View Full Version : Low Blood Pressure/Dizziness: Scary

Morning, folks.
Most of my life my blood pressure has been normal-high until I was raw for a long time, and then it dropped...
I don't know anything about blood pressure, and I have wondered if it would eventually stabilize (maybe I'm detoxing?), but it continues to be low.
I've heard that the dizziness I've been experiencing can be caused by low blood pressure, and I've also heard that dizziness is normal while detoxing. "Just put your feet up and try to relax and it will pass" is what I've been told, but if I'm at work and I get dizzy in the middle of my shift, how am I supposed to do that? It's a little scary when I bend down to show a customer where our organic beans are and when I stand up I feel like I'm going to fall down. Any suggestions?

this happened to me also, for maybe a month or more my blood pressure must have been low as everytime i bend down then got up again my head would feel exceptionally dizzy and fuzzy, not at all pleasant! for me it eventually stopped so i guess my blood pressure must have normalised (if that's what was causing it).
There are things that naturally lower blood pressure, such as parsley, so you may want to avoid them why you are experiencing symptoms.
I've also been told before that sage helps to normalise blood pressure whether its high or low

If you increase your blood volume by allowing your body to hold on to a little more water, that will bring your blood pressure up a little bit. You might play with adding some healthful sources of sodium like sea veggies or sprinkles of sea salt on your food.
Licorice (the herb, not the candy) is a great supporter of the adrenals and raises blood pressure a little, too. You could take it in a tea (you'll find it blended with other things as its flavor and action are quite strong) or purchase some plain licorice herb and chew on the sticks when you feel woozy. Alternately, if you're not trying to be 100% raw (or if at the moment of nearly passing out at work it's more important to stay upright than to stay raw) you could use organic licorice candies that are made with real licorice extract. Some health food stores sell these, and they will contain the effective properties of the herb. (They'll also contain sugar.)
Good luck. Make sure you're drinking plenty of fluids, avoiding diuretics (many herbal teas, caffiene of any sort, excessive exercise and sweating without replenishing sodium and water) and getting a little bit of healthy sodium in your diet.

Hi holistica -
two thoughts I had.....are you eating enough and how is your weight? Often, low blood pressure and dizziness are signs of a lack of weight and lack of fuel.

Do you tend to drink a lot of water? Especially in the afternoon? If so you may cause an imbalance with the Electrolyte of your body. I use to have this and i now drink water in moderation or slowly in the afternoon. Most water you get from fruit/vegetables anyway. If you are dizzy, try to eat some sea weed.
Yes detox could cause dizzyness also, keep researching and try different thing. Please know that i am not a doctor
Hope you feel well soon!

@Raw Angel Mom - I will try seaweed. I love it, and I've had sodium problems before, so if that helps, I'll chomp away!
@TaupeRawMan - I eat constantly. I always have grapes or apple slices or something to munch on while I work. Also, I'm 5'8" and I weigh 168 pounds, so I'm not nearly under-weight.
@MelanieBear - I could get a hold of licorice easily, as I work at a natural food store. Thanks for the tip!
@verbena - Thanks for the ray of hope. Sage, hunh? I'll give it a shot...

Hi Holistica -
for the salt, I would recommend some seaweed and some Celtic Sea Salt. You don't want to overdo the iodine from the seaweed.
You might have a heart issue that is revealing itself to you. I recommend that you see a doctor, it might have nothing to do with food at all. Even people who are very healthy in their diet and exercise, even people who are very thin -- people can have heart issues. Some things are genetic. Also, you might be missing an important ingredient in your health, or your body might not be assimilating something that you need even though you consume it. I remember a very healthy fit jogger died due to a selenium deficiency as I understand it. Anyway, hope you see a doc.

The dizziness seems to be passing, and I've lost a couple pounds. I guess it's just part of the cycle. Thanks, guys!
