I am starting a green smoothie fast today. I intend to go for a couple of weeks.

Today my green smoothie consists of bananas, swiss chard, cherry tomatoes, apple, ginger, & stevia.

Thank you Aleesha. I like your photo. Your smile is very bright.

Day 2
I added seeds and coconut butter to my GS today. These combos have a little bit more staying power. But I still often feel mildly hungry not long after taking a serving of GS. If I pay attention to my hunger, I would have to take a GS every hour.

Day 3

My greens today are kale and spinach. Spinach is my favorit. I can add a lot of spinach to GS and the GS still tastes good.

I am quite content with drinking only GS so far.

I'm joining you in spirit! It's really extra hard to fast when you're putting together a recipe book... although I'm sticking with just GS until dinner today because I could use a bit of a rest on the digestive system... and a touch of cleanout.

How are you doing today?

Any hunger or weakness?

No weakness at all. On the other hand, I probably am not consuming less calories than before when I ate solid raw foods.

The first two days I thought I often felt a mild hunger. But now I think it is just a different feeling. I will call it a light feeling. I think one can get used to it. This afternoon I was doing something interesing and did not think of food at all for more than 4 hours.

Day 4
The greens for today are spinach, baby bok choy, and kale.

This evening I made a wonderfully-tasting GS with much spinach and a lttle bok choy.

Day 5

I am enjoying a calm feeling. I feel my body is resting and I feel very comfortable physically. Also life has become simpler since I only have to make GS instead of planning and making more complex meals.

I'm working twelve and fourteen hour shifts, so I'll be joining you out of necessity. Doing labor intensive work on nothing but green smoothies j just goes to show how powerful they are. How long are you going for?

Day 6
I had a social yesterday so I took a break from GS. I enjoyed eating solid food. :) Today I have resumed my GS fast. I am enjoying it, in a different way.;)

I will continue to count the days I take in only GS, because I want to see how many days I can do GS fast before Christmas.

Today I concocted a new GS and liked it very well: one cup of water, 1 banana and equal amount of pineapple, 4 leaves of baby bok choy or a handful of spinach, one basil leaf, a teaspoon of coconut butter, a teaspoon of chia seeds, a tiny bit of ginger, stevia

I've replaced two meals daily with smoothies but can't quite get over the hump, especially working such long hours at two jobs. I'd like two or three days of in a row to get rolling over the initial detox. I've got a big beautiful order of organic produce coming in tomorrow to inspire me, but I feel better already with more green smoothies in me. but not bok choy anymore! I will keep that one for salads.

Are you detoxing? GS fast is supposed to be a mild cleansing and may not cause very uncomfortable detox symptoms.

This past week I tried baby boy choy for the first time in GS and found it OK. I often use the organic greeens that are on sale at my favorite grocer.

Aleesha Sattva
11-01-2010, 11:53 PM
ah but it sure can Anna. trust me on this one. my hubby and i did a 21 day green smoothie fast a few years ago... and oh man was he detoxing... something fierce. he was not a happy camper at all.

;) so although it's not as detoxing as juice fasting or water fasting... it's more detoxing than eating raw.

Anna2010
11-02-2010, 05:44 PM
Aleesha, A while back I did several weeks of GS fast and had no detox symptoms whatsoever. So I kind of harbor a lingering doubt as to whether GS fast is more cleansing than eating solid raw foods. Thank you for sharing your hubby’s experience. I am re-assured of the virtue of doing a GS fast.

Stina, how are you doing?

Day 8
I continue to experiment with baby bok choy today because it is on sale.
I like this new concoction well: 2 bananas, equal amount of pineapple, 2 ½ cups of baby bok choy, 5 cups of my home-grown cherry tomatoes, 3 fresh basil leaves, a tablespoon of coconut butter, a tbsp. of chia seeds, 2/3 tbsp of fresh ginger, stevia, 20 oz. of water. That comes up to one vitamix of good-tasting GS.

Aleesha Sattva
11-02-2010, 07:01 PM
Anna... I don't detox when fasting. I've fasted so much that detox for me is rare... so I hear you. But yup... it is detoxing... even though we aren't feeling any detox happening. ;)

Aleesha, Thank you. I am further encouraged to continue this GS fast.:)

Stina, I see doing green smoothies till dinner, followed by a salad, as a partial GS fast. Doing a partial GS fast for days or weeks (or months) is a good preparation for an all-day GS fast.
I will be happy to have you bear me company in this thread with a partial GS fast.

