View Full Version : October fasters... 'Fellowship of the Fasters' unite!

Here's are the 'rules' of this thread:
Please do not discuss specific food. Feel free to share "My hubby was eating and it was hard for me." Please don't share "My hubby was eating X, Y and Z..."
The reason we do this is so no one ends up getting a craving from a fasting thread. As a faster we can choose to click on a thread which discusses food but we need the safety within this thread to know food is not discussed. Juices are shared, M/C is shared, green smoothie recipes are shared... but not 'chewable' food.
Here's my commitment:
I'm here to fast. I'm not here to eat. I will fast until I choose to stop but I will NOT stop my fast on a bad day, at night or today. I can choose to break my fast next week in the morning but not today.
I'm here to gain health.
I'm here to gift my body the time and energy to bring my body to a state of health.
I'm here to release - whatever needs to be released. Physical, emotional, conscious or unconscious things... I'm here to release them all.
I'm here to bring a greater depth to my spirituality.
I'm here to support myself and others.
I'm on Day 112 and happy to continue fasting.

This is the "Fellowship of the Fasters" - unlike the LOTRs fellowship of nine, we are a fellowship of many. We welcome newcomers daily and embrace everyone no matter what they are fasting on or their personal beliefs.
Yes you can prefer green juices to fruit. Yes you can use agave instead of maple syrup or raw honey. Yes you can juice in your Vita-Mix and use a nut mylk bag to extract your juices.
We don't care how you fast... we want to support you... and in turn, we ourselves get supported... so please... join us!!!
Come on everyone.. join in the fun and grab your Elf, Dwarf, Hobbit or Human names for our "Fellowship of the Fasters"... you just make them up, it isn't from the book/movie. (if you want to participate) and put it in your signature line!

Ah now that I got the introductions out of the way... let's talk about fasting.
Does everyone want to share their commitments (if they have any) and what day they are on?
As you already know from my post above... I'm on day 112 and my original goal was eleventy-one days... and now my goal is 222 days. I can't even imagine stopping anytime soon so... until my body wants me to stop... I'll just keep on keepin' on.
My watermelon juice seems to be really upsetting my body. Not only do I get a tummy ache but then my bowels are evacuating... which although it's a good thing... it's not a comfy way of doing it.
My P&B shake seems to help settle things though which is good. I just need to find a balance for my body right now. It seems to be a little gurgly and funky with it's quirkiness of this portion of my fast.
I've also added a daily clay bath for detox to my path at this time. I'm really enjoying that!

Well I'm on board for at least this first weekend of the month. I worked at preparing for it yesterday and will fast on juices mostly but may have to bend my own rules in regard to chewing some fruit or even having some storebought juices, since I'm without blender or juicer. I'll not mention the items consumed, and will stick to the benefits realized instead. I can still do water. I hope to fast each weekend through the month of October. Well, next weekend may get shifted a couple days beyond to a tuesday/wednesday fast as we will be celebrating the tenth and eleventh.
For this month of two day fasts, I am trying to keep in mind of gentling into and out of them with one day of preparation on each end.

I can't believe its another month already. I am getting so excited to start my next fast. I will be starting on Tuesday and I am really wanting to do a 40 day fast, but I will take each day as it comes. I'm very excited though to do it and very scared at the same time (I have food issues and need to overcome them).
I am fasting to draw closer to my God. To feel His presence in my life and to hear His voice more clearly!!
I am fasting to gain more healing in my body. I still have a long way to go to get healing in my body, but I will not stop doing what I can to help her.
I am fasting because I really just love the way my body feels when I'm fasting.
I am fasting because I want to learn to feed my body what it needs instead of what my appetite wants.
So I went shopping today for the week and bought lots of yummy things to juice. My husband is joining me in this fast again. So that is really fun!!
Tonight we are watching LOTR .... the 2nd one. My kiddos are soooooo excited (and so am I :cool:).

hi!
I've missed fasting over the last few months, but I'm feeling really strong with my on the road rawness and would like to include some fasts this month.
They will be short, as I'm walking many miles a day, and do not have any way to juice things, so I will be doing water fasts, lemon/lime water fasts, and orange juice fasts (this will be done by sucking the juice out of oranges!).
I am SO excited, as my road partner is finally committing himself to raw (after many divergences leaving him feeling guilty/sick/heavy/dull), we are both growing in brightness and lightness and my mind and heart are finally calm and peaceful. I am conquering all of the little tremors that used to rob me of self confidence.
My Reasons for Fasting:
- I consider fasting an essential part to one's self-maintenance
- I want to further cleanse my body of past physical and emotional toxins
- In order for me to be a bright light for others, I need to do what I can to be a pure as possible
- I desire the strength and clarity one does gain from frequent fasting.
Monday October 4th, I begin fasting. depending on how I feel, it could last for 1 day to a whole month.
Right now, I am only consuming fruit and some seeds.
Veggies have not been sitting well with me lately (I fee like veggies should be eaten as mono meals and chewed one gazillion times before swallowing??)
ah, good luck everyone... I am right here with all of you. :)

Hi everyone! It's good to be here!!! :D
I'll be doing my one day fast tomorrow! This week has gone by fast that I was like, "Whoa, it's time to fast again!!!" So I went to the market and stocked up enough to fast for tomorrow. I'm really loving the mint in my juices that I had last week, so got some for tomorrow.
After my one day fast last week, emotional detox!!! I was the biggest crybaby the day after!! I couldn't believe it!! I haven't cried like that in a long time!!! Anyways, I learned something really good from that and felt like I grew an inch spiritually!!! :) Yea, I wanna be a very tall loving beautiful giant in my spirit!!! I'm all good now and happy to fast again!!!
So can't wait to see what this fast will do for me this time!! It's always a surprise!!!
This will be for blessings of the mind, heart, hands, body, spirit, and life with love, because love heals and prospers!!!!

Welcome welcome welcome... so nice to be fasting with you all.
I had a great day today. I learned that watermelon juice and I are not friends. My body is completely rejecting it and so... my hubby will drink the rest of my watermelon juice.
I learned that yes... my hair does look amazing when I have it done up right. Went to the hairdresser today and got fully dressed LOL
Pics to follow!!!

Scrolling down the first page quickly to get to the newest posts and what do I see but all your lovely smiling faces. Each of you are an inspiration.
Aleesha, I didn't realize you had blue eyes. I can tell you love the new doo. Just look at that smile your sportin. With the vibrant eyes and blue streak, I'm reminded of the Lapis Lounge's fireplace on the Christina O. (Gee I'm not very good with words....didn't mean to compare you to a fireplace, but you do look lovely.)
Today was great, but not altogether pain free.
Whoah-raw, I get very sensitive during a fast also. You weren't the only one crying. I wept today after watching a little neighbor girl do a faceplant onto the pavement while running after a dog. I think she might have "stepped on a pop top and blew out a flip flop". I rushed out to help her but her adrenalin kicked in and she was up and headed for home with a busted lip and skinned elbow by the time I got there. As I returned to the oil change I was doing, I began weeping for her and the pain she suffered.
This evening was filled with good things too, like positive news in my brothers life, whom I'd been praying for. The experience he related to me was nearly identical to realizations I had in my morning meditation and reading.
It's like all the events during a fast are lessons taught, driven home and stored for future use. I think one of you ladies said something to that effect the other day. So true!
Strider's hoping to make more big strides on this fast.

So true Strider... so true.
I slept... or rather didn't sleep well last night at all. My lower back is very sore and I was worried about my child all night. Nothing I wanna share here... just a Mom being a Mom.
So every time I woke up... I was in worry mode. Ugh... what a waste of energy. Like I can do anything to assist in the middle of the night... but there I laid... worrying. :(
Today we are going to a potluck... I'll be taking my cantaloupe juice with me YUMMY!!! I think I'll have my tom juice before we go (it starts at 2) and that way I don't miss out. Having my tom juice daily is a huge part of this fast for me. If I have to miss out... I feel like I'm really doing without... but as long as I get my tom juice... I don't even feel like I'm fasting LOL Weird how the mind works...
Drinking my water at the moment...

I'm planning for this day (and everyday) to be a winning day which is how I came up with my name, Lady Winday!!!! And having a winning attiude about life in general!
Had some carrot/apple/raw honey juice and feeling a little funky today like I can feel another emotional detox coming around. I'll just have to wait and see.......
Strider ~ Very cool name! :cool: Thanks for sharing. It was just a moment of how I really miss someone that I've lost in touch with for quite some time now that has always been there for me and beleive in me. This person has taught me how to believe in me when I never really did my whole life! And now I'm thankful for this very special person who is a huge part of who I am and have been there for me basically all my life. And out of my tears, it made me realized that I have the power to beleive in me all on my own! Fasting had made it possible for me to realized that!
Cheers for today!!! ~ Lady Winday ~

Love the hair, Aleesha! It really works for you! Funny how our hair can either make or break us.
I'm fasting thru Wednesday. DH has been making some awesome smoothies so I may just break my fast with one of those! I feel energetic this weekend! Got my car washed and waxed. She is soooo pretty! We went to a Farm Fest last night. What an awesome place! 750 acres of protected land that will never be developed! The owners are great people. One of them took us on a 1 hour hike and it was fabulous! Completely beautiful. They had a stage with bands/groups playing and DH was in one of the performing groups. Their pics are in the local paper today. It was a really fun time with good people out in the middle of a beautiful setting.
We are getting some perfect fall weather this weekend. I love it! I wish the pleasant fall weather would last as long as the hot summer weather did!

Sounds like a great way to spend an evening. We are going to a farm today to spend time with a family who is Vegan and very into wholesome everything. I loved it when I met their kids (two little girls) and the little one said to me, "We don't eat sugar thank you"... I told her I don't either and her Dad and I bonded over the camping weekend (that was the homeschooling campout we went to a few weeks ago).
So today we are going to their home. I look forward to spending the day with people who do not find what I do and consume to be odd! :)

Okay, so I have decided to join! I am very nervous and excited at the same time. I have never done a fast so I am not sure what to expect. I started today. I am doing green smoothie fast for each of meals, and drinking lots of water with lemon in it.
The reason why I am fasting is because:
I want to heal my body
Help with my thyroid issue
lose a little extra weight around my waist
be able to listen to my body for when it is REALLY hungry
gain more patience
I will be juicing as well, but right now I am really loving my green smoothies. I just got by vita-mix blender so I am so excited with it. Thank you for this group.:)

Any of you check your blood pressure as you fast? I did mine at one of those pharmacy desk units and I was alittle higher than usual. I have been taking some salt in to balance electrolytes to remove muscle cramping, and maybe I had too much or was just too energized from the fruit juices. I probably had a half teaspoon in the last 24. I've had plenty of water, but maybe not enough salt to balance it. I've had to stop at each store during my errands today to use the facilities.
Maybe three days after I'd broke my last water fast, it was 134/74. Today, after two days of fruit/juice I was 152/84, which the machine said was pre (diastolic) to moderate (systolic) hypertension. Could the sugars in the fruit juices do that?

I tell myself this:
a) This food will still exist when my fast is over. I do not need to eat it today.
b) Look at all the fat/unhealth these people will put on/in their bodies... I will not gain any weight or ill-health from this since I'm not eating it!
c) This fast is a choice... and I choose to continue.
Those three work for me!

