I finally got round to buying some raw cacao, (i'd still been using regualar cocoa powder up untill now) and i'm not particularly impressed. it's tastes odd, tangy and kind of fruity, not the delicious deep rich flavour of ordinary cocoa. is this normal for raw cacao? did anyone else find it to be an aquired taste?

I think you may have carob ;)
I've just bought some for the first time, rather than just going with cacao like I usually do. Tastes great blended with frozen bananas, stevia/dates, and just a bit of tahini.

If you do not have a taste for it then why not skip it. I did like it but have weaned myself off it.

What are you mixing it with, if anything? By itself? *shrugs* Many enjoy it. I don't and I don't eat anything I have to "acquire a taste for". There are so many other foods that taste good to me. I don't like its effects either which is why I used carob when making anything with a chocolatey taste.

This is what truly raw cacao is unprocessed. By itself it's bitter so you need to add a lot of something sweet to balance it out like fruit and/or sweetener. When you add the right ingredients, you can make desserts as tasty as SAD. To me they're even better.

I prefer 100% raw cacao. Some people don't like it compared to other "raw" cacaos (that are actually heated up to 200 degrees during processing). Truly raw cacao has a distinct mocha flavor.

sprouted cacao.. now that's something I'd like to try. Of course since i like my sprouts small because I like it to retain much of the bean properties.

When I tried cacao nibs, I would mix it with goji berries and seed milk. Delicious...

i know exactly what you mean. raw cacao tastes lighter and do you notice that heated cocoa makes you feel more drugged than raw?

Maca + Cacao = Bomb! You can add pinapple to raw chocolate smoothies for flavor, and yes, dates!
