I've read a lot about raw food in the last year or so, and have decided to do it! I was trapped in a circle of eating and smoking and knew I had to break the chain somewhere. I took 3 days and went through the painful caffeine withdrawal headaches and dairy cravings. I'm glad that's over and I'll never go back to caffeine or dairy again! Afterwards, I decided to try a juice fast. I've been raw for 2 days now.

My problem? My gums are incredibly sore today and I'm deathly afraid of losing my teeth! It's only my bottom gums that are sore. I'm glad to be away from my caffeine addiction and all the other junk I used to eat, BUT, why now is this gum problem happening? I do understand that it could be a symptom of detox. My ultimate 2 questions are: 1. Has anyone here experienced this after being raw for only two days? 2. Do you know of a way that I can continue raw and not lose my teeth? (Kinda hard to eat anything, if I don't have teeth.)

Some other info: My gums were not sore before I started raw and my teeth are in relatively good shape. My juices consist of mostly vegie and some fruits. I felt my mouth throbbing earlier today, but, paid no attention to it as lots of painful things have been happening to me body since I started raw eating. I really took notice when trying to eat a ripe mango and my bottom gums were to sore to continue. Yes, I used the search function, but, nothing seemed relevant and most of the threads related to gums didn't have any actual advice besides oil pulling. I did read about oil pulling and I'll try that tomorrow.

A million thank yous to anyone that can help me keep my teeth! What would you do to avoid losing your teeth? Thanks for putting up with my possible paranoia. :)

The first thing is that you can be sure that it is not a lack of something because that would not show up this soon.
I developed a problem with my gums last November and a lot of my teeth began to loosen. I went to the dentist as I was particularly worried about the one on the end as it was almost gone. I asked him to save it and he replied that it was not possible and it would be gone by mid January.
I started oil pulling and I have not lost a tooth and they are now firmly fixed in my mouth and once again I can chew what I like.
I am just telling you this to reassure you.

Meadow, just want to welcome you to the RFT forum. So glad that you have chosen a healthier lifestyle for yourself. I don't have advise for your teeth and gum issue but I have read about and used oil pulling before and it is an awesome thing. Sport gave some good advice.

I'm going to get oil today. I awoke and my gums are not nearly as sore as they were last night. Still, it scared me and I want to make sure it doesn't happen again. Thanks for your replies.

Welcome TM!

As to your concerns about the sore gums - Since you are still relatively new to raw, and have had healthy teeth/gums up until now, I'm more inclined to think that the cause for the mouth soreness may in fact be caused by ingesting too many acidic fruits. No?