Good Morning Fellow Fasters....
Thats right... I wasn't going to start until tomorrow, but my body and spirit really need me to start today.
So here I am.... I've already had my first qt.of water with lime juice. Now I'm drinking some carrot/celery juice. My husband just came through the door with some pineapples (he has to go out of town for the day today so he'll start tomorrow). And I have lots of other fruits/veggies for the week!!
There is a small (or maybe big) part of me that doesn't want to give up eating, but that is part of the problem with where my health is at. I never want to stop eating..... Not in a food disorder way, but..... well, its just a problem for me.
So here I am.. I'm loving that I'm starting this fast and I'm hopeful for what it can bring.

Well hello all! I am not sure if this counts as a fasting, but I am going to try and do it a little bit more slower, I really didn't feel that great. So this is what I have done this far today:
***Removed by Moderator - discussing food items that were eaten***
I know that this doesn't sound like fasting, but for me it is, because i am not eating any SAD food.
I had a question, how do you know when you are truly hungry? my body seems like it is hungry because of how i used to eat, every three hours, but i am not sure if it is true hunger. My belly growls a little and i start to feel light headed. any tips?
nadien alexandra
10-04-2010, 03:29 PM
little fast starting today. I have some down time this week with just small walking and working so I'm taking this op to fast.
:)
today... i had some lemon/matcha water, juiced some pineapple in my mouth, and will drink lots of warm water for the rest of the day.
tomorrow, lime water, chamomile water, and ginger water.
I am feeling a little slow today. A little "out of focus" i went for a long walk and felt like I was dreaming, like the sky wasn't really there, and this physical plain could dissolve at any moment.
I also feel extremely blessed to experience the sky, the smell of autumn here in the kooteneys, and I'm spending the rest of my day drinking water, laying in the grass and in meditation.

Sorry tryingtogoraw but you'll have to post in another section cause what you are doing is not fasting. We don't discuss food items in this thread... out of respect for those of us who are not eating at this time.
nadien, I have felt like that at times as well. I loooooove those moments. I always feel so much closer to God/Goddess/All-that-is
we are having a relaxing day today since i've been so busy and have another busy week coming up. i had tom juice for breakfast today LOL - weird i know but i wanted it and on day 114... darn it if i want it i'm having it! *giggling*

I'm not feeling good.. It has nothing to do with the fast. I had two permanent crowns put on today and my head, mouth, and teeth just hurt!!! I really just want some juice, but with my hubby gone, I'll have to make it. The thought of cleaning, standing, and juicing seems a bit much right now, but I will do what I need to do :(
So just a little complaining.. Sorry... I have teeth problems.

I had a really good fasting day today. My coworker friend is fasting as well, so it makes it more fun to discuss what juices we're making and how we're feeling. She is doing some kind of motivational workbook at home to teach her to stay motivated for reaching goals. For her it is weightloss. She said the book says she has to have a "coach" that will help her stay focused and someone she can talk to easily. She told me I already do all the things that the book says she needs so she "officially" asked me to be her motivational coach. :) And of course I will because she's one of my bestest friends and that's what bestest friends do! (We worked together at my previous job and after I changed jobs and another job came open, we ended up back together again.)
It was a bit chilly here today. I'm not quite ready for it to be there yet! I love fall, but not when it stays chilly during the day! The leaves are just starting to change. It will be a few weeks before they hit their peak and I can walk in them and enjoy the "crunch crunch crunch" sound they make.

Sooooooo-- I've been reading the fasting thread. What is that actually all about/??? Is this mostly for detoxing purposes? It appears from what I'm reading that this is a quicker way to detox from all the bad stuff put into the body right??? What type of fasting is best or does that depend??? I've been on the raw food diet for 2 months now and vegatarian since March.

Lady Aredhel, sending love light and Reiki to you... (((hugs)))
Miss, you will make a great coach!!! You are very motivational indeed!
blizz, people fast for different reasons... each their own. there is no one right way to fast, nor one reason. it is detoxing... and there is no way to fast that is better than another... what you can achieve is what matters. there's no sense fasting on water if you can only go for a few hours.... better to fast on juice then. some don't like to fast on juice as it's time consuming to make, so they do a M/C... it's all about what you want to do and achieve. i suggest you do lots of research!
i'm having a totally relaxing day... just what i needed. *bliss*

Okay... it's time for a change folks... this mama is switching it up. Doing a water fast for the next 6 days.
I have a Reiki client - starting tomorrow - having four sessions in three days and then I have an attunement with one of my students on Saturday. She's becoming a Reiki M/T and that's huge... so I want to fast on water as a gift to my Self. AND... that way I'll break my water fast on Thanksgiving. I promised my daughter I'd have juice at the table while they all eat... so this way I can keep that promise. *smiling*
AND my hunger will be super muted being on water for so long so the prep of all that food will be breeze for me. *thinking positive here*
This is my second challenging day of my fast. I expected three... and the last will be Yule/Christmas week... so this will get me into the home stretch!
I know I have a bit of produce (toms and cantaloupes) that may go bad over the next six days... but I really want to do this... so if no one eats them... then no one eats them. My focus needs to be on what I need... and right now... I (think) I need to do water.
*lots of support from you all please*
love and light,

Hello. I've got a question for y'all.
A friend who is a acupuncturist and natropath (sp?) is on a Blentec streak. She said I really need to include fiber on my cleanse to clear out my colon. She made me a many veggie/fruit smoothie and it was pretty yummy... So, my question is, with the entire veggie/fruit (including stuff like an avocado pit), is this still considered juice fasting and is it as detoxing/cleansing as juice from a juicer?
Except for my Blentec "smoothie", I'm still on my juice fast. Tomorrow will be day 40 and I'm not sure how much longer I'll go... Starting to watch lots of cooking programs and finding great sounding recipes one the web (LOL),:p
Thanks and happy fasting. :)

Hello....Hello....HELLO FELLOW FASTERS!!!!!!
O.K., yea....I'm BAAAACK!!!! I'm getting the fasting "itch" again!!! :=) I've actually been lurking around this thread since I broke my fast!!! :o I just CAN'T seem to stay away from you!!!!! :D
I am so excited, because this time I want to do a Water/Juice/Coconut Fast (basically a Liquid Fast)!!! I Love, Love, LOVE Coconuts!!!! And, I found a place where I can get a good deal on them!!! I'm expecting Alissa's new book to come around October 28th, so I'm gonna start my Juice fast today and end it when I get my new RAW Book!!!!!
Hey Lady Awen, I actually considered going the rest of the distance with you for the remaining 222 days of your fast!!!!! But, I don't have that special ZING that you have in the WATER up there in CANADA!!!!!!!! LOL!!!! So, I guess I'll just stick with the month...............for NOW..... ;) Well, we'll SEE!!!!! LOL!!!!!
I'm VERY excited about this!!! What FUN in the FASTING POOL!!!!! :D
Hugs!

Good Morning Fellow Fasters :D
Aleesha.... I think I would be right there with you..... myyyy preciuos.... you can't have it.... we needs it..... Your husband would have been laughing at both of us;)
Renee.. so glad your back. I've felt the same way as you do. After I did my first 28day fast, I just couldn't get fasting out of my head. I would still be on the boards and continued to do shorter fasts here and there. I love the support these boards give and it nice meeting new people :)
Suzanne.. there a lots of people who do smoothie fasts. Do what you feel your body needs. That being said... I don't believe you have to "have" fiber doing a fast. Some things like physillium husk powder can be used if you feel that would help. When you read over old threads, you'll see that we talk alot about having a BM and other fun stuff. Our bodies release and clean out when they need to, with out a whole lot of "help". But really.... whatever works for you :)
I am drinking my first qt. of water for the day. I really need to get those in or sometimes I'll forget.
My husband is starting with me today. He came home last night and juiced up his juice for work today. We are both excited to be doing this.
My mouth is feeling much better this morning and that makes me happy **doing a little happy dance** So now I can just focus on my kiddos and their school without being in pain.
Happy fasting.... ~The Lady Aredhel~

So, my question is, with the entire veggie/fruit (including stuff like an avocado pit), is this still considered juice fasting and is it as detoxing/cleansing as juice from a juicer?
No it is not. In reality... you broke your fast. But... that doesn't mean you have to stop this fast. You can simply continue on.
When you drank that smoothie you restarted your digestion - which had been resting (it sleeps when you water fast and rests when you juice fast) - green smoothies wake everything up and tell them it's time to get back to work!
Have you found that your desire for foods and interest in eating has increased since you had that smoothie?
Lady Aredhel was correct in explaining about bms and fasting. I'm kinda surprised that someone who has the credentials your friend has wouldn't know anything about fasting since it's such a huge tool in regaining health. Oh well... they can't know everything. Perhaps you can learn more about fasting and enlighten her? :D
I'm on day 115 and I still continue to have bms... yup... still happening! The only thing I've added in the last little while is the P&B shakes - to stop my 'butt pee' and it's done it's job. I only had 4 shakes in total (over about a week) and now I'm doing great.
Lemon-Nee... welcome back!!! It would be very cool for you to walk beside me for the remainder of this fast... ;)
Lady Aredhel, I'm so glad your mouth is feeling better. Nothing worse than a sore mouth.
So today begins my water fasting. I'm hoping for 6+ days... we'll see what I get though. You never know with me. But I'm going to attempt to be strong for this... and get it done. I wants it... I needs it... I likes it... I really really likes it... *positive thinking here LOL*

Lady Awen.... you can do this. You are one determined woman!!! Go deep and get all you can from this water fast!!
My wonderful hubby left me some pineapple/apple/cucumber/lemon juice today... He's soooooo great!!
My son just brought in about 10 small watermelons from our garden. He's juicing us some right now. What a sweetie!!
My tummy is feeling a little on the soar side today, but I know I have alot of "cooked" food stuff trying to make its way out. I can't wait to be a few more days into this fast. But I will take each day and learn and grow from them!

One of the things I love about fasting is every fast... heck even every day brings different gifts to me. I never know what I'll get. I can have an 'intention' for my fast. I can have a 'desire'... but what I get is always exactly what I need... not what I want.
Even though I wants it... I feels I needs it... Precious knows... precious always knows...

I just got back from getting some Coconuts!!!! $1.05 per Coconut!!!!! Usually they are $1.99 at HEB and $2.99 at Fiesta and Whole Foods!!!! HEB in Katy doesn't put them in the frig and they spoil fast there... I've been telling the Produce Manager for simply YEARS!!! I won't buy them there because of that reason...
I'm actually gonna have to start tomorrow. I was out of everything and have been shopping all day....got hungry and ate the Watermelon I intended to juice!!!! :o. But, I'll be good and ready tomorrow!!! :)
I ordered my Organic co-op box for Thursday, but I'm all set till then! Got plenty to start juicing tomorrow!!!

I can't even imagine a water fast yet, but I know you can do this. Pull those panties high and keep going forward :rolleyes:
Okay.... I have a question about coconuts. I thought I could get them cheeper, but I can't. Soooooo.... is there a huge difference between young coconuts and the mature coconuts?? I mean, is the juice not good from mature coconuts? Because I can get mature coconuts for over 1/2 the price of young ones. So I thought that it may still be good for us even if they aren't young.

