I am mainly going to be juice greens as I am just not eating enough. I just don't know which juicer to get! any advice out there would be helpful! thanks
I just got this juicer (http://www.discountjuicers.com/samsonpackage.html), which appears to be very similar to the Omega. I got his one because I wanted a juicer that would juice greens - but mainly wheatgrass -and- what sold me on this one is that I can cold press flax oil (and other oils too, but I have only done flax).
This juicer will pay for itself in less than 9 months just from the savings in not having to buy our flax oil any longer.
I just got it so I haven't juiced wheatgrass yet - but we have pressed the flax oil and juiced greens. I'm so impressed that I'm retiring my faithful Champion juicer which we've had since the early 80s. *Ü*

those were the 2 I was going between - I ended up going with the 8006 because the reviews say it does greens so well - and it does!! I was looking at the VRT because of the easy cleanup, but I am really happy with my 8006, it juices great and the cleanup is super easy, soak and rinse!!
Check and see if Dimond is still selling them, I got a great deal!!!!!

wow DebB -- I looked at the Samson juicer -- looks fantastic.
How does it work for soft, juicy fruits?

How does it work for soft, juicy fruits?
John Kohler says in one of his videos on the Samson that it does not excel with juicing soft fruits. To be honest, I've only juiced soft fruits once and it "appeared" to do just fine.
Knowing he said this, I simply took the pulp (comes out like a rope, like a Slim Jim) and ran it through again. I think I put in a very overripe peach and pineapple.
John's got videos on YouTube - I think they're under his name of 'okraw' there if you'd care to see them.
It's sooooo different from my Champion. I just boxed up my Champ to go to the basement. I'll give her a well deserved rest! (I'm not getting rid of her though - we've had her almost 30 years!!) *Ü*
I've had the Samson longer now and have juiced more than when I posted above. I cannot say it does a good job with soft fruits. I may have to bring my beloved Champion back up from the basement and have them both on the counter to take care of my juicing needs (wink!) *Ü*

I have both the Omega VRT and the Samson sitting side-by-side. The Samson is very similar to the Omega 8006, but I think the Omega may be built just a tad better. However the Omega 8006 and Samson work equally well.
ONLY the centrifugal juicers do a great bulk job at soft fruits. All the others tend to be a bit pulpy. I also have the Jack La Lanne and this $100 machine can bulk out a bunch of apples/soft fruits quicker and with less pulp than ALL of them...Green Star, Omega VRT, Samson ....all of them.
However, I rarely do up the soft juices in bulk. So since you say you're mostly doing it for the greens, here goes: The VRT is temperamental. It is WAY quicker than the Samson on a day-to-day juicing. But throw a bunch of stringy things in there, like large handfuls of parsley (with the stringy stems) or large amts of OLD tough wheatgrass and the small orifice in it gets plugged, and you have to take the thing apart and clean out the small, plugged orifice. PITA.
Now, young wheatgrass and small amts of parsley are fine.
I've actually done them side-by-side and the Samson can handle many more stringy things than the VRT, but is much slower. But you can say "slow and steady wins the race" . But on a day-to-day basis, I use the VRT more often cuz it's quicker. You don't even have to push down on whatever it is you're putting in it. It pretty much feeds itself.
I may not be of much help. It depends what you want to do with it. You may not do much parsley, or ever abuse yours like I do in the spring when my whole garden I've overwintered in winter wheat as a cover crop, has the wheatgrass grow in all at once. But you will save about $100 on the Samson. It is a little more versatile, and they BOTH clean equally well and are easy to clean. . I think the Samson may be a teeny tiny bit easier to clean. But that would not be the deciding factor for me because they're both close.

DebB....now you've got me wondering about the flax oil. I didn't know that!!!Is there a special attachment? Oh do tell! I jut got a 25-lb bag of flax seeds in....Now I'm curious about making my own flax oil!!! does it end up with a lot of lignans in it?
Don't retire your Champion! Save it for when you get a bunch of apples in etc and want to do a bulk amt......

