Any recipe suggestions for a friend who's coming to dinner? He grew up eating very English meat-and-two-veg meals. These days he rarely eats meat but is not adventurous in terms of ingredients and doesn't really like to try new things--typical meal for him is a marmite sandwich with a mini salad or veg curry.
I know he'll like the raw choc dessert I've got planned but not sure what to offer in terms of actual dinner.

How about a young coconut/curry soup?
When I feel the need for something meaty, I marinate a de-feathered, sliced portobella mushroom in olive oil flavored with nama shoyu (or tamari), cumin, and thyme.
Both together with a salad and your dessert would be a hardy meal. :)
If either or both of those sound good, I will post the recipes for you tomorrow. Both are simple with only a few ingredients. :)

Thanks, the coconut curry soup is a good suggestion but we can't get decent young coconuts here. I think I'm going to make some hearty corn curry soup and a salad.

English cucumbers! :D j/k. I don't even know if those are from England! However, I do know the pulp makes an excellent filling for a certain portabella mushroom recipe outlined above *COUGHCOUGH* :)

Potato salad from Alissa Cohen recipes book. Most everyone that eat cook food, love that. You can use cucumber instead of the Jicama (Not sure the spelling) she asks for if you don't have anything.
