Happy Autumn! always been my favorite season.

I try to eat seasonally as much as possible, although I'd have to admit bananas are quite a staple in my diet. So, in the fall I'm eating a lot of apples, for example. I mean, A LOT!!

What else is a seasonal crop for fall, I'm wondering. persimmons for one- who doesn't love persimmons!?!

As the temperatures cool, I'll be looking at the excalibur more and more, thinking of nuts, kale chips, flax crackers, etc. Stuff that I don't get around to in the summer time with the bounty of tender summer produce.

Part of reason I think about stuff like this and want to get ideas from my raw friends is that I want to minimize my impact on this earth for the better. For example, I love mangoes and will eat them in the middle of the winter in spite of being imported thousands of miles away, but that's the sort of thing I'm going to minimize.

I'm almost embarrassed to admit this, but living in Oregon I feel almost spoiled with access to the beautiful organic farms out my way. I vote support local farmers as much as possible!

A sincere love and peace to you coming from Portland Oregon

i like eating as seasonal as possible. lots of broccoli, grapes, apples, figs, and pears right now. living in Florida i love winter time because there are citrus stands everywhere.

I noticed this year that I was completely obsessed with cherries all summer long. last year it was watermelon. this year i wasnt so interested in the watermelon. funny how our bodies work.

You're supposed to eat seasonal. That's how animals eat. If it doesn't grow in your season, that probably means it's unnaturally grown, using pesticides, or potentially hydroponic (without minerals.)

I have a farm share here on the island... when I was traveling I couldn't take advantage of that... but now that I'm here for a bit... it's so Wonderful!

I get to PICK the food, it's soooo fresh and tasty.

When it was time for strawberries, I went strawberry picking. It was like magic, really. I would put the strawberries straight from the vine to my mouth. I hardly ever made it home with any.

It's about time that I'll be making more soups... stews really... and will pull out the D a bit more.

But we might end up off to Brazil for a bit to take advantage of their summer. Love love love their summer. It's like cheating to leave here and go there... and take off the jackets and scarves and get fresh avocados and pineapples and bananas.

Oh dear, I'm happily rambling. :)

One little note... although they are from far away... and I get that... even when in New England during the winter, I do enjoy bananas in my green smoothies. They just do so much for the texture that it's the one food I have year round. It is what it is... I tried for a time to not eat them and found my body really wanted them (long story).

Ah, perfect timing to think of this. I get to go pick up my farm share this afternoon!!

:):D

This is a huge issue to approach so simplistically. It could easily be argued that if someone ate only what was seasonal and local it wouldn't leave enough to eat for a strict raw foodist if you're in a northern environment.

yeah I'm not over here much but then I come back and really like the focus on the food and not arguing over stuff like some other websites...........

Agreed! I like to raise up and to be raised up... arguing is not my cup of tea for SURE... don't know the websites you're talking about... but for all the censorship that happens here... I do love that the focus stays where it belongs.

What would you be missing? Every other animal forages and eats seasonally. That is just how nature works! You are supposed to eat seasonally.

No other animal grows their food, or processes it. From the Tree to Me is a good idea!

You've obviously never lived in the north central plains in the winter. I guarantee if I had had to forage for food, I would have been on a pretty severe fast.

It's a lovely notion with a lot of merit, but just not feasible in all climes.

I am fasting right now, but when I am not fasting I admit I do not eat seasonally in the winter. I know it is not great but I eat lots of tropical fruit in the winter because I love it. In summer I do eat locally but in winter there is not much local food. If I lived in Hawaii I would always eat locally.
