Apparently my body reacts to it like it does to cooked foods. My lips get chapped, my tummy feels weird and bubbly, I can't quite get my Raw Hum on and my nose is slightly stuffed.
I guess it's good that the body is so adamant that I need to stay away from putting dead things inside me, but I'm still sort of bummed.
Maybe I could save the rest of the package for making raw chips?

I know that nutritional yeast is controversial...because of the glutamate thing...some think it does have a type of natural MSG, while others don't....so I guess now you don't have to decide. Your decision is made for you...LOL

Do you have any other MSG-type reactions?

Well, my weight loss ground to a halt and I've been pretty bloated. Haven't checked yet, but I might have put on a few pounds in the week I used the stuff. Supposedly the yeast I bought only had dried inactive yeast in it, but eh.. unless it looks like food, there's no trusting in these things. ;)
LOL, yeah, raw does make life easier in that you don't have to wonder if something is good for you or not: your body WILL let you know. :D

The reason I asked about any type of glutamate sensitivity is because that might? help answer the controversy---Again, just curious.

I like nutritional yeast. Don't eat a lot of it, but don't want to stop using it in some recipes, so am curious to know.....

Hi MaryKay!! :)

I don't do well with nutritional yeast... it doesn't taste like real food to me anymore. The reason it makes those kale chips taste like Doritos (you know, the cheesy flavored ones that all call for NY)... is because they taste like the crap in Doritos.

That's just me. I'm pretty sensitive to things that just don't taste like they're from the earth...

:eek::D

@Mary Kay: Could the yeast take on the properties of whatever it was grown on? The package doesn't list what the yeast was grown on, unfortunately.
Or it just might be a personal aversion. Lord knows I haven't used regular yeast either for a good two or three years now, maybe longer than that. So It might realy be totally good to use for some people, but not ok for me. :)

@Eva: yeah, I wasn't blown away by the taste either, but I wanted to try it on for the nutritional properties alone. Though I have no idea how nutritious it actually is since it's been pasteurized. I got my Raw Hum back pretty much within a day of not using the stuff.

:) I'm gonna gander the nutritional value is a net loss if you feel better after NOT eating it! ;)
