I've been reading TONS of conflicting information on this.

I'm having surgery on Thursday and thought it might be a good idea to fast all this week and then probably a week or so after surgery just to help my body focus on healing, but I keep finding things that say NEVER fast before/after surgery, then others that say "it will help with faster healing".

Anybody have any real life experience with either? If it makes any difference, the surgery I'm having is on my shoulder.

Thanks!

I have experience with knee/leg surgery.

It's not a good idea to have surgery in a fasting state of detoxification and I would not recommend fasting prior to your surgery. Rather make sure you infuse yourself with the highest nutrition as possible. Green juices, greens, etc. You want to have your strength in place before the surgery.

When you're fully recovered from the procedure and no longer taking pain medication which I'm assuming you'll be on, then begin a healing fast. I would recommend a juice fast or feast.

Another tip, if you have an acupuncturist it's a good idea to visit prior to the surgery. It helped tremendously in my healing process. Or go afterwards.

Arnica before and after will help with swelling and the overall healing process.

Ginger root is great for swelling as well.

This is not medical advice of course, just experience having multiple leg operations over a 2 year period.

Best wishes with your operation. May you heal well & strong.

hmmm I would have thought (no knowledge behind this) that juice feasting would be a good thing before, during and after.

Eating a raw diet will increase your healing... so go with that!

Yes, that's generally true, but because she's having surgery this week, this is where my advice is coming from. I was looking at her specific situation as a psychic. Right now it would be beneficial if IceQueen eats a solid meal plan right now to ensure great nutritional stores in her body. Anesthesia is an a$$ kicker, not to mention all of the other drugs they use. We raw foodies tend to be cleaner than most and unfortunately feel a greater impact. Not all, but most. Although patients are unconscious during surgical procedures, the body is wide awake and feels everything. Leading to stress that resides in the tissues that needs to get worked out through Reiki, Acupuncture or deep breathing work. I've simply found in my persoanl experience with multiple reconstructive bone operations, getting into a meditative space & visualizing a positive final outcome is actually even more important & effective than food intake. IceQueen may benefit more from the latter as it's never fun having any kind of surgery. I realize I just contradicted myself, lol, but oh well you get my drift. Much peace.

rawheaven, no disrespect meant... but if you are doing a reading for someone, you should state that in your original post rather than making it sound like that's how it would be for everyone. other people read the archives and gain information from it. they may have taken that advice for themselves as well.

i would suggest that in the future, if you are doing a reading for people, to send it to them privately rather than posting it on the forum.

no disrespect meant at all... just a request from me to you.

Thanks all. I didn't fast, I just did my usual raw with a lot of extra juicing (my reasoning, was to get as much nutrition into my body as possible).

As a result, I had my surgery Thursday. I walked out of the hospital that afternoon LOL (the nurses were FREAKING that I didn't need a wheelchair) and went to my daughters hockey try outs Friday and then shopped most of the day Sat & went to hockey again Sat night. I was a bit swollen from all the activity, so I took it easy on Sunday and today but honestly.... I feel AWESOME!

Raw food is freaking AMAZING!!!! That is all I can say! I've had 6 knee surgeries before... and I was down for AT LEAST 2 weeks. I'm at 4 days and feeling like I'm just about back to normal.

Have I mentioned I LOVE RAW FOODS???? :D