What a cool day in this little fasting world of ours! Everyone is working their plan and that is a great thing!
Doing good here. My fasting buddy made it through 2 days. I'm very proud of her! As a reward, I am taking her some of the smoothie that DH just made. She was so excited when we left work today and she can't wait till tomorrow to try it. I know it probably tastes awesome (he said it does and he's usually right!) and I want some but I water fasted most of today, then switched to juice. I'm not breaking fast till tomorrow and I'm starting with prunes so the smoothie will have to wait till later.
I see things in myself... How "controlled" I can be by food when I am not fasting, yet how disciplined I can be at not having food when I am fasting. It's like I have this switch that I can toggle back and forth from one to the other! I'm either one extreme or the other. I don't overeat when I do eat, but I just think about all the good things I want to have. But when I fast, I tend to only think about the things I want to juice! I don't think it's a bad way to be. It just amazes me how I can change my focus so completely from one to the other.
The only thing that really seems to bother me with fasting is that my vision isn't as clear. That really gets on my nerves! I'm not sure why it does that. Once I start eating again, it seems to be okay.

missy.... I so totally understand you. When I'm not fasting all I seem to think about is the food I want to eat. Except... I will actually over eat (always vegan, unprocessed, but still). But when I'm fasting, the food doesn't bother me like that. I have control and its amazing.
I hate bouncing back and forth like that but I'm hopeful as I continue to fast that I will learn how to have more control when I'm not fasting and how to have a healthier relationship with food.

Hi, my name is Melly and I just joined this community a few minutes ago but I've been reading for many months now. I'd love to join the October fasters, if you'll have me :) I wrote an introduction over in the intro section... I've done a couple fasts before, the longest was 7 days.
My intention is to begin tomorrow morning and go for at least 7 days, though I'd love to do 30. I'm going to take it one day and one juice at a time.
My reasons for this fast:
~To get back on track with my raw eating. I've veered away from my 100% rawness and would like to get back to that.
~To clean out my system of all the non-rawness I've put in it :)
~To give my body a rest.
~To get back in touch with my spirituality, which I've also become somewhat distanced from in the past couple months. I intend to use the extra time I have while juicing to meditate and go within.
I have read the fasting thread during my previous fasts and I think it will be much more fun to actually be involved this time. To talk to others who are doing the same :) I can't wait... about to drink lots of yummy water for the rest of the evening.
Aleesha Sattva
10-05-2010, 08:14 PM
old coconuts... barely any water in them... often NO water in them. young coconuts... 1/2+ litre of water in each one.
i've read that it's one of your organs detoxing when you vision is not clear... i 'think' it's your liver (but don't believe that cause i'm not sure).
i do the exact same thing... when i'm fasting... it's like a switch turns in my head (i even say that all the time)... and when i'm not... then it's GAME ON for all the foods i want. i'd love a more middle line when it comes to food but ... when i eat for longer than a few days between fasts, i do find that middle line (mentally and emotionally)...
so we are all working on the same thing! amazing... a trio of lovely ladies... :) (well technically two elves and a human LOL)
i just finished the Reiki session with my client. two more sessions tomorrow. i'm very pleased that i've chosen to do this water fast. her session was INTENSE... and i think the water had something to do with that!
just squeezed a few drops of lime into my water...

good on you for considering it a gift to do a water fast (or any fast, or anything healthy, like a walk in the night air, or a meditation by a river..!)
it's such a gift really!
I'm gifting myself with a water fast tomorrow as well, continued from today.

so, i had a cup of yogi fasting tea (or as i call it... love tea). in total i've had 3 litres of water today, 1-2 T of E3Live and my cup of tea. no headache... no real lack of energy... just a tummy that is wanting more. but that's getting less and less as the evening progresses.
i was hoping to spend some time in the sauna tonight, but i didn't get to it. i plan on relaxing in there in between Reiki sessions tomorrow.

Thanks for all the warm welcomes, everyone. I love my avatar as well, it's so colorful and nice to look at! As I said in my earlier post, I intend to start tomorrow morning. I forgot to post that I'll be having a mix of fruit and vegetable juices, lots and lots of water, and some of the yogi fasting tea because I'm a big fan of it as well! During my last 5 day fast I noticed the veggie juices were making me a little nauseous so I stuck with mostly fruit juices, and greens juiced into them rather than a whole cup of, say, carrot juice. I may try that again this time around... I'm really going to just trust my body and take it moment by moment. It's great to have you all here to talk to along the way, and to have a place to check-in and help keep me focused.
I just finished drinking two quarts of water and I'm heading to bed after some relaxing stretching. I'll let you know how my first day goes tomorrow :) I hope your first day goes well too, Renee! Great work to those already fasting!!

Thank you, Lady Aredhel and Aleesha. I guess there are mixed opinions about fiber in smoothies vs. juice sans fiber. No worries - I guess I will consider this the end of my fast.
When you drank that smoothie you restarted your digestion - which had been resting (it sleeps when you water fast and rests when you juice fast) - green smoothies wake everything up and tell them it's time to get back to work!
Have you found that your desire for foods and interest in eating has increased since you had that smoothie?

My interest in food is about the same as it's been for the past few days - not increased (started reading recipes, etc. but not necessarily wanting to eat before drinking the smoothie). My friend just happens to be on a serious Blentec-smoothies-for-healing thing right now (she's up on fasting and good with it as well). I think that adding smoothies to my juicing is a gentle way to end my fast. I guess I will start eating melons and soft fruits and maybe a salad in a few days. I think I will also start adding some probiotics. I had originally started this for 3 days, which turned into 7, 21, 30... 40. Not too bad for my first fast. I'm sure I will have many others. ::rolleyes:
Thanks for the information and advise. Happy fasting. :)

Today is day 3 for me! I'm sitting here drinking my first qt. of water for the day. Its funny..... yesterday I had drank almost 2 qt. of water and over a gallon of juice through out the day and when I was getting ready for bed (around 10:00), I realized I was very thirsty. I ended up drinking another 1-2 cups of water. I felt better and then went to sleep. :rolleyes:
I have watermelon juice ready for today. Also some carrot/celery juice. I'll probably make some pineapple juice too if I feel I need it. We'll see.
melly.... I look forward to hearing about your journey on this fast. I'm sure you will learn alot about your body.

Hummmmm.... I like your Cinnamon Idea!!!! Sounds like Feasting is for me! I like the Coconut "meat" and water mixed... Is Feasting making Smoothies and RAW Soups (like my Veggie Broth, I mean) as well as Coconut "meat" Smoothies?
I think my digestion system will not be shut down if I "Feast" like when "Fasting", am I correct?
I will be juicing most of the time, though I would like to add Smoothies. So, I think what I doing can be termed in the "Feasting" catagory. Can I still post here if I am "Feasting"? ...I won't mention food, I promise!!! :D

A little info (http://www.falconblanco.com/health/fasting.htm#Water%20Fasting%20Concern) to share:
Proteins & Fasting
It was theorized that protein loss during fasting was harmful and that a fast should be supplemented with protein. Fasting with protein became known as the Opti-fast. Fasters took nothing but water and a protein drink. Sadly, several people died. Protein digestion during the fasting state created an overload of urea and the blood become acidic. In this condition, the organs become more damaged instead of healing. To the body, fasting is a natural process. During water or juice fasting, the protein levels of the blood remain constant. Although protein is being utilized, a person fasting 40 days on water will not suffer a deficiency of either protein, vitamins, minerals or fatty acids. In the breakdown of dying and diseased cells, all essential substances are available while fasting for reuse within the body. These dead cells are utilized in a systematic manner.
Protein deficiency is non existent in North America. You never hear of anyone being diagnosed with protein deficiency. Fruit and vegetable juices have water-soluble highly absorbable proteins. The body has a store of protein, and it uses it selectively. Dying cells are the first to be used and healthy and vital tissues are the very last and will only be used as a last resort. Only during starvation is protein being stripped from healthy tissue to be used to survive. This may take 30 to 80 days of fasting on water to reach this point.
The systematic searching of cells to be metabolized is crucial in the healing of cancer. A cancer cell represents protein and calories. Some cancers are so persistent that you have to force the body to choose between healthy cells and cancer cells. This requires a long fast on small portions of juice combined with days of water fasting.

VERY interesting:
Backache
Back pain may increase due to toxins in the lower intestine. The blood vessels that draw nutrients from the colon are very close to the nerves of the spine. Back pain often decreases after elimination of the toxins. Back exercises also can relieve some pain. A cold pack also will help. An enema may be in order...

more info (http://www.naturalhygienesociety.org/articles/fasting1.html)... from the researcher today LOL (that would be me)
Fat is an efficient storage form of excess energy. At 9.3 calories per gram, it contains more than twice as much energy by weight as carbohydrate and protein do (4.1 cal/g each). An average 70 kg (155 lb.) male has about 12.6 kg (28 lb., or 18% of body weight in a slim individual) of fat storing approximately 117,000 calories. This supply of energy could, theoretically, last a resting, fasting person about 70 days at a rate of 1,680 calories (1 cal/kg/hr) per day. (After two weeks, protein provides only about 5% of the calories per day.) With moderate activity, this would last half that time.

I've been drinking a lot of juice, and eating lightly the past few days ... feeling SO good tonight, the best I've felt in a long time. Have my morning veggies prepped and waiting.
This is my first juice feast ever! Other than when I've been sick, I can't remember ever going an entire day without eating--I think that after thousands of consecutive days of eating, it should not be too big a deal to skip a few days/weeks. ;) I will definitely juice feast 3 days, and then decide if I want to continue on at this time (I'm guessing I will).

Wow that is a lot of calories. I had no idea we carried around that many cals. No wonder it take a year or more of dieting to get slim again. I am intermittent fasting this month and doing fasts with spells of rawfood in between. I feel very calm and spirtual. I love getting in touch with my inner being. I have to catch up on this thread as I've been work all week and haven't touched base. Love how busy this place is.

Yes Lady Myst... we are a chatty bunch LOL
Zinny... remember the first three days are the hardest... so perhaps shoot for 5 and then make a decision. ;)
Had a love tea... and am feeling very listless... but the Reiki session blew my doors off... and have another soon... so I'm not surprised by the way I feel.
Remember... if you are dizzy and begin to black out... go down on one knee. It'll pass immediately!

After reading the link you posted, Aleesha, I wonder if using the Raw Protein in my juice isn't a good thing on my fasting days. Something to think about.
It does make sense that my vision would be more blurry due to liver detox. It sure is frustrating for me when I'm trying to read numbers at work, though!
I was soooo cold last night! I wore a hooded sweatshirt jacket to bed and had a velour blanket and heavy comforter on me as well. I even put the hood over my head I was soooo cold! I finally warmed up and slept good, but never did shed the jacket. It just got to a comfy point and I was good.
Added tomato to my juice tonight. :)
My other coworker that has started juicing said that her skin on her face/forehead has been peeling almost like a sunburn. I told her it's probably something to do with the detox process. She uses a lot of carrots, celery and cucumber and a little ginger. I told her to be patient and that using those items will end up giving her a great complexion. She's looking forward to that!
Long, busy day today. Me be tired!