Anna2010

Day 10

I experimented with using berries in my GS these two days and was surprised it tasted pretty good. Today I used equal amounts of kale and of berries in my GS. I could not detect the kale taste at all.

Day 11
I seem to have settled into the GS fast without thinking much about it. I feel content and peaceful. Life is so much simpler when I don't have to think about what to eat besides GS.

Anna2010
11-07-2010, 09:01 PM
Day 12

I took a break from GS fast yesterday because of a social. I actually missed doing GS fast. Mostly I missed the feeling of peace and rest. So today I went back to GS fast with all willingness.

Anna2010
11-08-2010, 09:48 PM
Day 13

Today none of my green smoothies came out as pleasing to my taste. I could not figure out what was wrong. However, I was not tempted to eat other food. Hopefully tomorrow I will make better tasting GS.

Anna2010

Day 14
My GS still does not taste delicious today. But I am content with staying with GS. I have been very busy these days. When I get a break, I will find some GS recipes to try new combos.

Anna2010
11-10-2010, 09:35 PM
Thank you Aleesha for reminding me of that resource for GS.

But I have solved my problem! :pToday my GS contained fruits/vegis that were different from what I had been using in the past two weeks, and my GS was tasty to me again! So the problem was that for the past 2 weeks I had been using the same kinds of fruits/greens in my GS everyday and my body was simply satiated with those kinds of fruits/greens. I am happy for the discovery.

Aleesha Sattva
11-10-2010, 10:56 PM
it's important to change your greens... very important. so try to do the same for a day or two and then do another green for the next two days. ;)

Anna2010
11-11-2010, 08:28 PM
Thank you, Aleesha. Yes I should pay more attention to change my greens.

This time it was probably more due to a lack of change of fruits for my GS though. For the first few days of my GS fast, the only solid food I really missed was cantaloupe. So I used a massive amount of cantaloupe in my GS in the hope I would get satiated with it and would not miss it any more. Well, I succeeded;) , but not in the way I had hoped. :(

Anna, if you want a GS to be more cleansing at some point, either cut down or cut out the fats. Also eliminating bananas too and using more watery fruit. I love my smoothies with bananas though. If I added a lot of other fruit like mango, that would work too.

Anna2010
11-12-2010, 10:12 PM
Dimond, Thank you for your advice. Right now I am more concerned with making tasty GS so that I could stay in this GS fast for weeks. I always have ripe bananas at hand. It is a saver to unpleasant-tasting GS.
But maybe I can make my first GS on the morning more cleansing...before I am fully awake and aware of what I am drinking.;)

Aleesha, I think Dimond perhaps meant that moving away from heavier food and focusing on lighter food speed up cleansing. Isn't that a general principle of cleansing/fasting?

Aleesha Sattva

all raw foods are cleansing and healing. but greens are more healing and fruits are more cleansing.

hence why i wonder why bananas would not be considered cleansing.

Dimond said moving away from bananas towards watery fruit is more cleansing. So you don't think watery fruits such as melons are more cleansing than bananas?

Aleesha Sattva
11-15-2010, 10:17 PM
i don't know. honestly... i don't know. i would think that watery fruits are more watery... but cleansing??? i don't know if they are more cleansing. i don't think that being watery and cleansing are synonymous. i don't know if being a thicker fruit makes it less cleansing especially since the 'liquid' factor of a smoothie can be increased simply by adding more water.

Anna2010
11-16-2010, 09:23 PM
I got your point, Aleesha. Thank you.

I seem to be able to tolerate less and less greens in my GS. Maybe I need to change my greens. I have been staying with the same few kinds of greens. I kind of fear other unfamiliar greens will ruin my GS. But I will try a new green tomorrow and see how it tastes.

Aleesha Sattva
11-16-2010, 09:46 PM
I find that often making a blend works better for me. I love baby organic spinach... so adding it and perhaps 1/2 a piece of romaine. That way it doesn't taste different but brings in some different qualities. ;)

Anna2010
11-17-2010, 10:25 PM
Aleesha, Thank you. I will keep your suggestion in mind.

But right now I need to get away from romaine and spinach. These two have been my main greens all these three weeks.

Today I tried using swiss chard in my GS, which I never tried before. I blended it with melons. Again I liked my GS!:p I am a little amazed that changing greens solves my problem! So our bodies do protest against too much of the same thing through taste buds.

