Hello lovely Rawbies! Hope you are all doing well. My days are good, albeit a little hectic.
My skin has not cleared up like I hoped, and so I'm going on a sugar cleanse for two weeks. It's going to be super duper tough--it wasn't that hard for me to go raw because I discovered a great love for fruit. But my body's all out of whack because of my hardcore addiction with coffees, rockstars, Twix bars, ect. and I need to balance my body out. So I'm only doing this for two weeks and then I'll be back to eating naners and peaches, which I miss already. I AM eating apples though, since they are low in sugar and also berries because they are super good for the skin. But anyway, I'm trying to encourage my tastebuds to love savory vegetable meals instead. I'm marinading my raw luffa stir-fry as we speak, and I also want to get into fermenting vegetables, like cabbage.

I'll keep you posted to let you know how I do, although I must admit: today I had a pluot (plum apricot hybrid, amazing!) without even thinking about it until afterwards. Sigh. Yes this is going to be sincerely tough for me. But it's only two weeks. Plus, I've got so many savory dishes to enjoy!!

Hello, my dear Stella!

Do you have a sense of what's causing the breakouts? Sugar is one possible trigger, but not the only one. I'd hate to see you suffer through giving up your sweet fruits if the issue was primarily due to liver overload or hormonal balance issues (which of course are connected to each other and connected to sugar, but you don't have to eliminate the fruits in order to maintain healthy glucose levels unless you have a diabetic condition or true candida overgrowth....) IMHO, there is a big difference between white sugar and sweet fruits, and when our bodies want sweet fruits it's much less likely to be an addiction issue and more likely to be a 'healthy craving' that signals what we really need.

I'll stop now, because I really don't have all the information and this could be totally off-based in your case. Just wanted to check to make sure you'd thought about liver and hormonal stuff, and if you haven't, I'll be happy to share what I know!

Good luck!

Hi Melanie--thanks for your reply! I think you're right that I might not need to do a sugar cleanse, but I figure I can do it in a healthy way for two weeks and see what happens! It's actually the perfect time of year for it anyhow...I've been having lots of fun squash recipes, yum. Oh, and you know what else I discovered--radish guacamole ravioli! Instead of putting nut ricotta cream in the thin radish peels, I scoop some guacamole in there--delicious and fun!

Jicama sliced thin with cayenne pepper helps. So does raw stevia.
