I am going to make an offer without checking with my wife first but I am pretty sure she wouldn't mind working something out over it, if someone is interested.

I am now ouit of my home state and my kale garden is going bonkers, with noone to pick and eat it. If there are any members in the NW suburbs of Chicago who would'nt mind traveling to the vicinity of Arlington Race track (the NW Line to the track will put you within a short walk to our home), I am offering you to come and pick some kale for yourself or family, provided she will be able to make arrangements to meet you there. It would probably have to be in the evening or weekends. I haven't found any neighbors who are as fond of it as I or the raw crowd are. I have dwarf blue curly, red russian, less of lacinato, and You may not be able to teel the difference between the starbor and dbc, but I will try and guide you to where each is planted. Starbor is similar to db curly. There are many plants and I haven't been able to harvest any for three or four weeks. I hope the winds and storms have not damaged much of them. I am awaiting pics this evening to verify their current condition. Come by and get three or four bunches or whatever would make your trip worth while if you wish. I will probably not be back in time to enjoy it this fall. Just leave me a little, in case I return by snowfall.:D

So, Free U-pick kale, donations or reciprocations happily accepted of course, but no need for them. I hate to see it go to waste after working so hard to build the soil and nutrients organically all summer. Here's an idea. We had severe tree damage, so a few minutes helping my wife pick up or bag some branches might be a nice trade if you feel so inclined.

If there is any interest, post it here and I will message or e-mail you with contact info. I am more than glad to give it away but only mention the branch cleanup as a way to make things easier for my wife in my absence.

Kale does a body good!

Come and get some kale, no obligation.

Our neighbors blessed us yet again. While my wife was shopping, the gentleman next door finished cleaning up branches. These same folks also cleaned up a fallen spruce and two large maple leaders for us while we were away.

If I lived in the area, it'd be a done deal. I would pick it all and freeze most of it for green smoothies. I LOVE Kale! :D

I wish it were practical to ship it. You'd be welcome to it.

Lisa will be working on some kale chips this week, but there is still plenty to go around. I only have a small four tray dehydrator or I would ask her to dry a lot of it. I have a full jar of dried and ground kale already that I will use like hemp powder. Our freezer is stuffed to the gills, so that is out as an option for us as well.

I imagine I could make 5-10 batches of chips out of each plant if I were home. Having maybe 40 plants I seriously overplanted. Lisa is checking with a local food pantry I used earlier on, to see if they want more.
If nothing else it will serve to fortify next years soil via compost or tilling it in. It being a brassica, is a good root knot nematode deterrant by adding it back to the soil. I blend it and mustard greens in where I grow garlic.

I have a friend that uses kale quite often and lives in Chicago suburbs (can't remember which one right now). I can email her and see if she'd like to help you out :)

Thanks Aleesha. I have not used it before but have heard of it. I will look into it.

Icequeen, that would be fine is she is willing to come to the edge of Arlington Heights (near N.W. Highway and Wilke) to pick some up. I were home I'd be willing to meet people part way (within reason), with some kale. My wife's had a rough few weeks so I don't want to put that upon her. She did say she'd be willing to answer calls and let them come pick some though.

Thank you both. I am hoping to pay forward some of the incredible kindness bestowed upon me and my wife lately.