That article did have some good info. I love learning new things!!
missy... I too get very cold at night when I'm fasting (even when I'm not fasting :) What I do, and it really helps, is take a very warm bath with salts and oils right before bed. Then I curl into bed and I'm nice and warm for the night.
I just finished my tomato blend juice and I'm thinking of watching a movie with my hubby tonight. We're getting the kiddos in bed a little early ;)
My husband just discovered that I had bought some smoked chipotle. He was soooooo excited to try it in his tomato blend juice. Its too hot for me, but he LOVED it! He said thanks a few times for buying it :cool:
Until later...... Cathy :D

Welcome RawkinM... we're here with ya.
My hubby is making me a cantaloupe juice right now. I can barely stand up... this water fasting sucks the life right outta me. I just can't seem to do this. :( Makes me feel like a failure. Frig, I wish I could do this with a little more energy.
Lady Aredhel, I loooooooooove spicy. I can't wait for those spices to arrive!

Q&A ---- Interview with Dr. Bass:
What is important to know before ones first fast?
Water fasting is an ancient method, that is usually unequalled in speed and success for many hard-to-reverse diseases. But there are precautions: If your body is deficient in something, e.g. minerals, avoid water fasting. Vegans are often deficient. Newcomers to fasting need good supervision.
It is usually best to start with a short fast (max. 3 days, with bed-rest), then be on a good raw diet for a couple of months to let the body build health and strength, while removing its deficiencies. Then a short fast, then a good diet again, etc. In this way you'll avoid complications. Breaking the fast in a proper way is also very important.
Dr. Gian-Cursio observed migrating birds falling dead from the sky over New York on many occasions. Since these birds were fasting, his conclusion was that polluted air, as well as other toxins, can complicate fasts. Dr. Cursio therefore recommended fasting in an unpolluted environment. Persons who have been on drugs or are very toxic, or deficient / in a stage of depletion, always should be supervised professionally. Blood pressure and pulse are then checked daily, and the fast broken if necessary.
In the old days it was pretty easy and safe to go on a long water-fast.
Nowadays with all food additives, dangerous artificial fats and trans-fats, and potent drugs - all of which may have damaged people severely - it has become more difficult. E.g. almost all bakeries (and candy and ice cream makers) now use dangerous cheap artificial fats. Antibiotics can have damaged peoples immune systems. (Note: detoxification of antibiotics during fasting can give very high fevers.)
Actually it wouldn't surprise me if we within 20 years will get an enormous wave of mystery deaths, due to the low-quality foods and detrimental drugs we now give our children.
Also it is better to stay in bed, every day of the fast, with lots of sleep. I would not recommend ANY water-fast while working, long or short. If you want to work, you can instead go on a raw diet, or juice diet (juice fast). Download and read my Remarkable Recoveries booklet for descriptions of many different raw diets/juices, that have been used for disease-recovery. It will take longer time but essentially achieve the same result.
Also see How much weight-loss on juices vs. fasting?.
How should I break the fast?
Correctly ending a fast is extremely important. Since the stomach and digestive system have been taking a well-deserved rest, you have to start them up gently. Vegetable juices are fine, followed by small portions of raw foods over the next days. If you avoid sugar (fruits) for one week after a fast you should not develop the ravenous appetite that so easily can undo achieved weight loss. Note: serious (even life-threatening) problems can develop if you stuff yourself after a fast, especially with cooked foods.
What about enemas while fasting?
Many years ago, when I first started out I fasted many times while using enemas (colon cleansing). My experiences were negative, I often got weak and dizzy and experienced two blackouts. So I stopped the enemas, and never had any problems after that. Later I found out the Drs. Cursio and Shelton had had similar experiences, and also recommended against enemas.
What else do I need to know?
Don't take drugs, use toxins, or do anything enervating during a water fast. No acupuncture, no deep massage, no enemas, no work, no exercise allowed. Instead rest & sleep all the time, to conserve energy, which is needed for healing. If available energy is wasted, there will be no healing. If you need to work, instead go on a juice fast. If deficient (e.g. due to veganism), avoid water fasting - this is important. Water-fast maximally 3 days at a time, on your own.
This info comes from here (http://drbass.com/firstfast.html). I think that what I'm doing 'wrong' is that I'm attemping to function LOL I think (from what I've read today) is that water fasting should be done in bed... with total rest.
Of course there are people who are able to work and function and I really want to be one of those people... but alas... I don't seem to be. :(

Hey hey :)
What a day it has been, phew! It has been rough... usually it's my second day that kinda hurts but I messed up the flow a little... I had a very hard time falling asleep last night and had to work an early shift today. I had every intention of waking up early (even as I was laying there tossing and turning) and making lots of juice to take for the day. Well, I totally slept in ... got about 3 hours of sleep, MAYBE... had to run out the door without anything. Luckily my bf was kind enough to pick me up some fresh squeezed OJ from a local place but it just wasn't enough... by the time I got home I felt too tired to stand at the juicer, had to lay down... slept for 5 hours!! :D Now I'm up drinking some grapefruit juice and water he made me and thinking of a green juice soon :)
Despite all that, I still feel darn good. I love the feeling my body gets when I'm fasting... I try to describe it to my friends sometimes. I feel like I can literally feel my organs relaxing and taking a big sigh of relief. Such a wonderful feeling. And once I get more into me tonight I'll feel sooo much better.
Glad to hear everyone is also doing well today :)

Welcome RawkinM... we're here with ya.
Thank you.
Aleesha, I understand about being disappointed about being less active on water fasts (I think you really are it's just all on the inside.) Be kind to you. :)
When I've gone on them, it was more like hibernation and incubation. I think of all the animals who fast/hibernate in the winter and all of the spiritual leaders who went off by themselves to fast.
I'll be going in my cave, so to speak, with books and sketchpads and creative things I want to incubate and work on.

No BM today!!!!! I'm shocked!!!! Gonna drink some Detox Tea and see if I can stimulate one in the AM...
Maybe I could have drank more today. I think that's my problem. This juicing is starting to get expensive for me and I just started it!!!!!! I did have 1 Coconut this AM, two tall glasses of Carrot/Apple juice, and two glasses of fresh OJ. Oh, and a cup of Tea.... I also had a few glasses of pure H2O...
Oh, BTW, my MOM wants to do the M/C!!!!!!! She said I inspired her!!!!!! Cool, huh!!!!! Now, if I can just get her to eat RAW..........yea, I dare to dream!!!! :)

Hi Fasters. Thank you so much for the encouragement, information and support. I think it's time to end my fast (although I seem to be taking my sweet time about eating anything... I guess maybe more smoothies until then).
GoodCat - Thanks for the accolades. I'm sure you could do a 40 day - or as long as you'd like to - fast (it seems to just get easier, the further into it you go...). Aleesha - you're doing GREAT (a few bumps, but hang in there). Good luck making day 222 (wow!).
I think maybe next time - and there will be a next time!- I might try the M/C. Will wait a bit and see.
Or.... maybe I'll see you in a few days if I can't bring myself to eat. :confused:

Hi, I'm Annette. I've been eating completely raw for almost 3 years, and I broke for my first time about a month ago. Ever since, I keep craving (and often giving into) cooked food. However, it makes me feel horrible. I couldn't handle soy and wheat before raw, much less now. I have a lot of emotional problems (recently getting out of a 5yr relationship, etc.) and haven't been the same over the last few months. I also started drinking alcohol pretty often after the breakup. Basically, I have done mini-fasts in the past, but I'd like to start one and see how long I can go for. My first goal is one week. This thread is extremely inspiring and I feel that it will be very beneficial. I'll have to keep checking into this thread, as it's extremely inspiring and motivating.

Annette.... welcome along. Remember, the first 3 days are the hardest.
I'm starting my day with water and I have some grape/cucumber juice and some grapefruit/orange juice waiting for me. My kiddos have a music lesson this afternoon and so I'll be taking some juice with me ;)
I need to learn to go to bed earlier. I stay up reading and then I don't want to get up when I need too :rolleyes: I'll work on that ** giggle**

*huge breath and sigh*
I've been doing more research on water fasting. Even posted on a water forum to see if I could get some assistance. I really would love to include a water fast into this fast... I know my Guides want me to as well... but oh mama it is so hard.
For those of you here who water fast... how is your energy levels while you fast?
I think a couple of things contributed to my exhaustion. Doing two Reiki sessions yesterday and I woke up to my period this morning. Whenever I have my period I'm exhausted (I've shared in another part of this forum that I have menorrhagia) so this probably didn't help the situation.
Issue is... I have a huge meal to prepare this weekend and I need energy to do that.
So... I'm going back on juice for now until I can get some answers for myself that I can't seem to find in all the research I've read and vlogs I've watched... I am trying to find out if, after the first few days, the exhaustion lifts. I suspect it does not... but I'm hoping it does so I can water fast AND function. I need this to happen in order to water fast.
Thanks for all your support everyone but bottom line is this... I feel (inside) like I'm failing myself. I know mentally that's not a healthy way to view this... but is really is how I feel. I feel "less than"... and I have to allow these feelings to come so I can work through them. Cause stuffing them down to make other people (my hubby specifically) feel better about this is not the answer.
He does not want me fasting on water anymore. He doesn't like to see me so exhausted - which I totally understand cause I don't like to feel it... hence why I'm hoping to find some answers for myself.
It is what it is.

Aleesha, it's completely okay to be all over the place about it and to feel as you're feeling. I really think it's a foreign concept these days and there are few pockets who 'get' water fasting, so it's hard finding the proper support or answers. It's tough. I think your willingness to be open and honest about it will help you through. Hang in there and do what you need to do!
When I water fast I have zero energy. If I were cooking a big meal like you said you were - I'd take it in little bits. Like, put the whatever on, have a sit, stir such and such well and do this and have a sit. I've had to do something similar with house cleaning. If you can recruit some help, it'd be good.
Doing pretty well fasting over here - I have some increased healing crisis symptoms and feel tired a lot but a sign it's working inside. This is the first time through the process I've learned to really just let go and trust. That used to be so hard or impossible. Yay~ progress!

Okay I found my answer. I have a little something for ya. In all my research I discovered the tiniest bit of anything added to a water fast causes your body to come out of ketosis and go back into day one... living off the energy in whatever you are adding.
So the deep healing doesn't happen until after day 3 - as your body doesn't begin to rely on itself for energy...
Just a thought if you were looking for deep healing... if you are just looking for weight release, then what you are doing will work.

I'm on day 3 of light lemon water fast. But I've done several water fasts in the past (usually a few days to 1 week) and several lemon water fasts.
I'm hoping to go longer on this lemon water fast, then just go water in a few days or a week.
I'm glad to hear your hubby will help! Supportive, understanding ones can really make these journeys easier.
Oops just saw the great info you found! Yeah, I read that in one of the links you posted yesterday. I'm actually looking to go a month or two - in 'my' timing. I'm trying to rely on my body this time though - if it gets done next week or 3 months from now, great - I just want to give it whatever it needs (even if that means nothing so it can rest! LOL) I've got obesity to release (though this is not primary to fasting for me) but also female probs to heal, if not cure. So one of my goals with this are learning to let go and trust in my body/self/Spirit; to reconnect to all those things; to release health probs and let my body get well and then if weight loss is a side effect- great!

Hi all!
I have decided not to fast again right now... BUT, I have a GREAT reason why!!!! :D My kids want to eat RAW again!!!!!!! They had been RAW before with me, but stopped when my Hubby would bring home SAD food. :(
So, I'm going to continue to Juice during the day and prepare RAW meals for them and share with them in the evening! I'm totally happy with that for now! This morning, I had some Orange Juice, Carrot/Apple/Spinach Juice, a Smoothie, and a raw food (with them) for dinner. Hopefully they can continue to stay RAW...that's the plan! My daughter (she's 8) picked up Alissa's book and began reading it tonight!!!!! I'm gonna incorporate RAW books into our Curriculum for Homeschooling beginning tomorrow so that they can learn WHY eating RAW is so important. Also, they went to my Organic Co-Op to pick up my Share and loved that most everyone there is RAW!!!
Anyway, I'll be back with you guys soon! Making RAW meals for them is something that will take a lot of focus for me, so I will pick back up with my fast very soon!!!
Wishing all of you continuted success on your fasts!!!!!!!! You all are doing GREAT!!!! :cool: I'll be back soon!!!

