I was just wondering, in light of the many "raw leaders" that are veering from all raw, if Alissa is still 100%. It would make me feel good to know that she is, as it is still a goal I strive to attain and I consider her to be a picture of health.

Why are these raw leaders veering from 100% raw now?

a variety of reasons, but there seems to be a rash of it. Not EVERYONE, though. It's easy to find if you google. Don't want to detract from the purpose of this site, just seeking inspiration from Alissa's path.

It's all about individual choices. I too feel much better all raw, not that anyone cares, lol, BUT I also choose to do very clean non-raw when the situation calls for it with little or no distress, either to my psyche or my stomache. I does however interfere with weightloss if that is your motivation. I rarely gain after a nonraw event, but my ongoing weightloss is stopped for a time. Again, it is something I'm willing to tolerate.

Thanks so much, Alissa! It's good to know. You certainly don't look like you are suffering from deficiencies!

I am glad to hear Alissa is still 100%. I think a lot of raw folks are not 100% because they have only been doing it a few years. Some come out with books after only doing it less than 5 years.
I love Alissa's site and how she knows what she is talking about. I always hope people looking at raw for the first time will find this site and not one of the other sites that really do not know what they are talking about.

From everything I've heard about, it seems all of them were doing the raw diet incorrectly. You don't just become raw and stick to one way of being raw for the rest of your life. Nor do you restrict yourself in certain areas that can cause health issues such as consuming too low amount of calories. You learn to modify your diet over the years until you find the best plan for you. If one way doesn't work, another will.

And it's good to hear you're still raw Alissa ~ not that I'm surprised ~ you are SUCH an inspiration!

Thanks Alissa for answering this, appreciated. :)

In the first wave of a movement (and today's raw 'gurus' really are the first true wave, even though there were pioneers before them) you will get this sort of thing, people becoming 'devoted' to raw then going off it. It's like a lot of people go through stages in their religious beliefs, becoming devoted to Buddhism or some other religion for years, then gradually the passion fades and it was simply just a very long phase.

It's not a bad thing, just a part of an individual's evolution. We just have to remember that our own evolution should not deliberately mirror anyone else's, it's should be our own unique path.

I am glad to hear from Alissa as well, although I would've not been bothered if she wasn't 100% anymore or most/all of the time.
She opened the door for me to see the path for myself and for that I am to her forever grateful.
We all do what works best for us, whether that is hardcore 100% raw no diversions or 80-90% (or what have you) and eat what I want when the occasion comes up..

Alissa, you are my guiding light in this adventure of mine..
..as well as many of you, you friends onboard this forum with me.

Thank you.

Alissa is particularly interesting to me because she has done it for so long. Thanks again, Alissa.

There used to be (and probably still are) raw food "leaders" who are lying about what they eat and how healthy they are. And I'm not saying that Alissa is one of them, I'm just saying that a lot of those people feel that they need to be the perfect example. After all, they have given many lectures and written lots of book propagating their perfect diet and to publicly admit that they aren't doing it 100% would perhaps question their authority.

But I personally love that so many people have started telling the truth about what they are doing and where they have failed, because there's so much to learn from that. It doesn't mean that 100% raw vegan can't be done, it just means that these people have had issues or chosen a different path for other reasons.
The raw food diet in this day and age is after all still at an experimental stage, and there are many pitfalls.

Again, I'm not saying that Alissa is not being honest. And it's very good to hear from her!
