View Full Version : No more split ends!

I used to get split ends all the time. I quit dying my hair almost 2 years ago and started letting it grow long around the same time. I haven't trimmed it almost 6 months, but I noticed I don't have dry split ends like I used to get about 3 months after my hair cut. My hair is now soft even at the ends though it's where the old dye is. My hair still falls out every time I comb it; I use a big comb with wide teeth. Now that it's longer it seems like there's hair every where. Yet I don't think it's thinning. Anyone else dealing with this?
So, has anyone else noticed this or other changes in their hair since going raw?

My hair has been thinning since I've been losing weight / eating raw.
A friend told me that losing weight too quickly could result in hair loss...guess she was right. :o (I've lost 89 lbs. since 3/2010 and still got about 50 more to go).
I miss my thick hair, but I know it will come back.

I hope this doesn't happen. My hair is fine/thin enough.
What are the foods (plus fats) you're consuming?

I'm eating lots of greens now with one to two green smoothies a day plus a salad at night. I also eat lots of fruit. Seems like I'm eating more nuts than I was a month ago. I don't eat a lot of gourmet raw, but I do eat some.
I don't know if my hair is really thinning or if it's normal to have this much hair left in my comb.

I have heard it's "normal" to lose up to 100 hairs a day.....
Things that help the hair?
Biotin - do a quick google search to see what foods are high in this
Silica - cucumbers
Hope this helps~:o

Thanks, Monkapotapus, for the info. So far I have found several food sources for Biotin at a few different sites. They seem to differ or just focus on different sources. One said bananas, papaya, chard, and avocados. I eat lots of those. Another stressed nuts and meats and fish. All say raw eggs. I love cucumbers and eat slices regularly. Maybe I could juice more and add cucumber juice to my diet more regularly.
Thanks again, for your help. I greatly appreciate it.

Cool!
Glad you found foods that may be helpful :)
Keep us posted on your results!
I just finished up a 3 day juice fast.....I like the blend of carrots, apple, celery, cucumber & lemon - Yum!!
Cucumber is a very refreshing flavor to me - try to get organic ones, so you can juice the skin where the silica is prominent :)

like monk said, you lose a lot of hairs a day. when you brush them, it just loosens them.
i used to put extensions in my hair, and after a couple of months TONS of hair comes out because it hasn't been able to come out naturally, it was stuck in the extensions

I was reading online that spirulina would be a big help to thinning hair as well as a B-complex supplement and eating lots of green leafy veggies.
So that's what I will do. I was taking a B-complex supplement a few months ago and stopped for whatever reason, so I'll take to that again and eat my rabbit food. ;)
I also have to wonder if me wearing a headcovering (for religious reasons) has anything to do with it. Probably not. I've been covering for 4.5 years and never had a problem.
But I have heard of other covering ladies end up with thinning hair because of it.
Anyway, sorry for rambling away... :D
Thanks for the support peeps!

shaved your head! I could do this but I need to be where no one knows me..ha. Losing hair dailly is normal. Old dead hair has to come our for new hair to come it. The new hair is pushing the old hair out. Combing is needed. We're no-poo for 18mo, our hair is thicker now, softer. My little DD's hair is beautiful. People are always commenting on it.
