Hello Everyone,
Now that fall is upon us I was just wondering what recipes everyone tends to favour in the cooler weather:). This is going to be my first fall/winter as a raw foodist:D and I am starting to crave the cooked things that come with fall:o

I started my raw journey in the winter, so I've got soon accustomed to it. (: Though while most people stay start in summer, if you're someone who doesn't give in easily like me winter's better because you get used to the more difficult times faster and then feel like heaven in summer with all the more fruit options. ;D

But, back to topic, here's a list of some incoming crops (though the list I found didn't include many leafy greens, there are a lot which grow well this time of year such as collard and chard):
October
sweet potatoes
pumpkins
winter squash
broccoli
spinach lettuce
cranberries
apples
pomegranates
grapes

November
pumpkins
winter squash
sweet potatoes
broccoli
mushrooms
spinach
cranberries
oranges
tangerines
pears
pomegranates

December
sweet potatoes
mushrooms
broccoli
cauliflower
pears
oranges
grapefruit
tangerines
papayas
pomegranates

January
cabbages
leeks
broccoli
cauliflower
oranges
grapefruit
tangerines
tangelos
lemons
papayas

February
broccoli
cauliflower
oranges
grapefruits
lemons
papayas

I'd say go for some nice thick soups. Try finding recipes where you just throw a bunch of veggies (don't forget your greens! :p) right into the blender. Then, if you like stew-y soup, add some chopped veggies into it. Or, just ad lib with whatever you have on hand. There is a creative art to blended soups.

With cabbage you can shred mash in avocado then add any other fixings or seasonings you'd like for instant salad.

Cauliflower's good for making soups as well as dehydrated "popcorn" (banana search it~). Kale/collard chips are easy and fun, too! Make a movie marathon night with these as snacks. ;D

Orange juice. <3 Perfect plain, blended with spinach and strained for green juice (thanks JHB!), or in a smoothie. Fruit stew is also yummy: make a fruit salad then add orange juice or a smoothie as a liquid.

Apples = applesauce in my book. Blend sweet apples with a dash of stevia (or a few pieces of your choice of dried fruit). Violia! <3 Flavor variations: cinnamon, ginger, orange, etc. Add a handful of spinach or parsley to green it up!

If you do choose to eat mushrooms (some peeps don't I've seen), stuff 'em or marinate them! (Or both ) Chop 'em into salads plain, even, or use them to make a creamy soup.

Yams, cauliflower, butternut squash, turnips, kohlrabi... I see rice. Food process then add favorite seasonings and mix-ins. Spanish rice is my favorite (banana search it C; ).

Don't forget other basic things, like collard/lettuce wraps and avocado spinach dips. Remember, recipes don't need to be exact! Have fun, and invent new things! I find new things I like to do with raw food all the time that I haven't seen anywhere else (and I'm no culinary expert, that's for sure). (:

If you have a dehydrator, then all kinds of warm foods are possible. Select a few vegetables, chop them up and let marinade for 2 / 3 hours. What works best for me, is to make a basic marinade of olive oil and salt / nomu / liquid amino's / tamari and let sit. Dehydrate for 2-4 hours then immediately out the dehydrator eat as is or use these veggies as the base for a curry / stew etc.

Just blend up a curry sauce (or any flavoured sauce you want) and when the veggies come out the D, throw the sauce over and stir it through. The slightly dehydrated veggies will suck the sauce up and get real flavourful. It helps to keep a large dish warm in the oven to mix the sauce & veggies in.

a really great website for seasonal food is www.eattheseasons.com it has a UK site too, just look at the top of the page to switch between UK and US.

It has great articles for some of the listed foods giving history, biology and nutritional information

I made a batch of Alissa's chili today. Taking it to a potluck ... hope there is some left over to bring home. It is a perfect cool weather dish.
