Before raw I was going through cycles of hypmania and sever depression. Each winter I got "SAD" seasonal affective disorder and the bipolar to 10x worse cycling multiple times a day. Once I tried raw for a week during the winter and my depression lifted, hypomania or even mania did NOT set in and I was at a normal, calm, happy feeling. I didn't realize this was in correlation to my eating pattersn and food. I refused to go on meds though, thank goodness. Anyway, i went right back down to cylcing a few times a week and very depressed as well as suicidal (eating SAD). In May I began a 5 month journey of only raw and I felt SOOO much better. Maybe it was the time of year since SAD was lifting, but then again during cooked foods in the summers I got really manic. Well, May - mid September my mood was steady and stable. I didn't get that manic stage and it was SUCH a relief. Sure, the few baby slips (of olives off a salad bar or predried fruits) got me a tad "blah" and dpressed, but I felt SO much better. I totally forgot about the bipolar. Well, after three weeks of cooked the sever depression set in, I was suicidal last night, but today I've had only raw and I'm becoming kind of hypomanic, but tha'ts a good sign and I'll be once again normal.
Point is, I didn't realize that eating SAD can affect someone SO much. For my mental state I MUST be raw or there can be serious consequences. Knowing that the bi-polar got worse pluse the seasonal AD getting worse each winter I'm afraid of what may happen if I DON'T stick to raw! It's just amazing though.
Does anyone else have a similar type of story or situation?

I don't have a story or situation, but I have a relative, and a friend that are Bipolar. This will help me help them I believe. I hope you are ok!

Yes, there are many stories of how a raw & living lifestyle has improved or eliminated mental illness. The majority that I've heard testimonials from or read about have been uni-polar depression -- both situational or chronic -- with some OCD and a few "lesser" labels. With the exception of schizophrenia (because of the brain "damage" involved in it), I think most psychiatric disorders that exhibit chemical imbalances can be healed by eating all raw & living foods.
The raw foods don't in themselves heal, but, rather, they get rid of the toxins in the body and allow the body to heal itself. In these cases, the brain chemicals that are out of whack (a technical term, ya know!) can equalize without SSRI's or psychotropics.
What an incredibly fantastic discovery you've made -- so simple, inexpensive, and with immediate results!

My low to moderate (but chronic) depression and anxiety was completely cured on raw! It was amazing. I am so happy on raw most of the time now. I have moments of pure joy for no apparent reason. :-) I haven't felt that since I was a child and even then I only remember feeling that way a few times.
Whenever I slipped and ate some cooked (even "healthy", vegan stuff) I immediately felt depressed again. It is amazing!
BTW, I've read that schizophrenia has responded well to a gluten and dairy free diet in some studies (just like autism, interesting huh?) so I'm sure going all raw would help it even more!!!!
I am so interested in this! Imagine how many people who are suffering could be helped if they went raw. The challenge is getting the word out there and convincing people to try it! :-)
rawfood didn't cure my bad additude... it just made it alot more FUN!! ;)

Depression, bipolar, and schitzy-ness. I wouldn't say they are all cured 100%, but the effects of a raw diet upon my mental state are amazing to me. And I know others as well who say the same.
It's so amazing that food can have such an effect...
