Hey all,

I've been reading how you can take the greenery at the top of your pineapple, root it, and grow as a house plant and in a year-3 you can grow a pineapple!

Has anyone done this? I love pineapples! But they can be so pricey out of season.

I'm trying to root my first attempt now - I'll let you know in 3 years if I am successful~:)

LOL. I have a friend who does root the tops. There is a beautiful fruit ready to go pretty soon so yes it does work. Not really practical for ongoing production without a quite a bit of space, though. And you need to be in warm area of the country... this one is in SWFL.

..3 years before you get your pineapple? I think more than having the pineapple, you'll get fulfillment.

I tried this before but the fruit didn't survive..:p. I'm in tropical country so having pineapple anytime is not a problem.

I have tried this, it does work, however the pineapple that I grew was very small.

I've gotten pineapples. A few of them have made it to my mouth. Usually the local critters get to them first. It usually takes 18 months to get a pineapple. They need full sun and a regular plant will get 3-4 feet tall and about as wide. If you do grow them, make sure you water them from the top. Leaves and all. They need water to sit in the leaves to drink. The root just hold the plant in the soil. Soil has to be water as usual for any regular plant.

I'll be growing them as house plants, so we'll see what happens!
