Hi,
I am new to raw foods. I am slightly challenged because fruits and veggies on this island are either unavailable or really expensive, since everything has to be shipped in. I am hoping to start with smoothies and salads and try to add more and more raw from there. I hope to get some affordable meal ideas here and inspiration. Need to lose at least 40 lbs too.
Nice to be here!

Hello! I'm from Nassau also!
When I started I went broke trying to buy everything! But as a learning experience I buy my greens organic (if they don't look too "ratty looking"!) or I just use what looks the best! Where do you buy your fruits and veggies from? Solomon's or Super Value Sandyport usually have the best looking produce! Start small (I'm still learning this!) get the basic fruits and veggies, mostly seeds, some nuts all raw. Learn 2 to 3 of the best basic recipes for smoothies, salad dressings, soups, something as a raw entree and you should be good to go. I have some resources if you need more support. Keep reviewing the forum here and do your research on line. The key is finding what works best for you. Since starting I've lost weight, not as much as I'd like, but I'm loosing not gaining so that's good. Keep at it, after 2yrs, I'm still learning!

Hello to you, ltcartwright! I had no idea there was raw foodie in Nassau.
I shop at Super Value. I will try Sandyport and I never even thought of Solomon's-terrific! I am tying to be a sponge and soak up what I can and experiment too. Thanks for the tips! Good to 'meet' you.

Yeah, Super Value seems to be better with produce, I do go to The Organic Store (Montgomery off Palmdale) and Healthy Living health food stores (they have 2 locations East Street and can't remember the other street name, but it's called "the 7th Day Adventist" store as reference :P), but only if I have a few extra bucks to spare. Health food is really too, too expensive here. So I'm trying to concentrate on more fruits and veggies. I'm not totally "Raw" as yet, but the goal is to be successfully Raw for life. My mini goals, as I continue this journey is to take it one meal at a time, as simple as possible, don't sweat the "off" days and just pick back up if I "fall off".
If you want to send me a private message, you can check my profile. Put "Raw Food Talk Friend" in the subject also so that I'll know its not spam. I've got lots of research info that you may be interested in....let me know. Don't despair if I don't reply quickly, I usually don't check my mail everyday, but I will get it and answer back AQAP! :D
