Hey everyone! I began to become health conscious around a year ago when I had a difficult breakup with my fiance. I had really bad depression and self esteem issues.
At that time I found Naturalnews.com and was blown away with all of the information. That was the start of my journey to better health. I have been reading every thing about nutrition that I can get my hands on and now I am planning on pursuing a nutrition degree in school.
I was eating healthy before i found out about the raw diet. No dairy, no fried foods, I would occasionally eat fish, no bleached flours etc. I found the Raw Food Detox Diet by Natalia Rose one day at the bookstore and thats how I found out about a raw diet.
Im on day 4 now of 100% raw! its been a fun challenge learning how to uncook! So far I feel pretty good but today I did wake up unusually tired. Im trying a 30 day challenge.
I have a few questions though. How important is food combining? I have been following it pretty strictly but its a pain in the butt:p. Im keeping my fat low with lots of fruits in the morning but at night i get a terrible sweet tooth thats really hard to resist. I have been enjoying raw cookie dough lol. Whats the best way to curb a sweet tooth? Also I really enjoy mountain biking and i ride frequently. Sometimes i can burn more than 1500 calories at a time so whats the best way to get all these calories back? I can only stuff my stomach so full!:D
Thanks in advance for the replies. Im really excited to be a new member on the boards and cant wait to see where this new journey in health takes me.

Welcome to the site. Dates help me with my sweet tooth. some times a tsp of raw honey also helps. food combining is not as important to some (including me) than others. listen and feel what your body is telling you, if you eat some things and you get sick or don't feel well - that combination was not good. good luck

Welcome :)
Perhaps juicing will help with getting all the calories ya need in,without having to chew ....
This is just my opinion as I am a new rawbie, but Nutbutter and agava has helped alot with my sweet tooth and raw chocolate of course yummm.
I know agava isnt 100% raw but I think when your going from cookie dough to agava, thats a major transition and down the road you can use less and less until you only depend on fruits to feed your sweet tooth fix
Good Luck and grats on going Raw!!

Welcome. Yeah I'm a little concerned about the calories too. Then again I wonder if most humans are a little large by default because of the standard american diet? Maybe most of us are really naturually smaller versions of ourselves? Raw cookie dough? that cant be good lol.
I am a cyclist too, so this should be a real challenge. Hang in there!

Hi Chris - well done to make the step over to health! We also recently made the transition to 100% raw and its been a month and two weeks today! We have also experienced a serious flagging of energy and flu-like detox symptoms but we understand that this is part of the process your body initiates when it gets the chance to start cleaning out toxins that have been accumulated and will pass once the job is done. We have been reading Susan Schenk's 'The Live Food Factor' which covers the transitioning and healing crises in depth. Her advice is to give the body the rest it demands rather than to try to force it to do what you want it to do. During the initial phase be prepared to REST REST REST!
We are pretty sure that your 'sweet tooth' is caused by a lack of magnesium and can be alleviated by supplying your body with a lot of fresh leafy greens. Have you read or heard of Victoria Boutenko's 'Green for Life'? In it she recommends making smoothies using lots of fresh green leaves combined with fruit and some nuts/seeds. You will need a powerful blender to get the nutrients out of the leaves but this combo will definitely make a HUGE difference to your cravings for sweet. I enjoy a small sweet treat occasionally in the form of sesame paste (tahini) mixed with some raw honey and touch of raw cocao powder. Mixed well it becomes what the Israelis call 'Halva' and is delicious and nutritious.
We have also found that as the body adjusts and cleans up we are needing to eat less and still feel satisfied.
Very exciting to hear your story - we wish you all the best!
