I just had an idea that I'm not sure many have thought to create, maybe I'm wrong. :D One of the biggest things many people miss from the SAD is chips, right? Well there are some decent chip replacements out there, zucchini etc. But has anyone ever tried making banana/plantain chips raw style? Slice them thin, dehydrate and then add a bit of salt(optional) and you have chips. Lol just a thought :D

Dehydrated bananas don't become hard, but actually rather chewy. It's like candy for me. ;) But, maybe if you dry it long enough and it's EXTREMELY thinly sliced you'll get it to become hard.

Hm then maybe dehydrated zucchini or something like that would work lol :D

i wonder how thin apple slices would work? I used to make apple chips in the oven back in the day... wonder how they would turn out in the dehydrator? Kale chips are delicious, and I'm sure there are many here that would agree with that ;)

I'm one of the many that can agree on how great kale chips are. I haven't found anything else that even comes close to potato chips, except these...

Clockwise from the top:

PLAIN - Curly red kale rubbed with olive oil and sprinkled with nutritional yeast

RANCH - Curly green kale glazed with Snowdrops Ranch Dressing

BARBEQUE - Russian (oak leaf) kale glazed with cashew-red bell pepper sauce flavored with tomato concentrate powder, chili powder, cumin, and cayenne

CHEEZY - Curly green kale glazed with blended cashew-red bell pepper sauce

I'm having trouble choosing a favorite. All crispy and delish! Easy to make, too.

I tried zucchini in the dehydrator and just didn't like them. I would like to try the kale chips with a flavoring.
My dad brought me a huge basket of small unripe pears a couple weeks ago. I sort of pushed them aside and ignored them for a week. When I tested one it was juicy and ready to eat so...I got busy peeling and coring and slicing and pureeing...all that work. But sooo amazing the flavor of the dried pears and pear leather. My husband loves them and the kids loved the leather. We will have to watch that pear tree next year.

Google Abeba the Krazy Kracker Lady - she actually has chip recipes that turn out like real chips!

I've "almost" ordered her books so many times - do you (or anyone else) have them and if so, what do you think of the recipes?

I read here that some of her recipes use funky/questionable ingredients, but I don't recall now what those were... *Ü*

Ive made flax crackers, and I made 2 kinds of corn chips. I blended up some corn, added jalapeno, tomato, cilantro etc. Ive done zucchini and apples too, they don't get really crispy, but they are ok. Ive sliced some eggplant and they got sorta crispy.

I make flax crackers and raw corn chips all the time! So good with raw cheeze spread, guac, salsa, etc! Also love Alissa's cheezy sweet potato chips and salt/vinegar chips, too!

Her books are great! The recipes are easy. Not sure who would say she uses funky ingredients - to the contrary, her recipes are really simple - no nutritional yeast or anything like that. Lots of sunflower seeds, fresh veggies, sometimes almonds. She does call for spices like cumin, cayenne, chili powder - but nothing "exotic"

As with anyone's recipes, where she uses Agave, I sub coconut nectar; and I sub vanilla bean for vanilla extract.

Try it!!!