Anna2010
11-18-2010, 10:28 PM
Today I continue to enjoy swiss chard in GS. I feel glad I have found a green I can add to my list of favorite greens.

I found this GS delicious: water, honeydew, green swiss chard, ginger, & stevia.

I have a slight headache today. I hope it is detox. I have been very high raw for a couple of years and rarely have experienced anything close a detox.

Dimond

Dimond said moving away from bananas towards watery fruit is more cleansing. So you don't think watery fruits such as melons are more cleansing than bananas? Bananas are a bit similar to fats in that matter. They add more bulk and can slow down cleansing. It's the one fruit you can't juice. They're not bad, but if you want a more ultimate cleanse use only water fruits. You can still cleanse with banana smoothies, it just depends on your goals. Your melon smoothie sounds perfect. I'm trying to get melons around here for a liquid fast.

you can't juice avocados either... and they are a fruit. ;)

Anna2010
11-19-2010, 11:14 PM
Today I bought some collard greens for my GS and it tastes alright. Now I am really careful about changing my greens so that my GS will stay tasting good to my taste buds.

My mild headache is gone today. So it looks like my headache yesterday was indeed detox. I am glad to have had a little detox. Detox says that GS is working for me to cleanse me. I so seldom have detox symptoms that sometimes I could wonder if raw eating is really cleansing.

Anna2010
11-20-2010, 05:38 PM
This is my new GS concoction today: 1 small tuscan melon, one large collard green leave or 2 smaller leaves (Leaves that are smaller in size will be more tender and have a milder flavor), ½ to ¾ grapefruit, water, ginger, stevia. It is tasty to me.

Dimond
11-22-2010, 12:11 PM

Dimond, Thank you for your input.

But I am back today.

OK, my "Thanksgiving break" was much longer than I had planned. But I am back today.

I am exploring making savory smoothies and am surprised that I like them well. I don't know whether my taste buds have changed or I am more experienced in making good-tasting savory smoothies. Last year I did not like them.

Anna2010
11-28-2010, 07:51 PM
My main stay is savory smoothies today. I am glad I no longer depend on bananas to make smoothies.

Anna2010
11-29-2010, 09:43 PM
I have found that adding 1 grapefruit, 1 granny smith apple, and 1 carrot stick to one vitamix of smoothie can make smoothie taste good even when I totally avoid sweet fruits.

Anna2010
11-30-2010, 08:46 PM
I have found that when my smoothie does not contain sweet fruits like bananas, it sustains me for hours. But when it contains sweet fruits, I often feel hungry after one hour. I guess it has to do with spikes of blood sugar.

Just wanted to say Anna, you have inspired me to do a smoothie feast,THANK YOU!!

I am joining you or picking up where you left off, depending on if your smoothie feast is done...I have went back and forth on what sort of fast I want to try,So Ive decided I will go the snail approach and start with a 18 day smoothie/juice feast.I will complete it,and I feel confident it will help me to try a 5 day juice only fast sometime in the near future.I never even thought about the fact that I could do a smoothie fast untill I saw this thread.I am still learning, sometimes its the simple things that make the biggest impact, and I so missed this one lol
I really wanna do a juice fast, but Im so tense about doing it,because I am unsure that I am getting all the nutrients that I need and I dont want to tax my body further if I am not.I am dropping a good amount of weight in a short time, want to make sure I am doing this right,I have untill my deathbed to get it right,so I dont need to rush things. It just made sense, smoothies can be very healthful and healing at same time, yet I can feel confident that my sugar levels will not be compromised.I am so excited to start this,I started skin brushing a few nights ago,and hope that and the 18 day smoothie feast will set me even more in the right direction.

Will be posting daily starting this saturday
good thing I copied the 70 smoothies post-such a blessing!!!!!
I havent really left the kale-banana-mixed fruit combo smoothie yet, will be cool to try the savory styles among others

Anna2010

RH, You are very welcome to bear me company in this thread. I intend to go till a few days before Christmas. But I take breaks occasionally, something like one day a week.

IMO, GS may provide more balanced nutrients than juice, as it utilizes the whole produce. But I may be wrong.

What I like most about my GS fast is the time/energy I have saved compared to making/eating solid foods. Of course I also trust it to improve my health. I haven't seen much difference in my health though. But I am quite healthy to start with.

