View Full Version : Favourite Juices while Fasting

Aleesha Sattva

I'm creating this thread for two reasons.

1) So people who are fasting and find a new wonderful juice can share

AND

2) For people who are about to do their first fast to find some combos that work! (which is bigger than most people think. It's expensive and frustrating to try combo after combo and find nothing tastes good)

So please feel free to add your fav juices or combos here. Please put exact amounts to make it easier for someone to recreate your juice.

my current favourite juices:

2 cantaloupes with skin removed (seeds left in) - cut into slices.
8 x 2" tops of mint (the new leaves and stem)

My personal fav is chocolate mint but I also love using pineapple mint, apple mint, orange mint, english mint (which is very strong) and peppermint.

When I make this juice combo I add a bit of water as it can be a bit thick.

~~~
Tomato Blend
4 tomatoes
1 stalk of celery
1 garlic clove
1 green onion
1 chunk of ginger
Once you've made your juice add: 1 tsp kelp powder, 1 tsp of cayenne, smoked sea
salt (or celtic), 1 tsp of curry.
~~~

Pineapple Juice

Remove the top and all the skin.

Juice the pineapple and add a tsp of spirulina to the juice. Mix well with a whisk and enjoy!

~~~
Apple/Cranberry
4 apples
1/2 a bag of fresh or frozen (thawed) cranberries
chunk of ginger
This one has a huge zing to it. You can also replace the cranberries with a stick of rhubarb.
One of my favorite juices is called:
Better Red Than Dead
1 beet, including top
1/2 medium size sweet potato
3 carrots
It is sweet and creamy and oh so delicious
This is my all time fav fasting green juice:
a couple large handfuls of baby spinach
3-4 stalks celery
1 apple or a few cups of green grapes (or both if you like sweet)
1-2 leaves dino kale
a chunk of cucumber if available
this is sooooo green and sooooo good.
===============================
1/2 - 1 small bag frozen cranberries (thawed) or fresh if available
2 oranges (peeled)
several cups red grapes
===============================
Watermelon and grapes ... yum
===============================
2-3 large tomatoes
2 stalks celery
small chunk of onion
1/4 beet
1/2 - 1 med cucumber
one stem broccoli
1 sweet red pepper
4-5 carrots
The onion gives this juice a nice zing ... if you like ginger, add a small piece as well.
mmmm thanks terry reminded me that:
50/50 juice of apples and cranberries with ginger is GREAT
so is:
4-5 apples and 1/2 stick rhubarb
both of these are zingers!!!
Are all of these done with a juicer? I am assuming so but just want to make sure. These sound sooo yummy!!
One of our favorite juices around my house.... Pineapple/cucumber...
You wouldn't think they go together, but they do..
Its just...
1 pineapple
1 medium cucumber (with or without skin)
Juice them together and enjoy. You really don't taste the cucumber, but it takes away some of the "sweet" taste of pineapple (which can be a little much at times).
Enjoy,
Cathy :D aka ~The Lady Aredhel~
Green Thai Curry
4 Green Pepers
3 Cucumbers
6 Sticks Celery
1 Stick Lemon Grass
2 Lemons
Water from 2 Coconuts
Curry
Before I served (slightly warm) I add 1 Tbs of Cocoanut Oil.
Ginger would be super yummy too
Green Peppers are not ripe - so I will be trying again with a colored pepper and see how it goes. Still just as good, just a bit sweeter I imagine!!
Happy juicing :D
Made a lovely juice combo... here's what I did:
Juiced 3 short 'long english cucumbers' and split it between the jars. (I used 8 x 500ml jars {two cup jars})
Then I juiced 3 spears of pineapple, one piece of ginger, one piece of lime and as many apples as needed to fill the jar.
I did this for each jar.
Then I added a little E3Live to each jar, closed them up and popped them in the fridge!
The very first juice I tried and it astounded me how good it tasted.
Simple too.
2 apples
Handful spinach
Grated nutmeg
The taste of the spinach does not disappear but it compliments the apple so well! I recommend this for any juice newbie who wonders how they are gonna get their greens.
My favorite so far and super easy is carrots/apples. Tastes similar to apple cider. You can use green or red apples, both tastes delicious.
Hey Aleesha!
I'm making your Tomato Soup today, but I don't have any Kelp Powder. I do have Dulse Granules...is that similar? Can I substitute that, or should I just omit the powder?
I am loving this juice I make, half a quart of green juice- romaine, celery, cukes, and chard and then fill the quart to about 80% with apple carrot juice, then top off the rest of it with orange grapefruit in a 3 to 1 ratio. Tastes so good, smooth, creamy and sometimes like banana!
i just made a lovely blend.
large pineapple
lots of kale
celery
2 small oranges
lemon
8 apples
2 kiwi
All mixed up together and it made 2.5 litres of juice. I'm sipping on 500ml now.
I love doing citrus juice cleanses, fasting on lemon water or Master Cleanse recipe, or green juice with mainly cucumber or celery, maybe some mint and cilantro, lemon, a bit of ginger, a few leaves of kale and a green apple. = )
This morning I had a great juice! It made a lot and I had to drink it because I have a Jack LaLane juicer and I have to drink it all at once, so it kept me full until lunch. Here it is:
Karen Knowler's Green Goddess Juice
1 ripe pineapple
2 apples
1 cucumber
8oz of greens
5 celery stalks
1/2 lemon
1/2 lime
I used a whole head of red lettuce. It was so YUMMY!!:juicy:
My two favs: two large or four small courgettes (zucchini) with half a pineapple. The courgettes are a lovely, creamy, pale green and the pineapple gives them added sweet sourness. Courgettes are great on their own, too, with a bit of lime.
My other current fav: a handful of tomatoes, two red peppers and a carrot. A totally delicious all red juice.
I'll add a recent favorite:
