Hi,

Whats people opinions on HEALTHY eating regarding a RAW high fruit (sugar) diet and a RAW high fat diet.
Is a high fat diet with fats coming from avocado's and sprouted seeds very healthy ?
Is a high fruit diet with all the sugar really healthy ?

Does anyone eat a high fat raw vegan diet, with no sweet fruit ?

Share with me your experiences please =

Thanks,
Paul

I am low fat high fruit and I believe that it is the best.
There are some raw foodists that get more than 60% of their calories from fat and that can not be good.
Every cell in your body need simple sugars the feed them. That is what I give them.

Hello,
How do you know this ?
Because I have read it from more than one source. I probably started that way myself. I often had nothing but avocado for a meal. Cut them and spoon them.

I do best with a higher fruit intake, I just feel lighter & cleaner, but I also do very well with avo's & olive oil. I DO NOT do well with nuts/ they make me feel heavier & my body has a harder time digesting them.

I eat mostly fruit but when I have a salad ----which is usually daily I may use 1/2 avo & olive oil dressing.

It has to depend on the individual. It suits me to get 30% to 50% of my calories from fat.

Based on what I've seen and learned from the raw community in my region, I think women might do better on high fruit diets than men.

My body does very well on high fat. I eat lots of avocados and almond butter. If I don't, I start craving breads, cakes, and chocolate, so I try to eat as many fats as I can. I have actually lost more weight eating an avocado a day than when I don't eat one... And I've lost 80 pounds eating raw.

But I do not want to loose weight so it does not suit me. I can not afford to loose any.
I experience the feelings that you describe if I do not get greens and I assume that it is because I am not getting enough minerals and so my body gets hungry and asks me for weird things in the hope of making up the difference.

Hey,
Can i ask what you usually eat ?
I would like to know how many calories you usually consume compared to if you eat low fat ?
Also do you feel and look healthy now eating high fat ?

Thanks very much.

Can i ask how many avocado's and fats you usually have each day, and what other foods do you like to eat ?
Do you feel and look healthier eating a high fat diet ?

Thanks :)

I tend to eat low fat high fruit in the spring and summer, slightly higher fat and less sweet fruit in the fall and winter, as there is less palatable and affordable fruit in the latter months. I try to eat as much fruit as I can while it is here lol! That being said, I don't really know which way is better, although even with higher fat I am really light on the nuts, and prefer to get it from avocados. nuts tend to make me bloated/ constipated... it is all about digestion for me, not necessarily which is considered the more proper/ best way ;)

Hello,
Thanks very much for the reply,
I'm just concerned that eating over 50% of my calories from fat almost all avocado and some sprouted hemp seeds might actually be unhealthy, even though i'm eating all raw food,
I can't find the answers anywhere and i'm yo-yoing from one diet to the other and not feeling happy,
I have read that high fat diets are bad and ketosis can be bad for us but also has health benefits.
I'm not sure is my body would go into ketosis though eating raw food 50% + calories from fats and the rest from tomato's and greens e.t.c.

Its interesting to read other peoples experiences.

Thanks,
Paul

I get about 30% of my daily calories from fat - most of those nuts and seeds and not plant fats. I find that it works well for me but I also take in quite a bit of fruit too. Not enough fat also makes me have cravings or feel sluggish. Sometimes I wonder if this is because some of the higher fat foods (nuts and seeds) also has more protein. I think everyone's different and finding what works for you is the hardest part.

I'm the same way. I do fine with avo's & oils, but nuts make my body freak! So I as well go by digestion & I how I feel that way!

For me it changes with the seasons.

In the winter I'm higher fat, lower fruit (but not low fruit), mainly because of availability and the fact that something in the cold makes me want more fats.

In the warmer months I'm higher fruit, lower fat. But I'm not dogmatic about it, I will eat a high fat meal if I want it.

It really does depend on where you are in your raw journey and how you react to certain foods/types of foods. I don't believe in dogma and drawing arbitrary lines in the sand (and most of it is arbitrary, given that we all react in slightly different ways and live in different circumstances). Nature doesn't do black and white very often, and she's also very fond of cycles.

When I eat a lot of fruit and greens without any fat, I have to keep consuming frequently or I lose my energy and get low blood sugar blues.