My Day 30
I slipped yesterday. I think the problem was that I felt my GS was tasteless yesterday. I tend to stay with one or two good-tasting smoothie recipes until it becomes tasteless, no doubt because of satiation. I need to put more time/energy in changing my GS ingredients.

woke up drank liter of water

Tied many new things today and a couple fav's
Carrot/apple/banana/kale-Never had carrot or apple in a smoothie, tasted pretty good.
Juiced two sweet potatoes as recomended by a friend,Yummmm.
Made vanillia milkshake-dates/coconut/honey/frozen banana/raw vanilla-have made before LOVE IT...
glass of fresh OJ
dinner I made a big smoothie soup-first atempt at a savory one
Tomatoes/avacado/lemon/kale/dash of tamari---was good I finished it,but was missing something...perhaps garlic-will add that next go round

I bought a huge bunch of turnip reens and beats with the leaves attached,I separated washed them and placed them in baggies. Not sure about the turnip's.but I will see what I can come up with.It was such a good buy I couldnt pass them up
I am hungry, though I think its more the idea of not eating/chewing then actual hunger, but in time Im sure it will ease up.I also plan on fasting up till a few days before CHristmas, then makeing my own Christmas dinner, and one party that I will be attending,I will show up with an avacado and dressing, and get a plain side salad like always :)

Yesterday-1 or more liter water
beet greens/carrots/banana's/frozen strawberries---Was pretty good
large glass juiced OJ
I decided last night to try another soup for dinner/Corn Chowder/was good going down
But I paid for it all the way to about noon today....Will be a long time before I ever eat that again, and No oil or anything will TOUCH it..Makes my stomache roll just thinkin about it :(
Besides thinking now maybe thats not what someone would eat during this type a fast/will stick to greener soups for dinner!!

day 3
I dont think Im drinking/eating enough at all,so I have to work on that, but feeling sick most of the morning and then leaving out of town for most of the day did not help.
Drank a liter of water, and the thought of eating anything made me sicker. Was only sopose to be out of town for 2 hours/ended up being most of the day.around noon I was starved and could feel my sugar dropping,so we had to find something to eat, stoped at a salad bar type thing.Felt alot better afterwards,of course I ate totally raw.Hmm maybe santa will bring me a travel blender .
Got home drank-banana/coconut/dates/honey/cinnamon shake
Tomarrow I will work harder at adding more juices an smoothies during the day,and being prepared for work.By the 18th day I will have it down :)

RH, Good that you are doing your GS fast successfully.

I had some special events going on these past few days and was incredibly busy. So it was simply easier to just eat the raw dishes I had prepared for my husband. I could not put him on hold. I am still coaxing him into eating raw. So I put my own GS on hold. But I will be back on Tuesday.

Day 4
glass of beat juice
my vanillia coconut shake
juiced 5 beets/8 carrots/3 apples for lunch
dinner-ate a cucumber and in an hour or so will have a big green smoothie for dinner

Hello! I think that I would like to join you both, if I could? I will start tomorrow morning with some kind of GS. I was wondering Anna what your savory smoothies are? Also RawHorizons, what is your milkshake, can you give me that recipe, I would like to try it out. Thank you. I will post tomorrow through out the day. I hope this helps me to stay on track, I have been wanting to do one for a while, and I think this is what I need. Hopefully I will be able to do it until Christmas.

Trying, You are very welcome to join the little company here. More people, more encouragement.

My savory GS is basically one apple, one grapefruit, a stick of carrot, a little garlic or green onion, stevia, salt, plus greens and water. That makers for one vitamix of GS. Red bell pepper is also good to add. The type of greens decides the amount I will use. With mild greens like spinach and Romaine, I can fill the vitamix with them.

My Day 32
I was really thinking last night that I was going to quit this GS fast. GS seemed so tasteless to me now. I wondered why at the beginning of this fast I had enjoyed it.
This morning for my GS I used ingredients largely different from what I had used for the past few days. And I liked my GS! So the problem was again satiety with the same kind of ingredients. I will learn my lesson well this time: Change ingredients for GS often!

Anna, thank you!

Day 1
This morning after my workout, I had a banana, strawberry, flax seed, and kale smoothie. I also used raw protein. I always have something like this in the morning since I work out every day.

Then around 10ish, I was hungry again, so I had 2 swiss chard leaves, banana, and strawberries, some ice. I made a lot because I was hungry. I drank one glass, poured another one, and I was putting my laundry in the wash, and my cat took it upon himself to knock over the GS on the carpet! So needless to say I only had one glass. I am thinking about getting another one, I am a little hungry. I may juice though.

