I really don't know what it is, but see it in quite a few recipes. Also have seen tamari? Can someone enlighten me on these two and what would be some good sbstitutions for them? Thanks!

tamari is cooked and nama shoyu is not. you can usually get it in a health food store.
you can sub w braggs amino acids as that may be easier to source

Coconut Aminos made by Coconut Secret. It is raw, wheat-free and soy-free.
Wheat-Free Tamari is not raw, but still a good choice for flavor.
Nama Shoyu contains both wheat and soy.
All are similiar to soy sauce.
Miso is good, but is not a substitue for any of the above.

I'd say substitute with Braggs--I use it on everything, and it's strong so you barely need any. It's cheap too, and lasts forever. Really good in guacamole :)

I second the Coconut Aminos as a substitute.

Soy sauce is not raw but it is the obvious substitute for Nama Shomu or Braggs. I've never had Braggs myself, but I am sure it is tasty!
