I love Olive Oil (EVOO) for so many reasons.
It's obvious use for healthy eating is known, but it's also great for your hair, skin and nails (applied to).
There are many thoughts about it, but from my understanding cold-pressed organic is the way to go.

One single minded thought.... Bariani California Extra Virgin Olive Oil

It is a fractional food and is 100% fat. Your body does not recognise it or know how to deal with it.
I saw a lecture on the internet where a guy claimed that it would be healthier to pour SAD ice cream on your salad.

Olive Oil? Bad for Your Heart?
Unfortunately, we've grown used to this kind of dietary flip-flop. Many Americans have begun to wonder if even the experts know what they're talking about. One day margarine is good for you, the next it's bad. One day vitamin E protects against heart disease, the next it offers no benefit at all. Now it's olive oil's turn.
Vogel tested the effects of three different meals on a group of 10 volunteers who had normal cholesterol levels. One meal consisted of canola oil and bread. Another was olive oil and bread. The third meal was a piece of salmon. All three meals contained 50 grams of fat.
But their effect on blood vessels was very different. Before and again three hours after each meal, Vogel's team measured constriction of the volunteers' arteries. Sharp constriction can injure the inner lining of blood vessels, according to Vogel.
The arteries didn't constrict much after the salmon meal. After the meal containing canola oil, they constricted slightly, reducing blood flow by 11%. After the olive oil and bread combination, however, blood flow plummeted 34% -- exactly the effect that Vogel had seen in previous research after volunteers ate a Big Mac with fries

I have to agree with you on the effects of olive oil on hair. Ever since going raw (taking in much more olive oil, but also am raw, so who knows why actually) , my hair has become very, very soft. The way I noticed was also pretty nice - think hands running through hair :p

I am sorry if I have added to your scare but if the information is out there then you deserve to know it.
You do not have to give it up. Everything in your diet does not have to be perfect. Just cut it down and only use it when it really adds to a meal and not gratuitously.

Let's not scare away newbies. :) Bariani Olive Oil and any truly raw one is the one to go with. However, like with any fat, use in moderation. Whole foods are always better than oil, whenever possible. Someone new to raw doesn't need to worry about all the different things that may or may not be the complete best. There's enough time once raw for awhile to adjust your diet.

Jeanne Calment ate lots of olive oil.
She lived to the age of 122...and was the oldest human ever to live.

She also smoked for 96 or so years and you can not tell me that that was healthy.
