four car doors in a row...it is so irritating.

I researched online and discovered a name for it...misophonia.

My question: has the raw food lifestyle helped anyone with irritability and sound sensitivity?

When I ate raw in the past I noticed a slight improvement in my mood.

By the way, I have been a long time advocate of natural health, taking many vitamins and supplements( which may be my problem) and helped my body heal itself, but I am stuck right now.
Any help? Thanks.

I have not noticed this but if you noticed an improvement b4, I'd try to be as raw as possible.

Yes, I tolerate sound much better. I read somewhere that sound intolerance could be a magnesium deficiency. Wish I could remember where I read/heard that.

QUOTE : Magnesium is a must. The diets of all Americans are likely to be deficient........Even a mild deficiency causes sensitiveness to noise, nervousness, irritability, mental depression, confusion, twitching, trembling, apprehension, insomnia, muscle weakness and cramps in the toes, feet, legs, or fingers.

Thank you ,everyone for taking the time to help me. I think I DO have a magnesium deficiency because my chiropractor has told me on several occasions that I have muscle spasms in my shoulder.

My sound sensitivity worsens whenever I eliminate bad foods so I hope that it improves after I finish cleansing those foods from my system and increase magnesium consumption.
Thanks so much!

Wow, glad someone else has had it help ~ that's interesting ~ magnesium deficiency does SO much!

Funny, raw hasn't affected my ears at all... BUT if something drops and makes a large sound, my adrenals are so happy and at ease that I don't freak out. I just "Oh, whoopsies, suppose I should pick that up." like it was nothing. :)

That's so funny that you shoud mention that. I just noticed it today that being on high raw seems to make me less irritable in general. Even fruit flies don't really bother me anymore. :D

This is all very interesting information on magnesium. I'll keep watching what you guys post.

Oh my goodness...that sounds just terrible.

I'm not sure about raw foods helping or hurting this condition, and I'm not sure about magnesium as a specific remedy (though it has relaxant properties in general and if you're getting it from whole raw foods, it can only benefit you!)

I'm wondering about your stress management picture. Do you have the ability to take quiet time for yourself each day? Do you have joyful movement and exercise in your life on a daily basis? Do you have opportunities to be in a place of peace and soliltude where you can restore your Self? It sounds like your body may be crying out for these things. Breathwork, hot baths, lavender essential oil, yoga, and massage therapy could all be tremendously helpful.

Have you ever received CranioSacral therapy? I think it could be a tremendous help to calm your nervous system and correct any structural problems with the temporal bones that could be contributing to this issue.

Feel better,
Melanie

Thanks, Melanie. I have PLENTY of time alone since I am single with no children. I have done breathwork( which is no longer working) , am taking hot baths, cold showers, using lavender, occasionally yoga, self hypnosis, etc. Maybe the time alone is contributing to my issues because I have more time to think and hear.

It's funny that once I get over a certain sound bothering me, another takes it place. But , at least it gives me hope of getting over the current sound.

Just tired of being irritable, which is exacerbated whenever I cleanse or eat properly. I am now on a raw juice fast and hoping for the good feeling I had in the past toward the end of a 21 day fast.

Sound sensitivity might just be one of those things that natural selection gave us to help us survive..... in a quiet, primal world...that is.

I have it too  and I do think it's because of irritability, mainly, otherwise it wouldn't bother me so...

I have it too; didn't know it had a name, lol. Without a doubt raw has helped, but I don't really know if I'm less irritable so the sounds don't bother me as much OR if I'm less sensitive to sound... Either way it's better. I used to go thru streaks where I couldn't stand to listen to my husband BREATHE!!! Now that's bad... Let's not even talk about gum chewers, whistlers, nail clippers.... and the list goes on.

I agree with the magnesium deficiency thing.... I have the same problem off and on as you with sound. even things that aren't loud, it could just be too many noises combined really. I have major problems absorbing magnesium, so perhaps you are having a similar issue? My levels go up a bit when I do epsom salt baths and use magnesium gel on my skin, then the problem goes away.

thank you, Tenuviel
I recently purchased some magnesium chloride oil and started using it yesterday. Hope to get results soon.