Happy to have you aboard TryingtogoRaw,looks like your off to a good start.
The shake recipe isnt a GS but im sure you could throw some in there. But its good for the cravings ;)

Got it from the Book (Rapit Raw)
1 Coconut(meat&water)
1 1/2 frozen banana
4 dates
2 T honey
1/2 vanilla bean or 2 tsp.Extract

Blend until smooth add Ice if desired for thick effect.....

Days 4 & 5
Day 4
works been very busy and my body is sooo tired.
Ive decided to bring juice and a smoothie each day and eat a small salad or avacado, to keep my sugars level.Other then that I do smoothies or juice

yesterday I made a large mason jar of carrots/apples/ginger/beets
then a small mason jar of pure apple juice..These were very good.
Then a large jar of tomatoes/greens/beets/carrots/turnips/garlic/lemon--I also threw in a half of a chillie....Whoa maybe a bit to much ahhh, but I diluted it and made a soup last night from it-pretty good

day 5
1 liter water
more of the tomatoe/greens/beets/carrots GS
small salad...Kale/red pepper/half avacado
fruit smoothie/with kale later tonight

Hopeing this weekend to go the whole day without eating a salad, and just blending, hopefully I will not end up far away from the house, who's to say.Thinking though maybe doing this right now during the busiest time might be making it a bit harder but Im gonna adjust and make do.If anything I am juiceing and blending way more green/fruits/an veggies then before, and that can only help!!!

Day 2

This morning I had a GS with banana, strawberries, and spinach, and coconut oil. It was really yummy! Then for lunch I had a kiwi, banana, and celery smoothie made with coconut water. It was good. also. I will have to say that tomorrow night I will have to not have one for dinner, we are going out for my husband's birthday, so I will probably have a salad for dinner. I do have to admit, it has started to get really cold here where I live, it has been very hard for me to not eat some warm raw oatmeal. This is my first winter going raw,so I am missing my comfort foods. Like oatmeal, and soups.

Trying, Maybe you can add a little ginger to every GS you make. Ginger is very warming. Don't add too much. Maybe start with 1/2 tablespoon for a vitamix of GS and see how you like it.

Hey you 2, hope the holidays are treating you good and the fast/feast is still going strong :)

Been soooo busy haven't had time to post, and then last night and tonight I have a major headache and some dizzy issues.Checked my blood pressure and its very low.Idk what the deal is,hopefully its just some more detox symptoms that will pass, untill then I'm feeling pretty crappy been on the sofa all day.

So I've been drinking alot of juice's,I set out to do GS's and Ive been juicing more then ever lol Sopose if I was trying a Juice fast Id do GS's. I typically drink a pint of water in morning then 45 min later a large GS,lunch I do a big jar of juice and a few hours later another.I eat a salad for dinner. This weekend I diddnt eat much at all,my hunger is nothing like it use to be,I can barley eat half an avacado in one sitting.Though, my fatgirl side, says to "DO IT".The pain afterwards is a learning lesson I am remembering not to eat/drink to much.
Even though I feel bad now Im so happy I did this,it lets me know that It is doable, plus Im dropping so much weight Ive lost 15lbs in the past two weeks.Thats awesome!! I hope Im cleansing right,as far as getting toxins out to make way for the body to repair and feed the cells that need healing. My skin looks BAD,Im broke out all over my body, again though I know this will pass, just sharing.Part of a fast is to cleanse, but it can still be scary when your unsure of whats a detox or something serious.I can deal with just about everything, but this dizzyness can be scary.

Day 10today
Diddnt wake in time to drink water
Vanilla milkshake for breakfast
beat greens/carrots/apples/banana's GS-Would do again
Juice-apples/pears/carrots/beats/cranberries-very good!!
Juice-straight up apples-My fav
Dinner-kale sprout salad

Hello ladies! Sorry I haven't been in here for a while, but I had to stop my fast, because I got a dehydrator for an early Christmas present so I have been wanting to use it. So with that being said, I am going to start up again the first of the year. I figure why not start the year off right. I really want to do it, and I think I will be able to commit to it at the beginning of the year. I will start a thread on here, or if this one is still alive I will join in again! Thanks everyone!

Hi :) I think I'd like to try a smoothie fast starting tomorrow...That will be my first fast! I've only been raw for 21 days but I would love to speed up this detox process! Smoothies alway keep me full and the cravings away. I'm going to take it one day at a time, try one day and see how it feels first to live on green smoothies.. and then i'll set the goal for either 3, 7, 21, or 30 days!