4 carrots, 1/2 butternut squash, and 1 large red bell pepper. Beautiful color and taste!
I am finishing up my fast, and my fave juice this time has been:
1/2 head white cabbage
4-5 small/medium apples (don't overpower the cabbage)
Stir in a bunch of cinnamon, and I even sprinkled cinnamon on top of the glass.
I have had this a few days in a row. Enjoy!
fastfreedom shared:
I didn't wanna make a whole new thread for this juice recipe.
Ok so I said I would find this recipe and post it. I suppose a few months later than anticipated is better than never.
I tried this recipe only once last summer. And it was also the last day of my juice fast. Just a few details incase you make it and there's no resemblence of bannana. LOL But to me it was like drinking bannana.
Here....we.....go....
1 beet with the greens
1/2 cantaloup - (I always juice this with the skin/rind)
2 lacinato kale leaves.
1 collard green leaf
2 pink lady apples
small handfull of parsley
Also everything was organic from the hfs. Just another detail, cus fresh organic produce tastes better and has more flavor than it's commercial counterpart.
Yup. That's it. I made it and was soo surprised that it tasted like bannana. And since last summer I've wanted to share this recipe with this forum.
I figured I'd put this post in here where there's people juicing everyday. And if it tastes like bannana's to you too then maybe it should be added to a post where's there's other juice recipes. But I think it needs a few other people to taste test it before it can be called a bannana flavored juice.
Is there anything I can substitute the nut milk bag with for straining?
Aleesha Sattva
03-24-2011, 10:52 AM
a paint strainer bag from home depot works just as well. you can try to use a fine strainer but it takes forever and a day to strain it.
cheesecloth also works for straining.
Melonwater(aka watermelon) and Cucumber Juice
1/2 of a mini watermelon and 1/2 of a regular cuke(I vary this recipe with or without the cucumber peel, both taste delicious)
Made a lovely juice tonight. Just finished cleaning up and too tired to drink it and I have a slight tummy ache so only had a few sips.
I used:
Romaine
Kale
Parsley
Cucumber
Beet
Celery
Red bell pepper
Carrots
Basil
Garlic
It does taste pretty good. I think I will give it a 7 out of 10 :-)
From older threads, I got the idea to make red grape and celery. It is very good. Surprised I enjoyed it so much.
Having Aleesha's tomato blend jazzed up with some cucumber and beet. Awsome stuff.
Current fav that I never seem to tire from is the pineapple gazpacho recipe less the nuts and oil, but juiced. Sooo very good with some spicy jalapeno juiced with it.
Sorry--just saw the inquiry on the pineapple gazpacho.
-One pineapple, topped and bottomed and skin removed
-1 to 2 english cucumbers (Costco pineapples are BIG so usually use 2)
-1 jalapeno (remove seeds and ribs if you don't like it spicy) or use cayenne instead, to taste.
-nice size handful of cilantro. Around 10 average stems or more.
-piece of onion or shallot (about the size of a lemon wedge) gives it a little presence.
-Lime juice (I usually just squeeze it in after juicing the above, to taste. Or you can juice it too if you like.)
(I pretty much took the recipe from Raw Food Real World's pineapple gazpacho and left out the nuts and oil and just juiced the ingredients as it is one of my favorite recipes).
OK, so I made this, but like I said, I have to blend as I have a Vita Mix, and no juicer. It was good, not great, possibly because of the blending. I was hoping for something that tasted a lot like V-8 and this was not that. In a blender this becomes very frothy. And unappealing to look at. Nonetheless, it is edible and healthy.
Tomato Blend
4 tomatoes
1 stalk of celery
1 garlic clove
1 green onion
1 chunk of ginger
Once you've made your juice add: 1 tsp kelp powder, 1 tsp of cayenne, smoked sea
I made a V8-ish drink today and I do think its pretty V8-y:
3 cups spinach
6 medium carrots
1 small beet
1/4 wedge cabbage
1 clove garlic (i actually used green garlic - kind of like a scallion except its garlic)
red onion (used about a lemon wedge size)
3 celery stalks
2 cups tomatoes (or so... i used a couple handfuls of small but not cherry tomatoes)
Soooooo delicious
there's some great juice recipes on jointhereboot.com. my favorite one on there (so far) is the "mean green" juice.. it's also in the documentary- "Fat Sick & Nearly Dead" - Which you can watch on Netflix or Hulu, if you want. :) It's about an Australian guy who goes to the US for 60 days & juices his way across the US, starting in NYC. :) He has a whole bunch of health problems & by the end of his juice feast (60 days long) most of 'em are gone.. Along the way, he also met & inspired a bunch of people to start juicing. :)
My favorite so far and super easy is carrots/apples. Tastes similar to apple cider. You can use green or red apples, both tastes delicious.
I just started eating raw/ a 30 day juice fest Monday & was getting the gag reflex for most of the juices I was coming up with. I just tried this one tonight & my husband actually laughed at me because I was "MmmmmmMmmmmm-ing" unknowingly as I drank it. SO YUMMY! Needless to say, he tried it & loved it too. My favorite so far!
Thanks everyone for these recipes! I've noted some of them down and I'm going to try them out soon.
I'm a newbie juicer (got my juicer four days ago!) so I've been trying out different recipes to see what I like. Today I tried juicing carrots, apple, beet and ginger, it turned out amazing!
So far, most of the juices that I liked were mostly fruit-based. Any tips on adding more veggies without getting a gag-inducing concoction? I tried a recipe I got from a book on Green Juicing, it had leeks in it, absolutely horrible.
