Acid or Allergy in strawberries

I was at a friends house for a get together. The only food she had out that I could eat was strawberries. So for 2 hours I ate strawberries. As the evening went on I noticed my mouth felling fuzzy and my palate feeling sore. Later in the mirror I saw small red marks on my face. Do I suddenly have an allergy to strawberries???? Could it be the acid in the strawberries, much like the burning of a pineapple many experience? Or could it be something less obvious like pesticides?

Has anyone else felt mouth soreness form eating many strawberries?

Strawberries are on the "dirty dozen" list as very high in pesticides. They are one of the fruits that I would not eat unless they were organic.

Well how weird! I just came back from my doctor today and he confirmed I am allergic to kale. Just so you know, I am allergic to sulfur and Kale is super high in the sulfur category. My symptoms after only having kale for about 4 days straight.....Ulcer like thingy (which he said was some sort of ulcer, lol) on the roof of my mouth, tingling of face, chin and lips, my face is flushing, small red bumps on chest and face and just feeling kinda yucky like I have a fever. I'm super bummed about being allergic to kale. I've been raw for 10 months today! Yeah me. This is the second time I've tried to incorporate it into my diet and both times I've had a reaction. Last time was just that my eyes were burning red the morning after I ate it. It was dino kale last time and just the regular ole kinda kale this week, both organic. If I had to guess, I'd say allergic. Although do try it again I suppose just to confirm. Boo to allergies!

Kale or any green can be slightly toxic after many days. You need to switch greens around to not get too mch of one thing...thus the allergy type situation. I have had this as well.

Strawberries are one of the most pesticided fruits there are. It can cause those reactions and MORE! yikes!

It may just be that you ate too many, if you were eating them on and off for two hours:)

I do not have issues with strawberries unless I eat them for days, which I discovered during this year's strawberry season. Since there is only one of me, if I buy a three pack, I have to be very strong willed and not eat them all. :eek: This past year is when I figure this out. If I eat some and let a day or two go by, I can eat more and I am fine and don't experience mouth soreness or any other weird symptom. I just can't eat them days in a row. They are potent and for you (and me), it looks like you can't eat a lot at once.

Ummm, I haven't had kale in about 6 months so I don't think eating it for 4 days straight would be a problem. I'm allergic to any kind of sulfur drug...so it kinda makes sense that I would be allergic to kale. :)