Hope somebody is still using this thread :) It's been 6 days w/ no reply..

Hello EscapeArtist, I am thinking about doing a GS fast starting in the new year. I will keep you posted! You are doing the right thing by taking it one day at a time, I think that is where I mess up, i try to set a number instead of listening to my body! Keep up the great work!

Well I think the hussle an bustle got the best of me lol Right now all I want for Christmas is a full nights sleep.......
I was doing good but then around thursday of last week,I was just so dog tired,I diddnt want to do anything.so I have been super lazy since as far as meking my GS an such. Its like the past 2 weeks have been a blurr.Lost a pound last week, though I always and always will eat raw,I diddnt gs as much Ive made alot of juice though, lots of produce on sale in the morning at a store near here.
Will be back in the beginning of the year as well, and will be cutting my hours at work and looking for a new job I know there are lots without jobs but I work in such a toxic job, chemicals and stress wise,I want to better myself in all areas. Will have more time to detox without the fear of crashing at work.Get some much needed rest and pay my body some love for the first time since I can remember

Thanks Anna...My brother told me after the new year he is going 50% raw, thats monumental if you had heard him pickin on me about going raw..I roped him in with the GS's and hes been hooked since and wants to know more and more :)

welcome Escapeartist-Wishing you good luck on your Gs smoothie journey

Looking foward to seeing all of you at the begining of the Year..Cant think of a better way to kick it off then a smoothie feast :)

Happy New years!

Day 1 --January-2-2011

Plans for the new year is to start every month with a 10 day juice/gs fast.
I read somewhere that you should fast once a month and it made sense. Here till the 11th..
Thinking about doing the 70smoothie recipes, one after the other, try some stuff I havent, and keep the taste buds active. Also gonna find a good juice source and go through that as well, pick up,where I left off at each months fast.

for breakfast so far

Liter water/half Lemon
large Kale/banana/blackberry/rasberry/blueberry smoothie

I'll join you, RH (and a wonderful new year to you, too!).

I'm on day 3 of a modified GS feast. As well as drinking about 2 quarts of GS per day, I'm also allowing myself to eat anything I'd put in a GS. (Nothing fancy, no recipes, just one piece of fruit or veggie at a time, so far about 3 or 4 pieces per day.) I'm also drinking my usual quart of water with MSM first thing in the morning.

I've been sticking to the same GS for a long time:

kale
one or more of: parsley, collards, chard, spinach, nettles, dandelion
oranges
banana
mango or blueberries or pineapple
maca powder
aloe vera pulp (half of the time - a great laxative!)

I have Victoria Boutenko's book 'Green Smoothie Revolution'. The recipes look great. I'm hoping to acquire a taste for savory smoothies. It might help me to think of them as soups instead of smoothies, and warm them up a tiny bit.

I like your plan to start every month with 10 days of fasting. I wish I could do something similar.

Hiya and welcome Bumbleberry, the more the merrier :)

Sounds like your on a good plan right there, depending on your current health or goals, that should be a good detox plan!!
I made a savory smoothie last night,I cant drink a savory smoothie either,I have to put it in a bowl and eat it like soup,or its gross to me lol Understand completely. It was from Victoria's site, one of the best ones Ive had yet.
See you had some AV,I wanna try some aleo vera, does it have a taste?,have a huge plant inside, gonna be brave an hack off a stem and prepare a piece to be chunked one day.

Day2
Liter water&lemon
huge- kale/honeycrisp apple/bananas/blueberries/rasberries/strawberry smoothie.
2 containers of fresh apple juice
cranberries/oranges/bananas/agava smoothie.
savory smoothie-kale/curly parsley/celery/garlic/sun dried tom.s/lemon/avacado----was very very good.I made to much and have some left over for today.Dont like smoothies the next day as they take on another taste but maybe savory ones are diffrent

Day3
Liter water&lemon
cranberry/orange/pineapple/kale smoothie-just realized I diddn't use a banana,and I diddn't miss it ,thats cool
So far my mood has improved,I was in a funk for the past week, bought some b-12 supp and have been doing feast for 3 days and I can feel the diffrence

Thanks for the welcome, RawHorizons :)

The aloe vera gel has a bitter taste on its own, but I don't taste it at all when it's in my GS (really!...try just a little bit at first). I use about one inch of a stalk/leaf in 2 quarts. I read that only the gel should be consumed, because the skin will scrape up the intestinal walls. By the time I read that, I'd consumed quite a bit of skin and didn't notice anything bad. I guess I healed!