Yeah. I use lemon at first to help alkalize so I won't gave horrid healing crisis at first. (And to help the liver process all of the toxins now rushing into my system) And the condition I have clears up if I drink just lemon water in a week. (Odd but I guess it's a hormone/blood thing)

That's great RawkinM... you need a good fellowship name my friend!
Here's some more info (http://naturalhygienesociety.org/articles/fasting1.html) for you all...
1. Gastrointestinal Phase
The six-hour period following a meal, during which glucose, amino acids, and fat are absorbed into the blood, is the gastrointestinal phase. The hormone, insulin, is released from the pancreas into the blood in response to glucose and amino acids absorbed into the blood from the intestines. Insulin plays the major role in this phase and causes the liver and muscle to take the blood glucose into the cells and store it as glycogen. Insulin also allows all the other tissues of the body to take up glucose to be used as energy.
In muscle cells, insulin causes amino acids to be taken up from the blood to replace the contractile protein broken down and used as fuel since the previous meal. Proteins in the form of enzymes in other tissues are also replaced in this way. Excess glucose is converted into fatty acids by the liver and adipose tissue.
Those fatty acids formed in the liver are transported to the adipose tissue via the blood stream where they are stored as fat along with the fatty acids produced in the adipose tissue. Fat is absorbed from the intestines into the surrounding lymphatics which run together to form a common lymphatic duct called the thoracic duct which dumps the contents into the venous blood system at a point in the neck. This fat is then taken up from the blood and stored in adipose tissue. The uptake and storage of all these nutrients into the cells is due to the influence of elevated insulin levels in the blood.
2. Glycogenolysis
The period following the gastrointesting phase, which continues for the next two days, is the glycogenolysis phase, during which time the liver and muscle, under the influence of decreased insulin and increased glucogen (a second hormone released by the pancreas), break down their glycogen to glucose. Glucose from the liver is used mainly by the brain, which can use only glucose for energy at this stage. (Red blood cells and the adrenal glands also can only use glucose, but they require much less than the central nervous system.) The liver glycogen supply of glucose lasts about twelve hours.
Muscle glycogen produces glucose for consumption by muscle. This supply may last twelve to twenty-four hours depending on activity. With decreased insulin levels, fat is broken down by the adipose tissue into fatty acids which are released into the blood and used as fuel by liver and muscle cells. After eight to ten hours one-half of muscle fuel is from fatty acids.
3. Gluconeogenesis
Although it begins a few hours after the last meal, in two days gluconeogenesis, the process of converting amino acids into glucose, becomes the major source of glucose for the brain. Non-essential proteins found in muscle and digestive enzymes are broken down into their individual amino acids which are then transported to the liver. The liver converts amino acids into glucose and urea. Urea is excreted by the kidneys, and the glucose is used mainly by the brain for energy. After two weeks of fasting, the kidney gradually takes on the majority of gluconeogenesis.
4. Ketosis
By the third day, ketosis becomes significant and increases up to the second week of fasting. Due to the low insulin levels and increase release of fatty acids from adipose tissue, the liver, under the influence of high levels of fatty acids, begins converting them to ketones to be used by muscle and brain for energy. As the concentration of ketones increases in the blood during the first two weeks of fasting, more is able to cross the blood brain barrier and supply fuel to the brain. In this way, the brain can use less glucose, and therefore, the demand for gluconeogenesis and breakdown of protein becomes less.
Protein consumption
The consumption of protein decreases from 75 grams per day in the first week to 20 grams per day by the end of the second week. Muscle tends to use mainly fatty acid and saves the ketones for use by the brain. It should be noted that protein is still a required source of energy.
Obese persons with an apparent abundant source of energy as fat would have to be careful not to exhaust their much smaller amounts of non-essential proteins in very long fasts. An average adult male whose ideal weight is 70 kg (155 lb.) would have 30 kg (66 lb.) of muscle tissue which contains 6 kg (13.2 lb.) of muscle protein once water is excluded. Assuming that the majority of the protein used in a fast is from muscle, this man would lose 4kg (8.8 lb.) of muscle tissue in the first two weeks and 0.7 kg (1.5 lb.) every two weeks thereafter. In three months, he would have lost one-half this muscle mass. A moderately obese person, who has fat stores which can easily last longer than three months, would be very weak after three months from loss of muscle mass and would be in danger of using essential proteins such as cardiac muscle.

Aleesha - glad to hear you're feeling better and are sticking it out with the water :D I'm sure you will find your balance.
Day 2 has been way better than yesterday! I took advantage of being able to sleep in today before going into work and it was soo nice. Right now I'm drinking a tomato, celery, kale and cilantro juice. Cilantro and tomato is one of my favorite combos in life. I'm feeling really good today. The only issue I run into when I fast is that I really enjoy eating - I love the textures of it. I'm working on the ways I deal with getting through moments when I just want to throw in the towel. I've noticed it's very important I stay busy... working, reading, doing yoga, taking a walk. So far so good this time!! :p

Good morning fasters & feasters!
Yesterday went reasonably well--my biggest challenges were logistical. I had planned to spend most of the day at home, which is a good thing as I had to pee more than a dozen times! I tried making larger batches of juice than I normally do, but I found it very difficult to drink more than 1/2 liter at a time (and I don't like drinking juice that hasn't been freshly made).
This is definitely a cut in my calories and especially my fat, so I wound up having some fruit juice too. (The best was grapefruit-orange-parsley.) If I'd been out and about I think it would have been very trying.
I will have to experiment with scheduling, and see if I can increase the quantities I drink in a sitting. Hopefully by the end of the weekend I'll find a rhythm. I have work assignments where I need to be both very alert and not need a bathroom for several hours, so I'll have to see if I can find a way to do this.
Overall, no big detox reaction, a bit tired, and a bit cranky trying to keep up with calories. Went to bed early. Feeling pretty good this morning.

so i'm sipping on water.
yesterday was a great day. i felt fab right up until i went to bed. nice change from the day before. very nice indeed!
i didn't weigh myself this morning... but i am guessing that i'm at a mini goal weight for myself today. 139 pounds. :D i was at 140 yesterday... so since i'm on water, that makes sense.
now to set a new mini-goal of 129... ohhhh yaaaaaa this mama just keeps on moving on!

I'm having a very busy week and its causing a little stress. I really want to learn not to stress, but being very busy and trying to make juices is hard at times. I almost was talking myself out of continuing my fast, but I didn't. This morning I am more ready to handle the things still to come over the next 10 days and then it should get better since my schedule gets very light ;) I had to remind myself of the reasons for doing this fast.... and that really helped!
I'm sipping on my first qt. of water for the day. We have our homeschool coop this morning, and we won't be back until around 12:30, so I'm taking some juices with me.. I believe I have watermelon and maybe some pineapple. We'll see.
Aleesha... I'm glad you are doing better and finding your balance :cool:

Cathy,
Remember you can also add chlorella and spirulina to your juices to assist your body to go further on less juice if needed. ;)

Good Morning Fasters :) I have been lurking the past couple days preparing myself for a fast.
I chose to leave raw for a while and ventured to a vegan Traditional Chinese fertility diet in my quest for a fmaily. Well, the period started yesterday and I went off the deep end with food and emotions are wild and I need to ground myself and come back to center.
So - I will be offically joining on Tuesday and using these next four days to prepare myself for a minimum nine day fast (three sets of three days). I am beginning today by drinking more water and finding a journal to begin writing in. I have a lot of healing to do and this helps me so very much.
My goal is th cleanse emotionally, to purge the sorrow, jealousy, and anger from my body so I can fill all my cells with light and joy. Now, this may indeed take longer than nine days, but nine is a start and we'll see where I go from there.
Though the fast offically begins Tuesday, I vow to start today with (and continue through):
~water before anything else in the morning
~at least three liters of juice a day
~daily meditation (can combine with Yin Yoga poses)
~daily writing - a morning purge to get the negative thoughts out and start my day right and a nightly writing of the beautiful things I noticed throughout the day to go to sleep with a smile
I choose Maethoriel (My-thore-ee-ell) for my Fellowship name. It is my name - Kellie - in Elvish. Kellie is Galic for strong warrior. I call upon the power of my name....

Welcome shine.... Maethoriel ..... What a great name.
Over 15 years ago, my husband and I really wanted a family. We wanted it to start quick. I tried everything I knew at the time to get pregnant and I didn't. Our oldest daughter is adopted. We knew we were adopting her from the very being. I was trying to still get pregnant at the same time. We finally stopped "trying" for a minute and relaxed and enjoyed life. When my daughter was 7 months old, I found out I was pregnant. I was very surprised. This was a total of about a year and a half of not getting pregnant.
Now I have 6 children... :)
I just wanted to encourage you and I hope that it will!!

Thank you Lady Awen (((Hugs))) right back! Your current journey is awesome in the true sense of the word. Thank you for all the information you so willingly share with all of us.
Lady Aredhel, thank you so much for sharing your story. It's always nice to know things do work out. I have a long history of miscarriage and now three years of infertility but we refuse to give up hope :) Adoption is a beautiful option and one we have begun to look seriously into. This journey of mine to come back to center and heal will only assist on that journey as well! Blessings to you and your family :)

Checking in before I head off to work for the evening. I'm feeling very grateful to be on day 3 already, the time has flown. Drinking some more water before making some greeny juices to take. I'm feeling amazing and the weather is just gorgeous today!

Welcome Maethoriel ~ much healing to you
I still need to find a name too...hmmm....I think I want to go with
Lady Adonnenniel
(Ah-don-nen-nee-ell)
It means born again (or the name Renee which is not actually my name. My name is Misty) I think the last two months have been a rebirth for me though and I am going to continue on with that today and start to rebirth my body with water fasting.
So, today, I'm starting a water fast. I will go 1 week and see how I feel, but my goal is to start doing 30-40 day fasts and then periods of juice feasting and raw in between. Been doing a ton of reading up on water fasting and I think this really resonates with me for healing, getting connected, etc.
Hope everyone is having a great day!