What I eat varies a LOT! To sum it up in general, maybe some fruit in the morning, smoothie for lunch, afternoon snack of kale chips, nuts, seeds, or a green juice, a salad or a raw recipe for dinner, and a dessert. Or I might eat those same things in reverse order. It's pretty much whatever I want, whenever I want it.

The one thing consistent in my day is a smoothie, though the ingredients vary. Sometimes I go for nut milk or young coconut, sometimes a standard green smoothie. All my smoothies have supplements, superfoods, and herbs added in.

Yesterday I ate half a french breakfast melon for breakfast. Lunch was a smoothie of grapefruit, lemon, lime, cucumber, 6 large dino kale leaves, a big handful of parsley, dried stevia leaves, and vanilla bean. It was so thick I ate it with a spoon. I attended a raw potluck for dinner, tried a spoonful of several salads and dishes, with coconut water, a slice of peach pie, and lots of cacao treats for dessert.

Today I had smoothie with 4 plums, 1 banana, 6 large dino kale leaves, 2 Tbsp hemp seeds, a chunk of young coconut meat, big spoonful of Vitamineral Green, small spoonful acai berry powder, dried stevia leaves, blended with a cup of chilled herbal tea (nettle, pau d'arco, horsetail, and more). Kept me going strong for 6 hours with my daughter at the mall (on Labor day no less, what a zoo). Right now I'm munching on a few cheezy kale chips. Not sure what is for dinner, probably mixed greens with Snowdrop's Ranch Dressing, or maybe a big green juice so that later I can finish off the last Fig & Date Bar with some raw ice cream made with young coconut and cashews.

Eating this way has kept me raw for over two years. I can't remember the last time I had a craving or even a slight twinge for putting anything cooked in my mouth.

In the past when I tracked calories and nutrients on FitDay.com I almost always ended up at around 1600-1800 calories a day, at 50% fat. My weight is consistent, though higher than I would like. If I eat around 1200 calories a day I lose weight. Easier said than done. I like my diet too much the way it is. :) Besides, I feel great and look healthier than ever. Last time I went to the Doctor for a checkup the nurse that has worked there forever looked very surprised when she saw me. She verbally stumbled looking for the right words, she said "You look..... HEALTHY!" The Doctor had a good word for me, too. She said to keep doing whatever I was doing. :)

I hope that answers your questions. It is such a long answer I think I'll copy it into my blog.

Hey,

After thinking logically about this, i do think that low fat is going to be healthier.
But we are all different and we should eat what we need.

I have been eating lots of fruit with just 1 avocado a day for the last 2 days and i do feel better with more fruits.

I think i'm gonna just eat when i feel like it exercise a fair bit and not worry about sweet fruits and fats. :)

Thanks very much for the reply's everyone, very helpful.

I think it's best to keep a balance. Enjoy fruit and healthy fats like coconut and avocado but don't leave veggies out of the mix! I munch on lot's of veggies throughout the day (carrots, beets, baby tomatoes, peppers, etc) If you find just eating plain veggies boring at first make yourself an avocado based dip and get ready to experience yumminess. :) I'm personally not a fan of a high fruit diet, too much sugar makes me feel strung out and puts stress on the adrenal glands, but everyone is different and you have to figure out what works best for you.

I don't feel we can make a general rule what is good or not but our body CANS.

I don't do well with nuts and my husband doesn't do well WITHOUT them. We all are different. I am a fruit person all the way, lol... I don't feel well if i don't do my fruits and green smoothie. Some people don't do well with too much fruits.

Eat as much variety of food you can to train your body to recognise the nutrients it needs and it will generate you cravings. Consider to look into Dr. Ann Wingmore energy soup, it is a very balance food containing so many nutrients and chlorophyll.

Follow Alissa Cohen philosopy, FREEDOM. If you are too religious about what you eat, your mind will make you eat like the old ways that made you sick in the first place. Don't deprive yourself and just eat, most of all learn to hear the voice of your body. Sometime, i can only eat mainly one type of food. I trust that my body knows what it needs.

My body does better with whole grains than it does with fatty things...they make me feel super sluggish, like I could fall asleep in the middle of the day.
