I'm thinking about buying an excalibur. Not sure which model yet but it'll be a 4-5 tray.

Does the fan take care of flies landing on the trays? I know they're just flies but I just don't like the idea of something that could have been sitting in sh*t, sitting on my food!

If you like you could get a large piece of cheesecloth and cover the entire thing while you have food in it.

I've never had the issue.

I do have a bit of a thing about flies as well. Always had. I like to think that my food is clean.

This probably wont allay your concerns any yet, I've read that every time they land they do what you say they sit on.

I've never seen any flies around my Excalibur. But, even if there were flies in the kitchen, I don't think they'd go to the food on the trays with the air blowing across them.

At our Costco, if the fruit flies get bad - they bring in fans and have it blowing on the fruit to keep the flies off. I'd imagine it would be the same for regular flies as well.

My SIL used to say that every time a fly lands on something it vomits. Maybe that's not as bad? (wink wink) *Ü*

I was told that is school but it only applied to the bowl of sugar on the table. They eat so much sugar that they vomit.
I always covered my sugar bowl.

Guess that would depend on what it's been eating ~ or, using as a plate to eat off of. *wrinkles nose* :)

I've never seen a fruit fly anywhere near the Excalibur. I don't have a timer model, so I take the food out of it immediately after turning it off, don't leave unwashed trays or screens in it, and wipe it out after using.

lol

i figured the fan would get them. i dunno, i just didn't want to buy this $200 thing and then have fly problems. it's why i haven't bought one yet actually cuz we just had tons this summer. i'm sure it will be fine though. thanks!

Check on Craig's List for one b4 your purchase. I bought mine last month. I found someone on the other side of the country selling a 9 tray barely used for 100.00!! With shipping it was 130.00!!

margoss, that's a great bargain! i think craigslist for my city is practically nonexistent though hah. thankfully i'll only need a 5 tray. i'd go with the 4 but i saw bad reviews plus i want the timer model
