Hey guys! I am new to raw foods and I would like to know if you can eat flour raw? Such as eating teff or amaranth flour raw?
They contain a lot of calcium so hopefully I can benefit from that.
Thank you guys in advance!

Not sure, but someone recommended spelt kernels to me. And you can definitely make flax crackers.

There are lots of amazing raw foods that nature gave us and that you will love eating. My advice is to eat only foods that you enjoy as this is the best way to ensure that you will stay raw. I can not imagine that you would enjoy eating raw flour.
A lot of people (myself included) do not believe that wheat is a suitable food for humans and is best avoided.

I see. I do eat a lot of stuff that I enjoy (of course) but eating raw flour is not that bad to me, at least some kinds!

But is it a pleasure. You should (and can) enjoy everything you eat. You should be either getting great benefits or great pleasure from something to justify eating it. I can not imagine getting either from raw flour.

Thanks for replying! Where do you mainly get your calcium from? :)

Dark leafy greens (like baby spinach), oranges, almonds, soy nuts, bok choy, broccoli. kale, chinese cabbage, sesame seeds (seeds in general).
I'd just like to ask, if you don't mind, have you been eating teff or amaranth flour while raw and how did you eat it?

I get a lot of mine from celery. Either in smoothies or juice.

I'm not clear on why one would even consider eating raw flour. If it's calcium you want, google raw fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds containing calcium ~ or any other nutrient.
Personally, I don't feel raw grains are digestible to the human body no matter how they're ground.

I just eat amaranth flour from time to time just because it tastes kinda nutty, which I like. I think I have done that like two times. I get calcium from leafy greens but now I might go buy some sesame and chia seeds; which contain good amounts of the mineral. So you guys don't eat grains whatsoever? Or do you eat sprouted grains?

My children enjoy raw oats and millet. I've also ground oats into flour to make raw cookies. They are very yummy. I don't have a problem with some raw grains.

Oh okay. So perhaps the offender is mainly wheat?

I wanted to post that I think sesame seeds (I use them in crackers and in salads and to make raw tahini) have more calcium per gram than anything else on the planet.

Calcium..

Yes! I like these seeds and specially chia seeds, they got a lot of calcium as well, as well as tons of omega 3's and antioxidants!
I used to eat raw flour when I was a little kid. Plain bleached or unbleached wheat flour -- like when my mom would bake cookies or dough, I'd eat it by the spoonful. I think I enjoyed the texture of it more than the flavour.
I still like to eat uncooked oats, especially in cereal mixes like muesli. Is that raw?

OMG! That Kahlil Gibran quote is wonderful! My favorite is: "Madness is the first step towards unselfishness. Be mad and tell us what is
behind the veil of 'sanity'. The purpose of life is to bring us closer to those
secrets, and madness is the only means."
Kahlil Gibran
I cheated and found it on the Internet years ago! Favorite quote ever... Though I've read the Prophet maybe twice, it is my favorite of his, and probably saved my life when I was at my most depressed... Funny, I just bought a copy of it yesterday for my mom!!

i found this article on the net a while ago, explaining why grains are very bad for your body, particularly those that have gluten on them (wheat, oats, barley, rye)
http://www.fourhourworkweek.com/blog/2010/09/19/paleo-diet-solution/#more-3109
then he talks about diet and stuff and i really think thats not accurate nor healthy, but the explanation about grains is superb.
