I EAT IT RAW.. BY ITSELF, with my hands. MMMMM

If you make kale chips then you'll definitely like it! Just don't put it in a smoothie--I made that fatal mistake a long time ago :)

...there's 'purple' kale, there's green kale, there's curly kale, there's Lacinato kale, there's 'Russian Red' kale...etc...each type with its distinct flavor [some mild, some bold] and texture [some rough, some smooth].

What kind of kale did you have? :)

I don't know. It was just the generic kale.

Greens definitely become tastier the longer you're raw. I can eat practically any alone, though usually I have a bit of oil or avocado or other ingredients. One day my body needed minerals and plain kale was what it seemed to want. It was exciting that I could eat it without having to chop it and marinate it if I didn't want to.

Not a big fan of eating it plain, but I like curly leaf kale like this:

For savoury eating: Dehydrate plain kale (alone or at the same time as doing other savoury things in the D), then when its dried, crush it all up and sprinkle on salads.

For smoothies: Dehydrate plain kale (alone or at the same time as doing other sweet things in the D - like fruit), then when its dried, crush it all up and add to smoothies as needed.

Kale tends to absorb the flavors of whatever it shares the D with, so for the smoothie flakes I prefer the kale to have some fruitiness to it. To crush it - just put the dried kale in newspaper, wrap it up, then squeeze, press & squash till powdered. It keeps well in glass jars.

At first I thought it tasted like eating Brillopad, at least the curly variety they carry at most stores down here in TX..but now I love it.
I love, love, love Alissa's kale salad, make sure you massage it for a good while if you want the texture to be very wilted. I do it differently every time and love it either way.
I also love it in smoothies,, make sure you take the thicker stems off before you blend, thet way you have a smoother smoothie, especialley if you are not using a highpowered blender, like VM or BT..soo good.

And yes, juicing a few leaves of kale, a few stems of celery, a lemon and an apple..makes the most delicious green lemonade ever..even my kids love it.

I had never had kale before making the kale salad. I loved it and started adding it to smoothies too. I use all kinds of kale and take the central rib out (can use those in juice).

I think it is something that you can grow to like.

I love kale. Its the one Green I eat the most. My favorite kale is the dino kale. Its easiest to clean in my opinion. Put it in a smoothie or make a salad with it.

I don't know much about kale types. I used to find kale chewy, dry, tough and kind of prickly. I found a more tender organic type, and I now just loooooove to eat it plain :) So maybe experiment with the different types, I'm sure one will suit you a little better

I like it in smoothies... don't taste it at all if there is banana or pineapple in the mix. Just adds beautiful color.

A question: any chance that you got mustard greens instead of kale? At first glance they are similar especially some of the varieties - and if you don't really know either one... I grabbed in a hurry once at the grocery early on and was REALLY surprised when I had my smoothie the next morning... YIKES.

fatal mistake? seriously? you died from it?

i loooove kale in my smoothies. it makes it thicker but as long as you add extra water you are good to go. very very high in calcium!!!

i looooove kale salad.

cut up in small bites sized pieces
put in large bowl.
drizzle with extra virgin olive oil
salt

now get your hands in there a really massage those kale pieces. really well. your hands should be sore when you are done!!! they'll turn a dark green... once you've done that... add some garlic and let it sit for 20 minutes.

then top with some cucumbers and cherry toms and ENJOY!!!

this will last three days in the fridge. when i first went raw i had this in my fridge all the time. ate it twice a day. yup... i used to be the kale queen LOL
