I guess it's time to introduce myself -- I've been a bit of a lurker on here and I finally decided to take the plunge and join up :) I'm new to the raw food diet in general. About 6 months ago, I did a 100% raw food cleanse, I suppose you could say, with a friend of mine who needed to drop a good deal of weight. She quit after a day, primarily because of detox symptoms, I believe, and I followed suit a couple of days later never considering doing raw food as a long term option.
Flash forward a few months, and I find myself thinking about raw foods again. While I am attracted to added health benefits over a lifetime, I have to be honest that my immediate goals are to 1) drop a good deal of weight! and 2) get in the best shape of my life. See, I'm beginning the process of enlisted in the military. I need to lose about 30 pounds of fat (preferably fairly quickly) and put on a little muscle and increase my endurance. Unfortunately I won't be able to maintain a raw food diet during basic training (which could be as far away as a year in the future!), but I think I could manage at least a high raw diet after those 8 weeks of misery :)
At this point, I'm increasing my raw food intake. I think I'll go a bit slower than 6 months ago, perhaps doing raw foods during the day, with half a cooked meal for dinner with a nice salad? I'm concerned about sticking to it in the long term (hence why I want to actually transition into this time) and I'm also a little bit concerned about the cost of buying fruits and veggies in winter.
I'm sorry I'm writing a book here, but I also wanted to ask for any advice as to what I should be eating. Right now, I'm choosing things that sound delicious and are affordable. I find myself more drawn to vegetables, but I'm also making an effort to eat fruits, too, which I always shunned due to calories and sugar. Some suggested the 80/10/10 raw food diet to me, I suppose because a lot of athletic people do it? I'm not athletic, but I am going to shortly start getting in shape and working out. I'm hoping that's possible without following 811 because I don't think it's for me! I'd love any and all advice about losing weight! This affects both my immediate and long term health, but also my career goals, so it's essential that I do the best I can and stick to it this time!
I look forward to getting to know all of you! And, again, sorry for the long diatribe :)