I'll have to try your savory smoothie. I tried Victoria's recipe in the past and didn't like it. But I don't think I used dried tomatoes, and I skipped the garlic because I haven't liked it raw in the past. But I'm going to try again. Do you like it cold or...?

Great that you're feeling better! I noticed I felt better on my day 3, too. Not as stiff when I got up, and easier to do yoga.

Today was day 4 for me. I had "the usual" GS. Hmmm...maybe I'll get brave and try your cranberry/orange/pineapple/kale combo. I have a bunch of cranberries that have been lurking in the freezer for a year, now (I decided I didn't like them, but maybe i can change that!).

Before this GS feast, my cacao addiction was out of control. It was all I wanted to eat! I found a brand of cacao that doesn't make me itch, so no incentive to stop eating it. It would be best that I not eat it again. I want to get back to the decluttering project I started last fall, and hope this feast will give me the energy to do that.

Thanks BB for all the info about the aleo vera, will def be tryin that soon

As far as the savory smoothie whitch I have made twice now an am making a big container of tonight for supper and lunch tomorrow.I have not made it warmed yet,but I bet it would be good. It's gross looking, ppl give me the wierd eye when I take it out lol Also when I make it I make it VERY thick, and Victorias recipe called for a Jalepeno pepper/but I choose Garlic>so you could do either.I also added a T of herbs de providence. For me the savory smoothie was great the next day,I was surprised and pleased!!

Ive aten so many things now that in the past I wasnt crazy about, but now I crave these things.Maybe the same will true for your cacao addiction, the more greens an fruits you fuel your body with, the less you will need/ want it.Hope all is well and your enjoying your GS's :)

Day 4
water-lemon
savory smoothie
cranberry-orange-banana smoothie
coconut/kale/pineapple/dates/honey smoothie. Wasn't crazy about the coconut and kale tatse
Did eat a raw salad for dinner

Day5
no time for water overselept
coconut water & meat/banana/honey/dates smoothie
Salad again/because I diddnt prepare night before/Going to work harder on that
savory smoothie for dinner-gettin addicted to these!!!

Last week I gained 2lbs whitch is normal ,every 3 weeks I do great and then week 4 I gain a small amount or maintain.(woman thang) So Im always nervous that this weight loss, feel good streak is gonna stop any minute now.Tonight at my meeeting i dropped another 6.2lbs,I swear no-one could chissle the smile off my face, and Im feeling so entergetic right now.I am continually amazed at the power of fruits & Vegetables. Its such a simple concept and it works!!

Liter Lemon water
coconut water& meat/dates/cinn./nutmeg/banana's/vanilla extract smoothie

awhole avavcado -i forgot to eat and my sugar was starting to fall, ate a avacado and went to store for some stuff I ran out of..Preperation preperation preperation AHHhhhhhhhh.Wonder if raw food heals thickheadedness?!.

2 raw spring rolls/chilli sauce

a large savory smoothie/this time I tried it with lime, was good but in this combo I liked the lemon more.Think next time I will use a large bunch of cilantro in place of parsley and use lime..Mmmm should be good

Day 7

Liter Lemon water

rest of savory smoothie/eating it as I type

some sorta fruit greens smoothie later

Moms comming over, bringing her blender so I can show her how to make smoothies. So I will get lots of greens and goodies tonight.

Thinking, just thinking about doing this for the rest of the month, have to see how things go.It sure easier then comming up with what am I gonna eat tonight, just need to try more and more recipes, have tendencies to find one I like and stick it out till I start to get tired of it instead of switchin it up,another thing for me to work on.

I'd like to journey here with you. I have been on the main fasting thread, and hope to continue as long as it is there. But I am experimenting a lot, finding my balances and tolerance points with intermittent fasting and doing smoothies.

Tomorrow, I'm starting a smoothie-cleanse regimen. My aged body cannot presently handle straight fruit-vegetable smoothies. My energy plummets severely with the slower-moving purge of the smoothies. With juice fasts, there's no fiber there to work long in the system, so it pretty much passes right through. I'd like to get to the place where I can tolerate strictly FV smoothies by acclimating my body slowly. That will mean nuts, sunflower seeds and such, gradually transitioning to strict hi-water-content only. Blessings to all.

Been thinking about posting here for the past week, but there's been more to do than I have time for!

ER - I hope you're finding some GSs you can tolerate. I can't imagine not being able to drink them, at this point!