Okay DebB, no need to answer, I just ordered the oil attachment from Samson as I have an account with them!
So to the OP, if you think you might want to do the oil---DebB's link looks to be a pretty good price for the Samson.
Thanks to the OP for starting this and to those that turned me on to the oil-making capabilities. DebB, you really think it'll take six mos? or you said nine? I don't remember, but either way, I think it'll take shorter than that! LOL
Thanks again,
Mary Kay
Hi Mary Kay ~ Sorry, I haven't been on all day to see your post. We're loving the oil press attachment! We ordered in the 25# bag of regular (brown) flax seed from Azure. I remember my husband did the calculations and it was 9 months to pay for itself just in flax oil savings alone since we pay $14 per 12 oz (?) bottle of Barlean's. But now we're both taking the flax at 2T per day, so the savings will be even greater. It's too late tonight for me to do the math :)
I'm really enjoying the Samson. It juices so differently than the Champion. What I really like too is that the juice stays cool, where in the Champion it did heat it up. With all the fruit I have, I may be bringing the Champion back up into action this week! (I love my Champion - we've had it for almost 30 years!!) *Ü*

Thanks DebB,
I've recently got my whole family into having spoons of flax oil. I've upped my intake to about 4 or 5 TBSP a day, as well as incorporating other fats, so I think we'll hit that break-even point quickly! I'll probably think of you often, when I'm taking it from now on!

You're taking 4-5T a day? I wondered about upping my intake as I currently take 2T and I feel my skin is still somewhat dry and I want my skin to be more oily (if that makes sense).
How long have you been taking 4-5T per day?
And yes - your juicer may pay for itself in about 10 days - LOL (woot!). *Ü*

You've got me cracking up. Actually, I've already had the juicer for a while, it's the oil attachment that I've just ordered.
I'm going to try Robert Young's theory of taking 3 1/2 oz = 7 TBSP of oils/day. Right now, I'm not up to that yet, as before I do, I want to test my blood (so scientific- LOL) Then I'm going to up the oils ---I'll be doing a mix - not only flax --even some non-vegan -and retest. I'm doing this for fibrocystic breasts as well as just gen'l health. I'll let you know the results!
LOL, I'm still cracking up....
Mary Kay
I just googled Robert Young and see he authored, "Sick and Tired" - is that what you've read? I found it on Google Books with probably 1/2 the book there..

I've heard that's a good book, but some of the reviews cite that it has many spelling errors, and others say so what? LOL
I'm going more from his pH Miracle Books. We have a local raw food group that meets once-a-month---the people who organized it are devout followers of Robt Young...I believe much of what he says, but wouldn't call myself "devout" LOL....Anyway, I got this from them. The one woman had detectable breast cancer (early stage) and cured it by following his advice. She actually went on to apprentice to him, which cost her like $20,000!!! Now, that's devout....LOL
He believes /and what she did was 3 quarts of juices a day (no sweet fruits --stuff like cukes, celery, lemon etc), 2 soup-like smoothies and lots of good oils avocados ---don't know what he thinks about nuts.
I read his pH Miracle book quite a few yrs ago, and he has an updated version that I just bought...but have only had time to glance through it....that so far, looks real similar/has much the same...but supposedly there are many new revisions....
Then he has a bunch of others pH Miracle for Weight Loss etc etc....
I came upon the idea of needing EFA's on my own ...when I did some raw juice fasts a few yrs back and lost my pd, I concluded that if I did do one and add some EFA's my pd would return....So, I believe him when he says to do a lot...he is a big promoter of live-blood analysis, and testing all the time....

MK
That is interesting! I'll have to look into that. I've heard of that book, but didn't know who the author was...
Thanks for sharing Mary Kay. Oh and I'm green with envy that you have such an active and involved raw food group! We've got one that meets once a month, but there's only 4-5 of us. But I have high hopes we'll grow! *Ü*
I just checked our library and they've got The Ph Miracle and the one on weight loss as well - I just reserved them both. *Ü*
