View Full Version : What can I eat/drink when craving coffee?

I gave up coffee about 1.5 months ago. I'll admit, I miss it at times. I went 100% raw but found I was very cold all the time. Got some nice bunny slippers to wear around the house and starting drinking organic sencha mint tea which has helped so much. Still 95% raw, at times I slip but I also do not have a food processor or dehydrator yet so it's been tough to stay on course. I have a list of recipes to try once I get those appliances (next week, yeah!!). Anyway, Someone once recommended something, I think it was maca powder?? to throw into a smoothie to get that coffee lift though ... is this accurate? I am just looking for something to see me through a coffee craving. It's the taste I am missing not the caffeine.

Thanks!!

Michele

This is more of an aside then some direct advice, but try drinking a lot of water ( a lot!) in the morning and you'd be surprized at what a difference it makes throughout the rest of your day to be properly hydrated from the get-go.

I like to make a maca-ccino with almond mylk, maca powder, cacao powder, stevia, and I think a bit of cinnamon and nutmeg. I can't remember the exact measurements, but they're all within the teaspoon range--perhaps a teaspoon or two of the powders and an 1/8 or 1/4 teaspoon of the spices. I served it to my veg friend and her junk food/meat-eating boyfriend and they really liked it.

This is not raw, but it's the next best thing to that coffee flavor. It's called "Dandy Blend." It is lightly roasted (under 250 deg F) to keep the acrylamides low and contains dendelion root, chicory, beets.....

I love it mixed with almond milk, cocnut milk etc. Makes me feel like I'm "cheating." LOL

Sorry no time to look up a link, but I'll bet you could get a sample. Heck, I'll send you a sample if you send me your address.

I am not profiting from this, but I am from Cleveland, Ohio, which is where the guy who originated this is from, so I've met him when he gave a wld edible foraging lesson!

It tastes similar to Kafree (I think how it's spelled), but I trust it more because the guy actually knows about acrylamides and says it's low-temp roasted. Don't know if the other companies do this.

What I don't like about it, is it's made overseas. I still get it anyway though.

HTH,

Mary Kay

Green smoothies, I've heard a lot of people say these stave off cravings and they helped me get off coffee. :)

Green tea has helped me to gracefully step away from coffee.

This is the ONLY thing that helps me...if i start my day with a liter of water before anything else, I find I don't want coffee.

Now, if hubby is enjoying a cup, I do have a chicory blend I enjoy but it's not raw....so for me, water before all else is best.

If it's just flavor, there's many raw coffee flavored recipes.

Here's one I created by accident:

Sun Warrior Coffee
Sun Warrior Protein Powder Natural
Cacao
Agave
Water
If you don't have Sun Warrior, a similar type powder can work.

Coffee
2 cups Almond milk
1 tsp Vanilla extract or ½ bean
3 tsp Agave
Dash Cinnamon
Dash Nutmeg
Dash Salt
Blend.

I stopped drinking coffee a couple months ago and I find that I am so thirsty in the morning. I need to take your advice Stina and carry my water around as I get ready for work.

Just a thought... Warm lemon water is an excellent way to start the day and show your liver a little love!

Get this:

What you're missing is a Life Philosophy, Not Coffee! What I gather from your message suggests the ritual may be more important to you than the buzz, which usually leaves people after tolerance develops. Fuzzy bunny slippers not included! :D