LL - Ya, day 3 seems to be the turnaround day of starting to feel better. I love how i feel on a GS feast.

RH - Yay for your 9 days! Wow, that's sad that organic greens have been scarce where you live! But maybe good if more people are wanting them, if the supply catches up. I've read that it's better to eat nonorganic greens that none at all. Do you have a place where you could grow them? They're easy to grow. All of the greens I eat come from my garden (at a community garden) and the park (wild greens) between about March/April and October/November. You could grow them year round where you live.

My GS feast lasted till the evening of day 13. I haven't been eating anything bad (or too much) since then. I've been drinking 2 quarts a day of GS (packed with lots of greens) almost every day for about the past 3 years, so ending the GS feast just meant adding some foods. I'm aiming to stay away from cacao (raw or cooked).

My life is out of balance in ways other that my diet, which I think sometimes makes it hard to stay away from cacao. Getting back to my decluttering and starting to exercise would help, and I think I'm closer to doing those. Maybe I'll need to go back to GS feasting to actually do them!

RH - I forgot to say that i tried your savory smoothie, with a few alterations. I substituted a tiny pinch of garlic powder for the garlic, added a small amount of apple (blended) as well as some thinly sliced (unblended) white onion and carrots. The apple really helped mellow it out, and the sweetness of the carrot and tang of the onion helped alot, too. I liked it enough to eat almost the whole quart, but decided by the end that I'd rather use herbes de province in Italian dishes instead of smoothies. I saved some to taste the next day...still didn't like it enough to make it again.

The next savory smoothie I'm going to try will be flavoured with cilantro, mustard seeds (ground up), cumin, and thin slices of sweet onion and maybe carrot (unblended).

Happy smoothie-ing! GSs are great! :)

Hey all,

I'm doing a gentle 3 day GS fast as of today. Going well so far, it's midday and I've just made my batch of GS for lunch and the afternoon. I'm at work so I've brought my travel blender in to work and had some REALLY odd looks. Meh.

I love my travel blender! :)

Hello everyone:)

I would like to join only I am starting out with a small goal of 1 green smoothie a day, 2 if I would like.

I am not raw, no where near close, and I'm not ready to jump into a full change so I decided it's better to start small then start no where at all. I was pregnant but lost it a week ago. I need to get my health under control. I would like to wait for children but I am engaged and I am not having fun with all the comments about your weight people feel entitled to make about the dress you want.

So I would like to have 1 green smoothie a day, every day until my wedding. I may make that more as I go along, but this is not to pressure myself but have relief. Green smoothies help my stress levels and also they will help me lose some weight and feel good from the inside out.

I will also be starting to workout now that I have healed from my miscarriage.

So here I raise a glass to myself, in honor of being good and kind to myself and starting down a new journey of health. :D

Well right now I am enjoying a 600ml; kale, banana, blueberry/strawberry/blackberry/cherry(frozen bag of fruit) smoothie.

Yum! I can hardly wait until fruit starts coming more into season and I can use more than just frozen fruit cuz it's not nearly as yummy as fresh.

Firicia

Well yesterday I ended up having 2 big green smoothies.

Today I only had 1; it was blueberry, raspberry, banana, kale

I haven't been on this thread for quite awhile.

Klomasius - I hope your 3 day GS fast went well. People who think GSs are odd don't know what they're missing.

Firicia - So sorry to read about your miscarriage ! Adding GSs everyday is not a small step. Plus it's easier (to me, anyway) than figuring out what to make with those greens. Your smoothies sound yummy !

Today's the 12th day since I ended my GS feast (which was 12 days long). I'm thinking about doing GS feasts half of the time, alternating between consuming only GSs (plus eating anything I'd put in a GS) and eating all or mostly raw. The number of days I can eat more things will be the same as the number of days of my last GS feast. Which means tomorrow I'm back to GS feasting.

I was loving how I was feeling by the end of my last feast. My body was more flexible. And my mind clearer. Food tasted so good when I started eating more. That all sounds like alot of good reasons to do regular GS feasting !

My eating has been moderate. As of last Friday, I'd maintained the 7 pound weight loss (weighed myself at my doctor's office). These past two days I've been eating more, though. I want to lose about 30 more pounds to get to my ideal weight.

But what's foremost right now is that I want to 1) start exercising and 2) clutter clean my place. The decluttering comes first. My place is better than it used to be, but the clutter is seriously interfering with everything I want to do. I'm hoping that being on a GS feast will help me get it started.
