Hi guys,
I've had this problem since before raw, and was wondering if anyone else knows the cause or has also experienced it...
Whenever I'm either lying down or sitting, and then stand up, my vision fades for 3-5 seconds and I feel slightly dizzy. Is this normal or am i lacking something?
I already checked my blood pressure and I'm normal. This has been going on for a few years now. I'm a 17 year old female.

Are you sitting or lying down for the majority of the day? Do you exercise?

Actually I am sitting and lying down for a majority of the day!... I never thought that could be the reason. It also happens when I wake up in the morning.
And I only recently started attending aerobics classes. Had my second one today. I'm not overweight (more like "skinny fat") but I am in terrible physical shape.. I'm out of breathe in the first few minutes. Thanks for the reply Dimond!

Your welcome. :) As someone who sits a lot, I found taking mini exercise breaks helps throughout the day. You can do various stretches or yoga and a bit of aerobic type exercise.

Hey, this happens to me too. Always has, no matter what my health has been like. I'm 19, and fairly inactive as well. It's annoying, but nothing serious has ever happened.

I had it when my iron was low: try eating beetroot and spinach every day and see what happens. It helped me whithin days. Take care!

Yeah, it's definitely an inactive issue. I use to have the same thing happen. Even if you exercise once or twice a day, it may not be enough if you're inactive the rest of the time. I realized I need to exercise more than what's considered the norm. Good thing I love it most of the time. :)

I'm quite active and it happens to me on occasion. I'd check out what Freshlight says.

Revvell, that just means for people that are active they have a different issue. If one becomes much more active for around a couple of months and still has this issue it could be a vitamin deficiency.

Yikes, that sounds scary :( hope you haven't had any bad falls... please be careful! I had a lot of dizziness when my B12 was low... I had other deficiencies, but was sure it was the B12 because it went away after I supplemented and the levels went up, versus the other minerals which I was also supplementing, but the levels stayed low. Do you get shortness of breath for no reason as well? that can also be a symptom.

It could be a number of things. Without knowing more information, methinks it's a bit of arrogance to say what it is or isn't at this point.

it's true that it could be a lot of things.... i wouldn't just start taking all kinds of vitamins and hope that's it, some can be toxic in high amounts. maybe a general blood test would be a good start. I would say a bit of dizziness upon standing is fairly common, but blacking out sounds like it could be hazardous.

Well, I'd say: become as active as Rev, eat a lot of spinach&beetroot and if you still don't feel good after doing all of the above, then go and check your blood levels :D
Iron deficiency anaemia. I have the same thing, have done since I was 12 - I'm 19 now.
Go get a blood test :)

Hmm, interesting that I'm reading this list as I remember one of the thread posting about this. I'm reading one ot the Bragg's book/there is a list of Body Signs of Potassium Deficiency/listed here it dizzinness upon straightening up after leaning over. May want to check into this.... Are you're getting plenty of raw food, there are plenty of potassium in raw food!!! It could be this or something else.
But whatever it's in hemp oil helps me if I experience dizziness which I haven't had for quite some time now. I'll take a few spoonful of hemp oil and it goes away. Maybe it the essential omega fatty acid you need??? It's what it felt like I needed at the time. Hemp seeds and oil is super super super good for the brain!!

People have suggested getting bloodwork done already and that's an excellent idea. Betterbe safe than sorry, and it does sound like you migt be low on iron.. at least that's the most common reason for dizzyness like yours.
But in case the bloodwork doesn't show anything, it might also be a) your age. You're still at the age of growth spurts and those might make your body wobbly, OR b) tight muscles. You didn't mention anything about muscle soreness or neck/shoulder pains, but tight un-stretched muscles can cause circulation problems that would cause dizzyness.
Hope you'll be feeling better soon. :)

Wow, I had no idea about the tight muscles. I always have lottts of shoulder/neck pain, it's basically never not sore. Also had some blood testing done recently, it will be interesting to see the results from that although considering the amount of spinach and dates that I consume, I'd be willing to bet raw has improved my iron levels. In the past they were always too low to give blood.

Stretching and doing yoga is one all powerfull tool for feeling good and it's just something that's easy to forget when you're busy. I have very tight neck and shoudler muscles myself if I don't remember to stretch them out regularly, which leads to dizzy spells when trying to exercise and particularly doing any moves that involve looking up or raising my hands above my head.
A few days of regular arm and neck stretches and the dizzyness goes away. You'd think I'd remember, but noooo... XD
