Dunno if it's edible or not, seems to be, though sites disagree on whether you should eat it raw! Should I try..? Aww, screw it, my body's a lab! Time to experiment. I'll try a small piece first! Some people have allergies.

If it were me, I wouldn't eat it till I knew for sure that the mushroom is correctly identified and would find out first if it was edible or not for sure!

You're worth more than gold so please please please pretty pleeeeease check it out thoroughly for 100% identification and edibility before eating it!!! :)

be careful! mushrooms can mimic one another, or be poisonous at different growth stages. ie.. a young amanita (poisonous) can often be mistaken for a puffball which is edible. I used to pick mushrooms and try to preserve them to make caps for my fairies... most of the time after a couple of days inside, the numerous fly larvae would hatch and the whole thing would be covered in maggots, so, not something I would want to eat lol.

Ate a small piece. Nope, not dead! The people at shroomery verified it's probably a brunneum, though you're right, it is close to other species! Didn't know about the growth stages thing..

It is pretty tasty, gonna add some to my butternut squash soup cubed later!

If you don't know about mushrooms, I would advise not even touching any that you come across in the wild. Some mushrooms are so highly toxic that just touching it, and then eating something else or touching your face can kill you.