Did I miss something Lady Adonnenniel? Aren't you already fasting on water?
Today is going well for me... other than I'm feeling very bored. I'm grumpy and too grumpy to grab a book to read or to really relax. I've been up for hours now... could nap but I don't want to. Again... to grumpy to lay down.
Being around me would be a pleasure for anyone LOL Fortunately my hubby is out and my lovely daughter is busy... ahhhhh the pleasures of fasting. LOL
Other than that... I had a nice bath earlier and listened to Deva Premal. I didn't make it very warm and I didn't stay in long but I was still super dizzy when I got out. So I had to sit in the bathroom while I dried off etc.
Other than that... I feel fine. ;)

A beautiful day for me. Not fasting today but will be starting again Sunday. We took the day off and went to the mountains today. We aren't all that far from them so it makes a nice day trip each fall when we go take a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway and enjoy the beauty God has given us.
We stopped at a roadside market that we always like and got some produce and cider. We also bought a pumpkin on our way home from a church nearby that sells them every year to raise money for missions.
After we got home, we went to work clearing the woods and burning brush. When I say we live in the woods, I mean we really do live in the woods! It is very beautiful, though... It's like coming home to an oasis after a crazy day in the work world. But there are a lot of trees down and limbs down and DH has wanted to get a perimeter closest to the house all cleared out to make it look better and easier to walk when we are out there. He's already cleared a bunch, but there is plenty more! So, we were workhorses for about 2.5 hours after we got home but it is so nice to see it looking so much better. I guess that will be our winter project this year and with it getting cooler out, we won't have to be watching for snakes, wasps, etc. like we do now.
I took my measurements this morning and even though my weight is about the same as it was at the end of August, I have lost almost 4". All the HIIT and butt and thigh exercises are paying off! I felt good about that and even wore my very skinny jeans today and they fit good, felt good and looked good!

remember... muscle weighs more than fat! :)
sounds like a lovely day.
i have some slight cramps (period) and am feeling very light-headed when i get up too quickly so i'm making sure to get up slowly.
off to sip more water... i've read that water should not be consumed in large amounts on a water fast... just sips here and there. so that's what i'm doing. i'm pleased... because that's exactly what my body is asking for... so it feels much more natural than trying to force down litres of water. :D

A busy day, but not too bad. I've had pineapple/cucumber and watermelon juices.
Tonight I had my tomato/veggie blend.
Not sure what this fast holds, but we shall see. I looks like we are running out of produce and will not be getting more until Tuesday. Yes... I could water fast, but I'm not feeling it. I have such a busy week ahead still and don't really want to see if I can handle it or not ;)
But we're doing good for at least another day... so we'll take what we can!

Hold in there mama... so if you break your fast... do you have food to eat???
love ya... myyyyyy precious!

10-08-2010, 09:46 PM
I hear you.. I wish we lived closer too :cool: Not just for the juice either ;)
I have enough veggies to make salads and such for the whole family. I also have enough fruit for everyone to have a piece or two a day. If I were to juice my portion.. it would not be enough juice to keep me satisfied. I can eat mostly lettuce, but I wouldn't want to drink just lettuce juice :p
When I juice for my hubby and me, we can go through 2 pineapples, 4-6 cucumbers, 2 bellpeppers, 4 heads of romaine, 4=6 apples, 4 lemons, 12 tomatoes, one bunch of celery, 2 heads of cilantro, one red onion, 1/2 buld of garlic, a big pc. of ginger, and I think thats it for a day. Some days are more and that makes us about 3-4 qt. a day each.
If we weren't juicing that... it would feed our whole family of 8 for the day. So that is the problem.
But... we will keep on keeping on...

