im on my third week raw now... and i must say i feel weak. not in a sick or bad way but i dont feel as strong as i felt with a vegan cooked diet.

right now i dont feel any kind of addiction to anything in particular, but my body tells me it can really use some rice.

maybe i dont know where to get that kind of nutrient in the raw world, so you guys can give me a hand.

i eat plenty of dried fruit, nuts, sprouts, green juices, fruits, but somehow i feel that something is missing.

thank you!

Download cronometer http://spaz.ca/cronometer/
or fitday.com and put your food in for a few days. It will tell you if you are short of anything including calories.
I think that I know that feeling that you have. I find that greens take it away for me.

There are cases when the body tells you it needs something, like in fructose malabsorption, after consuming fructose, it craves "safe" foods, such as bread and rice. It may have to do with your sugar levels, who knows. Eat it if your body tells you you need it. There are other things, sometimes craving rice can be a proof that you have some stomach issue, unfortunately I forgot what that was, bacterial infection or something of the kind. So it's not all detox or addiction. Your body really tells you what it wants sometimes, and sometimes you have to listen. If it wanted French fries, I'd say pass it. But your body will not crave fries, your mind will want them. You have to make the difference.

My body used to play "tricks" on my mind in desperate attempts to get me back to eating something cooked. It wasn't about the nutrients at all. :)

The time that I realised that it was not about the nutrients was when I realised that just a bite would do.
If it was about the nutrients I would need more than a bite.

ide try sprouting buckwheat / hullless oats / rye to replace heavy rice

buckwheats super fast , just soak 4 hours then let sit another 8 while rinsing here and there then its good for a few days . rinse every several hours

rye i just soak while changing water every twelve hours for 2 days then its ready to eat

hullless oats i get from sun organic farms in california on line

Maybe sprouting barley will do the trick? You need to use unhulled. Admittedly, I've never tried this, but I just found some barley sprouting in the lentils. They must have gotten mixed in and I will know tonight how they taste!

you'll get through it! i promise!

sometimes our bodies are simply putting energy into healing and detox. that's a GOOD thing!

that may not be the case with you... but as long as you are eating enough and taking care of yourself otherwise... it's pretty likely.

i've been raw for almost 4 years... and my energy levels are THROUGH THE ROOF, have been for some time. i can't go back... i don't know how people do it when they are not raw and are tired! yikes!!

good luck to you!

Don't ask me why, but when i would crave badly for rice, i would eat a fresh sweet red pepper and the craving would go away.

I did gave into do cook rice and it didn't do any good except to drop my energy level and cause more cravings.

Hold on with the raw food. I agree that the mind loves to play trick. It is fall time, perhaps your body wants you to gain weight for the winter. Pumkin, squash has great contain of potassium that will keep you warm.

Hang in there, you will find what is best for you.

after 3 days of watching the cronometer... i find that i almost never fullfill the daily requirement for calories and protein.

how can i get more of those? (especially calories, which i believe is the center of this problem)

thank you for all replys, i will stick with it ;)

What are your targets for protein and for calories and how much are you missing it by.
I have a problem making my calorie target myself. I have just eaten some dates to try to boust today's count.
Put 3 or 4 bananas in water in the blender and do a quick smoothie (works well with frozen bananas).
Make "dateraid" by putting dates and water in the blender.

i wasnt too sure about targets, right now im on 1700 cal / day and about 35g protein.

i had some sprouted quinoa and some soaked buckwheat and i must say, that covered the hole i was missing. like feeling really down to earth.

It really is just a physiological need you aren't meeting if you are craving rice. Basically craving rice = the body needing more glucose. The best source is from fruit. I eat around 3000 calories from fruit a day, that's about 30 bananas a day, trust me you won't feel like rice after eating that much! But you will have great energy levels, clear skin and balanced weight :)

Is it hard to get 35 grams of protein from 1700 calories. I aim for 30 grams as I have read that this is sufficient and I target 2000 calories (just upped it from 1900 a few days ago).
I think that you should up your calories as well. I am only 5 ft 2 and 110 lbs. You are probably taller.

Not enough carbohydrates(fuel). Protein requirements are easy to meet.

Try sprouting brown rice and lentils(organic only). You can eat them raw when they have sprouted.

Calculate your daily carbohydrates with the Carbohydrates Calculator (http://www.healthcalculators.org/calculators/carbohydrate.asp).

My daily carbs are 400 grams. Male standing at 5'11" and weighing in at 150 pounds. Medium Frame.

Experiencing abundant vitality is not as food dependent as all the food-centric types want to believe. Get off your ass and start exercising with an emphasis on aerobics and strength training. After a few weeks you will have an answer to your woes that won't have you searching for that magic food item. 'Exercise is King...food is Queen'.
Also get as much sleep as you can, that time is where your energy reserves are built.

but i dont feel as strong as i felt with a vegan cooked diet.

I occasionally crave pepperoni..but it is for the spices!

With how I feel, I typical have a long lasting "afterglow" feeling when I am eating raw. I never got a runner's high but I do feel that frequency changes when I do raw.

I have to admit that I would find 3000 calories a difficult target, I could do it but it would be hard,

Yep, after a long time with no grains, I'm back to sprouting grains- just buckwheat millet and quinoa and feel really great eating them again. It's a nice break from fruit and kind on my budget. I feel calm and strong eating them and my digestion is doing great with them. I'm still more centered on the fruit but the variety is doing me good. I'm glad I experimented and went without them for a long time to see if it's true that grains are like glass on the intestines- not true for me.
