Hey guys.
I'm pretty athletically active and always looking to improve.
Over the last few years as I've steadily ratcheted up my endurance, I've been looking for raw sports drinks to fuel me during long runs and other activities.
After experimenting with different things, I've found a blend of water, fruit, and celery to be far superior to anything you can buy in a store.
I've used these drinks to fuel a marathon and other long-distance athletics.
But I'd like to know what you guys use for your sport drinks.
Any athletes here?

LOL. Me either, but I like coconut juice as mentioned by several or just a simple smoothie of frozen banana wizzed with water. SUPER quick pick-up and good hydration. Tastes good too...

I'm allergic to coconut, so I tend to drink cucumber juice with lime, sometimes add a little apple.
I also like banana water.

This is a very simple and common homemade protein shake that does not use any protein or other bodybuilding supplements. It's very easy and cheap to make so great if you are on a budget.I've read your posts and have been leaning toward doing this, just for overall health.Interesting that this man also had psoriasis, asthma, eczema and hay fever, and now he is clear too.I like his overall health tips as well.He has some great combinations, and it all sounds delicious and refreshing.

I was wondering who you were talking about, and what homemade protein shakes this man does. Thanks!

I think that is why I really haven't exercised since going raw, because I know when I exercise especially run I am always so hungry and I have a protien shake aftwards, and I just don't know what to do. I know everyone is saying coconut water, but the coconuts that I have been buying are not the greatest. They only have about a 1/2 cup of water in them. so I didn't know if i could buy the coconut water that they sell in stores. i forget who they are by, but i just don't feel like i am getting enough water in just 1/2 cup. any thoughts?

I blend bananas, kiwi and water with a little honey. That does the job for me.

i love 1/2 lemon, 1/2 lime and a big pinch of sea salt in a huge glass of water. after a really good sweat it really hits the spot. i also read in the "thrive diet" and he had some wonderful recipes as well as excercise specific drinks.

I happened upon this forum while researching raw food sports drinks. I'm interested in hearing more about what experienced raw foodists use pre-game and post-game. I play recreational adult sports, flag football mainly, and I'd like to make my own drinks rather than buy Gatorade or other sugar laden drinks. I've read the recommendations above but I'd like some input from anyone else who might have a tried and true set of recipes. Thanks in advance for the help.

Does anyone do endurance running? I have a marathon coming up in a few weeks - my first since trying to go raw and juicing. I am not sure what to do during the race. I generally don't carry anything with me as it feels so annoying when I run with bottles, belts, etc. But I don't really want to drink that awful artificially colored sports drink they provide on the marathon course. I need to have some electrolytes and nutrition during the run. Any suggestions?

are you allowed to arrange your own drinks at the drinks station? What about friends placed strategically along the route?

Great suggestions. I am running in another city and there will be 10,000 other runners, so I doubt the aid stations will let me put my drinks there. But I could have my family bring some along the way. Thanks!

LOL --"Datorade" That's a new one for me!
I am no longer buying fresh young coconuts that are dipped in fungicide, wrapped in plastic and possibly nuked....I've been buying raw, frozen, organic coconut water that is shipped directly to me. Since I am in Ohio, I'm figuring this to be the best that I can do.
I'm a 56 year-old regular/non-athlete, but trying-to-fake-it- mom.

Mary Kay, where do you find the water? I would love to try that too..every time I buy one of those young coconuts they taste rancid, are expensive and look bad.

Basenjimamma, I have been very happy with the fresh og frozen coconut water from Body Ecology. I haven't tried the meat yet, but plan on it with my next order.
I used to keep the aseptic coconut water on hand for emergencies --in case my kids got sick with diarrhea or something, and my son used to love the stuff. Now, since he's had Body Ecology's he doesn't like it any more!

After I do a workout, I always blend coconut water and flesh + two frozen or fresh bananas + raw cocoa- it is a really filling and delicious smoothie. if I don't have coconuts on-hand, then almond milk is a good hgih protein replacement.

Since I started with coconut water that has been my favorite drink. Prior to that I liked to use juice 1/2 lemon 1/2 lime, little bit of sea salt and tablespoon of maple syrup into filtered water. That would help me feel much better after hard workouts, or drinking during the exercise.