Hi all fasters!
Well wrapping up my first day water fast - things went well -not feeling too weak yet or anything. Drank lots of water as I was pretty thirsty today. Did a great 30 min yoga meditation.
Also did just a really short meditation on compassion for self. All you do is sit in a cross-legged yoga position, take a few regular breaths, then bring your awareness into compassion - and then try to give it to yourself.
(As the point is, we are usually compassionate with everyone but rarely give it to ourselves)
Everyone is doing so well!
~~~<3Hope tonight goes well for all of us<3~~~
nice meditation Lady Adonnenniel.
myyyy precious... i hear you on the fasting. it was so expensive when my hubby and i did it together. for some reason it doesn't seem as expensive when it's just me. not sure why???
well i'm water fasting but i have to tell you all... the people with knowledge on other forums are not forthcoming or all that friendly when it comes to newcomers. i'm so glad we aren't like that here. i've been told to go look for the info... or just plain IGNORED on other forums. i guess they don't like what i'm doing (water fasting forums don't view juice fasting as a fast. they consider it fruitarian, not fasting) so they take offence to me calling what i'm doing a fast.
oh well... i've seemed to get info regardless... and i have found a few people on a forum that are kind enough to gift me some time and answer my questions. ;) so that helps tremendously.
but... for all of us... remember... newcomers come here to get assistance... not to be ignored. not that we ever do that... but let's not forget that they are real people sitting at a computer just like we are. so let's be kind and helpful! :)
I don't know what I'm doing awake at this hour... I have a lot of energy considering I worked all day and have to start again bright and early. I feel kind of boring because I don't have much to say... I've just been working a lot. Not much new on the juice-front except that I'm also utilizing this time to meditate like some others are doing. Last night I took some time to do some slow relaxing yoga and worked with my angel oracle cards. It felt wonderful.
Even though I don't have much to say the past few days, I'm glad to have a place to check-in! :) Oh, and I'd like to say that I am one of those new-comers that very much appreciates the welcoming atmosphere on this forum. You all are a pleasure!
That saddens me that people in other forums are that inconsiderate. You are right that we should never be that way in this forum. It's all about helping one another to become better, healthier people. We need to always be supportive no matter what form of fasting it involves.
exactly miss... that's why telling people to go search stuff themselves shouldn't be our standard answer... i like to gift people links to the posts i'm referring to. it helps them tremendously and lowers their frustration. cause it's frustrating going to a new site and trying to get people to view you as a real person.
melly, i'm sooooo glad we have been welcoming in your mind... this is a good thing!
i am sooooooo out of it this morning. my vision is very blurred and carrying a thought is a huge challenge. if you knew how fast i type and how slow i am writing this response you would see a huge difference. i even have to rest my arms between sentences... so little energy this morning.
on the weight front... things are great. i began this water fast 7 pounds heavier than i am today and i have my period so i expect my weight to drop a bit more once that is over. i'm pleased. i'd love to get to my actual goal weight on this water fast and then simply maintain my weight for the duration of my juice fast. that would be lovely.
but i'm not attached to any particular outcome. i'm doing this for the experience. i am hoping for a deeper spiritual connection and some deep healing. for deep healing to happen... my body will experience some fatigue, and releasing... i just have to take things slow.
i have a feel my butt is going to get sore from this couch on this water fast though LOL
Good Morning Fasters...
Well... I used up the last of my tomatoes last night. It was sooooooo yummy!
I'm going to have some more juices this morning and then I'm done for little while. I'll be able to place a big produce order sometime next week, so I am just going to keep juicing when I can and then stop when I can't juice. I am going to use this time to really try to eat mostly raw in between. I so want to be mostly raw, but tend to hover most days around 50/50. So this is all a learning time for me with both raw and juicing.
Aleesha... I hope you get some strength back soon and that you have peace during this part of your journey.....myyyyy precious....
just checking in. day 2. these past 2 days have been a BREEZE compared to other fasts-and I haven't fasted in almost 2 years (I don't think...). I think the goal is to not think about it. LOL. I made a few gallons of watermelon juice this summer and have been drinking that. I'm attempting more of a juice feast, but I'm having trouble drinking 1/2 gallon of juice a day.
I took the kids out tonight to a restaurant and ordered a peppermint tea for myself and felt FINE about it. I honestly can say I have never enjoyed the ride so much before. Usually the first few days feel like TORMENT, but then I get into the swing of things.
I"m looking at the next 4-5 days of fasting. My friend wants to do 5 days, so that's the goal. But then it may only be a couple of days after breaking this fast before I start up again. In 2 wseks, I'll be recooping from an outpatient procedure and won't be able to do weight training exercise or much of any lifting for a week. That's probably another good week to just fast!
I do dread the blurry vision. I don't like that part.. especially when I have to be able to read numbers at work!
Today was a really nice day. We went to Cotton Ginning Days in a neighboring town. Every year it is a major event and soooo many people show up. It was fun and interesting and it was 83* and sunny... perfect weather, except it doesn't feel like fall when it's still so warm!
We moved a recliner from DH's aunt's house tonight (she passed away this summer) to DH's mom's. In the midst of carrying it into the house, the foot part popped out and nailed my leg just right! It's gonna be a lovely bruise! It is sore and swollen now, but could be worse. It's not enough to hinder me... I just feel it. Chilled out tonight, watched a movie, feel like a slug!
Aleesha Sattva
10-09-2010, 08:08 PM
arnica. if you take arnica it won't bruise or swell! keep some on hand for now on. :)
my movie was great. made food for the kids and now i'm back on the couch. my head is starting to get a little sore. it's 6pm here... hoping it passes soon.
i've done more water than other days... i was more thirsty right from when i woke up. i've read that while water fasting it's important to not drink large quantites... but to sip instead. so i'm doing that. my lips aren't as dry as they were.
water fasting is such an art... and yet so simple at the same time. you just simply stay away from everything and only allow the taste of water in your mouth and body... which means no chapstick, no toothpaste... no lick of a juice... nothing.
and... no tea.
but i'm doing really great. i'm hoping i can longer, get some deeeeeep healing done and have the benefit of releasing some more weight all at the same time. the weight isn't necessary but it is the icing on the cake! (cause there aren't many women who don't wanna release a few more pounds!)
oh and today i was asked by a fellow faster to do a video with him via skype. i said yes! i'll gift you all a link to it when it's done and online! i adore this guy... not sure if you've seen his stuff or if i shared it with you (i've researched and shared so much... i'm not sure what i've shared)
Cathy- Same thing for me... When I am fasting, I want food but when I am eating, I want to fast! :D I guess it's a case of "The grass is always greener".
I woke up feeling discontented this morning. I had night sweats pretty bad last night. That still isn't normal for me to feel like that when I get up. It use to be how I was every day and I'd wake up feeling like a trainwreck but the past several months have brought major changes for me. This morning I just felt like nothing was working right in my body... My thyroid and digestion especially. I don't like feeling discontented. I have so much to feel good about! I finally got a grip and I prayed and did my Judeo-Christian meditation and am feeling better balanced again. I will go make some yummy juice soon and then I will feel even better!
remember when you feel 'off' on a fast... it's because your body is going there to rebuild it in a healthier way. so it's actually a good thing.
i'm not sure how long you have to wait between 40 day fasts... but i'll go find out!
i slept (if you can call it that) horrid last night. today i have to cook thanksgiving dinner for the family. this has been one of my 'not looking forward to' days of my fast but i think i'll be fine. i'm doing great when it comes to smells... and with water fasting there is no urge to put anything of taste in my mouth cause i don't want to start my digestion or slow ketosis.
so my hubby and i will get started in a few hours and be cooking all day.
love you ALL!!!
People who tell me that what I'm doing is wrong and then I find out that they are total hypocrites reallllly ticks me off. Remember how I told you I went to a forum to ask about water fasting and was told that what I'm doing is not fasting (juice fasting)... well it turns out that the same guy said in another thread (in the archives of the site) that he does 40 day orange juice fasts. Yup those are the words he used! So his is a fast and mine is not? Oh man... I wanna slap him!
But instead... I'll send him Light and love... because to be so judgemental and militant must take a tremendous amount of energy. To judge others for he does himself... what a state of confusion his soul must be in over this... (((hugs))) poor man.
Good morning fellow Fasters!
Aleesha - I found the answer to the question on how many days between fasts: you are supposed to refeed for the same # of days you fast.
Still going on water fast here - had the itchies a bit last night and smells are a little more powerful now. And I have definitely been through the hunger phases of early days, but I hear that goes away soon. Actually did some drawing yesterday though (a pretty unicorn) - was really happy about that.
missyc - sorry to hear you are having probs this morning.
Well wishes for everyone today! (and Happy Thanksgiving to my neighbors above!)
ah good to know about the amount of days between fasts. ;) i'll let you know if i get a different answer (i did ask at the forum i mentioned i've been getting info from)
cool - thank you!
I used to be a member of one of the water fasting places - the forum isn't very active anymore - kinda sad. They weren't too active or helpful while I was there either. It's way different here - everyone is so friendly and way more active.
Still having some struggles today. I just feel like crying. Maybe because tomorrow is 1 month since Dad passed and it's on my mind.
DH talked to me. He knows how intense I can get and how wrapped up I am with the fasting. He thinks I need to give it a rest and maybe just stick with 24 hour fasts and have small dinners for a while until I am strong enough to deal with going longer. I tend to agree that he's right even though part of me wants to keep going. I guess it's an "escape" for me in some ways to put so much into fasting. And maybe that's not what I need to be doing right now. Maybe I need to face whatever it is I'm trying to escape from.
it is entirely up to you. you are the only one who truly knows what you need. i know that for me... fasting through grief has greatly assisted me. when my friend committed suicide and then my mom passed a few months later... it's what really grounded me and kept me sane. but that's me and that doesn't mean it'll do the same for you.
also please remember... anniversaries are huge to your energetic body. huge. so of course you are feeling extreme sadness... if you weren't i'd be concerned.
all i can really do is wrap you in the wings of angels and hope that my love comforts you. (((wrapping and sending love)))
Hugs MissyC It's ok to feel sad. Good for your healing process. Allow the grief to come. Time is everything and you will resolve your sadness. In the meantime get hugs everyday.
I am doing will with 20/4 fasting. I feel this is doable for me long term and it's what I need right now. Most importantly I am not binging or failing. Am keeping it raw. :-)
Still doing a water fast today and it was the perfect day to curl up on the couch with a blanket and a good book. Today turned out to be a very enjoyable, quiet, and peaceful day. The nice thing about today fast that it actually helped me enjoy the quietness of it all! Usually, I feel like I have to be busy doing something. It was just what I needed. :)
Oh and right now, my body is wanting something so I'll just have to see how I do for the rest of the evening. I think that I'm make it on water. I'll post tomorrow about how that goes. :)
Lady Awen ~ Hope you're having a really nice day with your family giving thanks! ;)
trust me lady winday... you have to push through the evening to stay on water. it won't happen naturally (until you are into your water fast and then hunger is fully asleep) and you are only fasting one day so that won't happen. you have to choose. either choice is the right choice for you... but you need to choose.
what is a 20/4 fast???
i just got up from a nap. i'm making a commitment to my Self to nap 30 minutes a day from now on during this water fast. my body needs it.
my day has been lovely. i love teaching my daughter to prepare food - it's such a blessing. (((hugs)))
My afternoon went quite well. I talked to my mom on the phone (w/ bluetooth) while I worked out in the woods cleaning up limbs and we got them hauled to the fire to burn. I seem to do best when I feel bad if I get busy and do things that get my body working. While my body works, my mind seems to get in a groove where it is easier to deal with the emotions I'm feeling.
I ended up with scratches all over my legs and arms and DH said I probably don't want to think about wearing any dresses for a couple of days at least! lol... Then I came inside to use the sauna. Usually I sit up in the sauna but today I felt like I just needed to lay down, so I did... And it was good and I did my deep breathing and now I feel much better. I still think I'll stick with 24 hour fasts until I'm ready to concentrate on longer. Lately my fasting days have been hitting me more emotionally, which may not be bad in some ways, but when I have to work and can't afford to be breaking down with the job I do, I will just wait until I feel strong enough to work thru those emotions without completely breaking down. It may be next week or the week after, but I'm sure it will happen and I'll be ready for it when it does.
(((group hug))) Thanks again, everyone! You are a great bunch of people!
You make my heart feel good.
well my heartburn was so severe tonight i thought i was going to vomit. i had the juice of one young coconut and could only drink half cause my tummy was too full. and this coconut had barely any water in it. amazing how tiny our tummies because when we aren't filling them.
so... if i have heartburn tomorrow night i'm going to break this water portion of my fast. if i don't (which i don't think i will) then i'll continue to take it day by day. i have absolutely no goal for this fast at this time. none. i have no expectations. i simply am sitting and waiting ... with great patience for the day i will enjoy fresh raw live juice again. no rush... none at all. i know my juices will still be there... waiting... when i am done this leg of my journey.
Thanks for the additional hugs and thoughts. I'm fortunate to have had my dad as long as I did. In some ways, losing a husband was harder than my dad, but in other ways, it was harder to lose my dad. None of it is easy, but I'm not the only one to go through it, either.
I feel a bit better this morning. I'm even thinking that I may be able to make it through today fasting. Once I get to work and get busy, it should get easier.
Lady Awen ~ You did it, baby!!! High fives, down low, on the side, oh right!!!
Missy ~ Losing anyone isn't easy. What have always help me to get through it in the past, since I do believe in Angels is that I imagine them learning how to be an angel and growing their wings. That always makes me feel better. :)
Well, I got through it on a water fast yesterday and it was so well worth it!!
I was hungry all evening and went to bed hungry and just kept telling my digestion system that it deserves a break. I could tell that my body was taking full advantage of this break!!! :) And I've decided to fast again on water next week. :)
And some of the stuff that I've read from this book, Build a Powerful Nerve Force by Bragg, is what I needed to read yesterday. Here's a quote that I like, "Building a strong mind builds a strong body!" And here's a list I like!!
Take Time for 12 Things
1) Take time to work ~ it's the price of sucess.
2) Take time to think ~ it's the source of power.
3) Take time to play ~ it's the secret of youth.
4) Take time to read ~ it's the foundation of knowledge.
5) Take time to worship/meditate ~ it's the highway of reverence and washes the dust of Earth from our eyes.
6) Take the time to help and enjoy friends ~ it's the source of happiness.
7) Take time to love ~ it is the one sacrament of life.
8) Take time to dream ~ it hitches the soul to the stars.
9) Take time to laugh ~ it is the singing that helps life loads.
10) Take time for beauty ~ it is everywhere in nature.
11) Take time for health ~ it is true wealth and treasure for life.
12) Take time to plan ~ it is the secret of being able to have time for the first 11 things,
Enjoy today!!!! ~ Lady Winday ~
Gooooooooooooooooooood morning everyone! *does a happy little skip around the room* I feel amazing this morning. Probably the energy from that cup of young coconut water I had last night.
My heartburn did not stop from drinking it... it kept up through the night. Ugh. But it's gone noooooooooooow!!!
I'm in for another fun filled day of water. Oh ya. I think I'll have a sip of water *stops to sip* and then in another 20 minutes I think I'll do it again!
I'm hoping to get some movement in today... not sure what... but I'm hoping to do something. hahahaha So pathetic sounding eh? But when you are water fasting... movement isn't really something you can do much of. Like I wouldn't go for a walk cause I might not make it home again. I could go alone and take my cell and call my hubby if I need to get picked up... hey that's a thought. Perhaps I'll do that if the rain holds itself back today!
Hello again everyone,
I am back to do what I should have done the first time. However, that’s the past and I am so ready to focus on the now. Below are just a few of my goals. I will continue to expand on them as they come to me.
1. To juice fast for 28 days
2. To give my body the best nutrients that I can during the duration of my fast
3. To remember that any type of deviation from my juice fast is not an option for me
4. To accomplish my fasting journey in honor of my mother’s one year anniversary with the creator
5. To make this my most memorable and rewarding fast ever
6. To achieve my best body ever mentally and physically
7. To actually enjoy the process of fasting rather than constantly thinking about the end date
Glad to see everyone still hanging in there.
I just got home from a walk. Yup... I went for walk! I took my cell phone and called my hubby when I was done so he could come and pick me up. I couldn't make it the entire way but what I did I enjoyed tremendously. Walking on the country roads, surrounded by red, orange and yellow leaves... the sun drenching the ground with such kindness. It was bliss!
I think I'll take a sip of water!
What a beautiful day in our little corner of the fasting world!
Freedom- Those are very good goals!
Aleesha- I am glad you were able to get out of the house for a bit and have your day brightened by the beautiful colors!
I have fasted today. In fact, I made a resolution and asked DH to make me stick to it even if I try to change my mind later! Changing my mind is not an option! I will fast 4 days this week, 4 days next week and 4 days the following week... And then it will be November and I will make a new resolution then. But for now, I just want to get thru this month and stick to 4 days a week fasting. My friend ended up not fasting today, but she did still drink her juice like a good girl! We were pretty busy so I didn't get to ask if she was going to fast tomorrow or not.
Tonight I made my juice, took trash up our long driveway to be picked up in the morning and then we headed out to the woods to clean some more brush and limbs and move them to piles so we can take them to the burn pile later to burn. We worked till it got too dark to see clearly. Now we are inside relaxing.
My mom had a pretty good day today and kept busy so she wasn't too caught up in the emotions of the day. I'm glad I had to work and that it was as busy as it was. Every time I started feeling sad, I just directed my thinking back to my fasting goals.
miss,
may i make a suggestion?
when we fast for four days it take two days to break our fast in a healthy manner, then we eat for two and fast again. this isn't very good on our digestion. it's healthier to fast on mon, wed and fri each week. giving our body a two day break over the weekend.
the reason this works better is our digestion gets to rest... but we don't have to break our fast beyond breakfast (soft fruits) and then we can eat normally. it's much easier on our body and very healthy.
i'm not telling you what to do... but if you do want to fast four days... how about giving your body a bit more time in between? perhaps 6 days? so you break for 2, eat normally for 4 and then fast for 4.
~~~
i'm still doing great. i feel amazing. my mind is clear, my energy is high and i'm ready, willing and able to do another day on water. even got new filters for the brita today... so i am good to go!

okay... water fasts suck. that is my personal opinion. i had a great day today but now... with the smells in the house from supper... i feel like crap.
if i could be somewhere that food smells do not exist... i'd be great, but alas... i can't stop everyone here from eating simply because i'm water fasting.
i'm going to keep trying to water fast... tomorrow is a new day.

Hey all! :D
Just wanted to check in to say that I decided to end my fast today. I went for 5 days and stopping this morning felt natural. I do intend to fast as much as I can, and am hoping to do something like Aleesha suggested. Fasting Mon, Weds, Fri... I'm still working out the details. I don't think this will be a problem for me since usually I am so distracted by work or other things on the first day that I don't really "notice" that I'm drinking my nutrition instead of chewing it. Plus I think it would keep me in check, because whenever I drink lots of juice I gravitate more toward healthy and whole raw foods.
Aleesha, I have to give you props for going that long on water. I know people do longer water fasts, but not usually in the middle of such a long juice fast. You are the perfect example of setting your mind and soul to something and forging forward!
Missy, I wish you all the strength you need to get through these rough times. I lost my father when I was 16 (I'm 23 now) and to this day I still get very emotional around the anniversary of his passing. But I agree with what aleesha said, and I think that if I had known about fasting in previous years I would have utilized it during those times, because I feel more grounded and in touch with my emotions. You seem to be getting a good handle on what you should do for you, though. That is what's really important <3
I think this is the most time I have had to write anything on here since I started in the fasting thread and now I've ended my fast :rolleyes: I will be back though, and probably sooner than I think!
Everyone - keep up the good work :D

[QUOTE=missyc;629299]What a cool day in this little fasting world of ours!
I see things in myself... How "controlled" I can be by food when I am not fasting, yet how disciplined I can be at not having food when I am fasting. It's like I have this switch that I can toggle back and forth from one to the other...
Hi dear Fasters. I spent a good part of the day reading everyone's October posts re your various fasts.
I am just like you above, missyc - quite under control after about 3-5 days of water only. I had actually forgotten that I did a fast on water alone for 10 days a while back - it was here in one of my blogs, so I must have done it. But I can't remember much about it except that it was not hard. Obviously, it didn't do much for my short-term memory though.
I am also so excited about what you are doing Aleesha and have decided that I am in the mood to do another water fast beginning tomorrow. I drank mostly water today too but that wasn't all I put in my mouth so I am going to start officially, in all seriousness, tomorrow. I am so looking forward to this. If I was able to do 10 days before, then my goal will be to pass that this time and then see where it takes me after that.
I am pretty tired - waited for my husband to go to bed as he often watches over my shoulder to see what I am writing - makes me uncomfortable. But I wanted to tell you Aleesha that I really appreciate all the research on water fasting that you included here - the information about protein etc. - all the goodies that we have stored in our fat. I still have quite a bit of that stuff hanging around so I should be able to fast for a while. I'll talk more about my goals tomorrow.:D

10-11-2010, 10:06 PM
Cathy :D
Now you sound just like me GoodCat. I am so glad to be here with you fasters.

isle, i find water fasting so difficult... so difficult. i would love to do an extended fast... but honestly... i don't know if i can do it. i admire you for doing 10 days. good for you.
lady aredhel, the reasons that smells bother me isn't because of the smells... it's because it causes heartburn. the smells tell the brain that there is food coming - so it signals the tummy to get the digestive juices flowing... and when no food arrives... we have heartburn! i find that it takes awhile for the heartburn... but it happens every time. :(
anyway... i'm so glad to read so many posts from everyone and to see some have completed and others have begun. congrats to you all!!!

I am having a hard time getting in 4 liters of juice per day (let alone the 5-6 that I thought I'd be drinking). Much to my surprise, my taste for my regular dark green juices has disappeared--I have a lot of watercress, cilantro, etc in the fridge that's about to be thrown out as I haven't been able to tolerate it all week. Instead I've been into much milder and sweeter juices--even all fruit juices, which I rarely am interested in.
*Everything that I've ever eaten has sounded like a good idea to me at some point over the past week! I've passed on a couple of dinner invites as I don't think it would be pleasant.
Physically things have been ok, no big detox. (Still waiting for my skin to clear up!) Emotionally I have felt pretty good many of the days, although a lot of intense anxiety today.

GoodCat, what a fab price on your coconuts! I love them too - I remember how excited I was to see a whole bunch of them in our tiny Asian grocery store here in our small town. I pay $2 each.
RawkinM - aw, that's tough that you had a bad night. Tonight should be much better for you.:)
I think there is another girl here doing a water fast - RawMum or RawMom? How long are you aiming for?
whoa-raw - I love what you said "feeling closer to who I am after fasting". I love the freedom it gives me.
Hope you all have a fine day and I will see you all back here in our "liquid lounge" later.

Morning all, just a quick check in on Day One! Finished my first liter of h2o and one to canteloupe juice. Came down with something yesterday and spent most of last night sweating and freezing. Finishing up some work that can't be NOT DONE today then on my way home to rest. I am determined not to let this illness deter me from my fast! OR - maybe because of all the prep work I did over the long weekend, my body started detoxing early :o)

Good Morning everyone,
Just checking in on day 1 of my fast. This morning I had 16 oz of romaine lettuce, parsley, apple, and pineapple juice to which I added a ½ tsp of MSM. I’ve never taken any health supplements before. However, I’ve been doing some research trying to figure out which ones are actually beneficial while fasting. My plan is to give myself the best nutrition I can and see what happens. Hopefully my first 3 days will go ok. I just want to get through it actually. If anyone is familiar with these and know of any reason why they should not be included as part of juice fasting then please let me know:
• MSM : http://images.netrition.com/images/id_watermark_jpg/153-0003.jpg
• Royal Jelly : http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41YKH7AWK7L.jpg
• Raw Super Green: http://win-edge.com/assets/images/content/PerfectFood_groupphoto.jpg
• Cinnamon Extract liquid (to add to juice for taste)
Aleesha, you’ve done great with water fasting. You are definitely the mother of fasting. I must admit though that you have me so curious about water fasting. It’s hard for me to imagine that I might not be able to go outside and walk 6 miles on just water. It’s only hard for me to imagine because of the miles I’ve run on juice fasting. I hope I get a chance to experience it this time around.
Missyc, “changing my mind is not an option”… I feel you. We can just repeat this to ourselves in unison because I feel the same way.
GoodCat, one of my co workers found me some Thai coconuts for .99 each also. I am so excited. I love the way they taste and the way they make me feel.
RawkinM, I am enjoying your posts. What day are you on?
Whoa-raw, your statement definitely resonates with me. I have been on my spiritual journey for several years now. What I know for sure is it matters what I put into my body. It’s been great learning how to stay in the present moment more often and seeing myself beyond just my physical form. OK, didn’t mean to start down a deep path:).
Islesgirl, I hope you will share each day experience of your water fast. I am fascinated by each person’s experience with water… Maybe because I’ve never attempted it before and I want to have some idea of what I could potentially experience even though everyone is different.
Shine, so we are both on Day 1? I was hoping to have someone who is on the same day as myself.

Yep, yep! I am on Day 1 :)
Finishing up my cantaloupe juice (my favorite thing) and looking forward to a more savory "lunch" juice of tomato, romaine (don't like it so much as it was free and organic), beet and apple (this might not boad for the best experience but it'll taste good and clean me out!! :D)
Been debating on the merit of starting slowly with juice and smoothies then going deeper with just juice then coming out slowly with juice and smoothies. Any suggestions? Breaking a fast is THE HARDEST for me and I always end up going for something fatty and high calorie so I am thinking waves might get me There and Back Again "more betterer".... :)

rawkin, well the health benefits are not the same... but they are still super dooper high! water is much more detoxing and much more health bringing. 30% more at least! they say that 10 days on water is equal to 30 days on juice.
miss, you absolutely made my day. "curled up in a ball sucking your thumb"... that was priceless! my hubby and i had a huge talk yesterday and again last night and we've decided together that i'm fasting on water for 21 days. so... here goes. today is day 8.
i may need a soother before i'm done LOL
zinny, there is no should. you need at least 2 litres of juice... everything else is extra!
zap, that is called water weight my friend. you are retaining water. increase the amount of water you drink and it'll go down (or not). after i water fasted last time i gained 5 pounds and it stayed with me until this water fast! i was totally shocked... but i've gained weight during other fasts as well. our bodies do know what they are doing... and they don't care about a scale! try weighing yourself once a week instead. (((hugs)))
shine, if you are sick... fasting will increase the healing so you won't be sick as long as you may have been. so yup... fasting will def help!
isle, welcome back!
freedom, nothing wrong with those. may i suggest adding in some cayenne as well. it speeds up your metabolism and cleans your blood!

whew... okay now that i've caught up with everyone.
i want to show you the difference between water fasting, juice fasting and doing water all day and then a tiny bit of juice in the evening.
when i juice fast i seldom release weight after day 20.
when i water fast i release 1-2 pounds per day
i had one cup of young coconut water the other night, then the next morning i went for a walk, spent the day out with lots of walking... did a heap of things... released no weight!!!
my body lived on that young coconut for energy all day long!
so there you have it. amazing eh?
as i said in the post above... i'm doing this for 21 days. i need a goal. it works well for me. sitting here wondering if i'll continue feels insecure and i like to feel more grounded. so... it is said, and it is decided. 21 days it is!

Shine, I think you are the second person raving about the Cantaloupe juice. I am going to have to try it. However, your tomato and romaine sounds more appealing to me. I love tomato juice. How long are you planning to fast?
Aleesha, thanks for checking out my list of supplements. I will definitely add cayenne... thanks for the suggestion. You are doing 21 days of water fasting? OMG, I am trying to do 28 days of juice and here you are on 8 days of water. You go girl!!!!!!!!!! My hats off to you Aleesha. Not just for the number of days (althought that's mind blowing) but because you are considering your body, mind, and spirit throughout this journey.

My body, mind and Spirit are always first... always. My life is second. I can work my life around my fasting in order to gift myself the best I can.
Tumeric is another good spice to ingest while fasting. Can't remember why but it is. Hence why I add curry to my tom juice.
I am the cantaloupe LOVER!!! It's amazing. I always add water cause it's a little thick otherwise, esp if it sits for any length of time.
Bee pollen is another supplement you can add if you choose.
Spirulina, chlorella... all good healthy choices.

itchy rash on belly
dry skin
excessive thirst, despite drinking over 1.5 gallons for liquid (water, tea, juice)
CRANKINESS.:eek:

Here are 20 reasons to add turmeric to your diet:
1. It is a natural antiseptic and antibacterial agent, useful in disinfecting cuts and burns.
2. When combined with cauliflower, it has shown to prevent prostate cancer and stop the growth of existing prostate cancer.
3. Prevented breast cancer from spreading to the lungs in mice.
4. May prevent melanoma and cause existing melanoma cells to commit suicide.
5. Reduces the risk of childhood leukemia.
6. Is a natural liver detoxifier.
7. May prevent and slow the progression of Alzheimer's disease by removing amyloyd plaque buildup in the brain.
8. May prevent metastases from occurring in many different forms of cancer.
9. It is a potent natural anti-inflammatory that works as well as many anti-inflammatory drugs but without the side effects.
10. Has shown promise in slowing the progression of multiple sclerosis in mice.
11. Is a natural painkiller and cox-2 inhibitor.
12. May aid in fat metabolism and help in weight management.
13. Has long been used in Chinese medicine as a treatment for depression.
14. Because of its anti-inflammatory properties, it is a natural treatment for arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
15. Boosts the effects of chemo drug paclitaxel and reduces its side effects.
16. Promising studies are underway on the effects of turmeric on pancreatic cancer.
17. Studies are ongoing in the positive effects of turmeric on multiple myeloma.
18. Has been shown to stop the growth of new blood vessels in tumors.
19. Speeds up wound healing and assists in remodeling of damaged skin.
20. May help in the treatment of psoriasis and other inflammatory skin conditions.
Turmeric can be taken in powder or pill form. It is available in pill form in most health food stores, usually in 250-500mg capsules.
Once you start using turmeric on a regular basis, it's fun to find new ways to use it in recipes. My favorite way to use it is to add a pinch of it to egg salad. It adds a nice flavor and gives the egg salad a rich yellow hue.
Contraindications: Turmeric should not be used by people with gallstones or bile obstruction. Though turmeric is often used by pregnant women, it is important to consult with a doctor before doing so as turmeric can be a uterine stimulant.

try a detox bath. go to the health food store and get some green clay. it's a powder and not expensive. if you can't get green get red or whatever they have.
go home, start a bath... put in about 1/2 cup of clay and some himalayan salt (or epsom salts) and some aromatherapy (i like cinnamon)
light a candle and relax. don't stay in longer than 20-30 minutes as this is very detoxing. make it nice and warm but not hot. you should never have a hot bath when fasting. it's too hard on your heart!!!
