My Goal for September is to get some kind of movement in EVERYDAY....whether it be a quick walk around the block, some simple yoga movements, teaching my yoga classes, getting on a piece of exercise equipment or doing an exercise dvd........Just SOMETHING!!

I find I feel much better when I focus on this.....it's been a while since I have tried to do this, but my body & mind sure appreciated it! ;)

I'm with you Monk. Getting in some movement EVERY day!

One of the things I began last month was to do 100 reps of some movement every day. For instance ~ squats. I might do 10 reps, 10 times a day or, 25 before a meal....

Today, I'm planning on going down and doing some stretching; then doing 100 macebell swings.

I am going to do 20-40 min of kundalini yoga. Things are *super* hectic right now (starting college after a 15 year break, kids started school today, and 2 other *looming* deadlines to meet by Friday. blech.) but I hope to add in a 5 mile walk next week, and add another 5 miles the following. I love doing 2 five mile walks a day. Starts my day off right in the morn and destresses me in the afternoon.

The work-out part of my day is done. I began at 7 a.m. with about 10 minutes of stretching and then throughout the day I completed (short) mace swings ~ 100 in each direction; swipes with 2, 5# irons clubs ~ 100 total and the daily dozen bodyweight moves ~ 12 of each. It's 6:30 p.m. and I'm done!

Food ~ caffeine free hot tea; 2 dried figs; 1 HUGE white peach; a large bowl of watermelon; 7 fresh figs. I'll most likely have a salad before 9 or so.
Oh! I'll have drunk 32 oz or more of water as well.

see y'all tomorrow!

My movement/fitness goals for this month are to start more light strength training, yoga, light jogging, and I would love to take up a dance of some kind... haven't decided what interests me most.

As for today, more walking. I cannot get enough walking. I work a full day at work, mostly on my feet. I come home and sit down, only to feel the urge to get up again and pace around the house. I go for several walks a day (mostly short) but have been steadily increasing my long walk (2 hours or so).

I'm guessing my constant urge to walk is maybe my body's way of telling me I should change it up a bit. I've never had this feeling before because I was always forcing myself up and out of the door. I dreaded exercise. Now it's like I need to tell myself to sit and rest. HA!:D

Maybe the dance and yoga will do the trick.

Good luck this September everyone!

Since I am smoothie fasting/feasting in September, I will just focus on walking. I didn't do it today, but I will on Sept. 2.

I so need this thread in my life right now!

Goals for the month:MOVE and STRETCH every day + drink 3 liters of water every day

This morning I let my 4.5 month old son lead the stretching...lots of happy baby pose, stretching hamstrings and spinal twists...and imitative play is so fun with him. Our movement portion of the program was hiking around our local botanical garden with him (22lbs!) on my back in his carrier. A great day!

But not enough water...tomorrow!

So yesterday was not good - I am fighting off a bad cold but I did get my usual 2 mile walk in this morning pushing the stroller. And my DVD (Debbie Siebers Slim in 6) came in the mail so starting Tuesday probably I will get on that every morning (love that workout - this is the 2nd time I've bought the DVD - lost the other one). The weight is coming off but I am still really flabby. So...here's to moving and thank goodness it will be cooling off soon! :)

So I walked about another 2 miles last evening and did about 1.5 miles this morning instead of my usual 2. :( I usually walk my son to school but he dumped me for some boys his age (he's 7) so I had to find a different route.

It's great that you can wind down the day with some relaxing yoga. Happy Labor day weekend to you too! Any fun fitness plans for the weekend out of the ordinary?

I plan to go to Botanic Gardens (Chicago) and walk around all day taking pictures. Can't wait!

As for today 9/4/2010 I will be going for my 2 hour walk, and I'm dog sitting for a couple neighbors so tack on another hour or so of dog walking through out the day :)

I've been off a couple days but here is the brief synopsis - Saturday we walked about 4 miles around Philadelphia - Sunday we walked about 2 miles of the Great Alleghany passage and this morning I did my usual 2 mile circuit around the neighborhood. And looking forward to some cooler weather to do some walking at night too. Didn't get to my workout DVD yet - but will soon.

Off to the gym in a few minutes to do my weight workout(takes about 40 minutes) and 15-20 minutes of high-intensity-interval-training on the elliptical, with a 5 minute warm-up and cool-down on either end of that period. I only do the high intensity cardio a couple of times a week, and hooping 4 days a week makes up the rest of it plus it's so much fun(been at it for 3 months now).
When I come home, either a good big salad, or a green smoothie awaits - best post-workout drink ever. Most likely going with that.

"Sounds like you've got a great system going!

Did you find it difficult in the beginning?" - monkapotapus

Hooping is so much fun that one almost forgets one is getting a great cardio workout besides! Tons of off-body hoop moves along with dance moves brings even more of the body into this and with great high-energy music you're SMOKIN' - no kidding! It IS challenging in the beginning though, to keep that hoop up for more than a few rotations, and some people are naturals at this and others take longer to pick up on this. But nearly anyone can learn to hoop - after all, many of us older ones did it as kids in the 1950s and cheap very light-weight almost toy-like hoops are sold now. The difference between the old hula hoops and the ones now is that there are different sizes and weights depending on one's own size and ability. Generally speaking, a larger diameter, heavier hoop is easier for beginners to get moving - this is why when an adult picks up an old kid's hoop it's too light and too small for their body, making it much more difficult to spin around. Also, the emphasis on current hooping is dance and movement-oriented, making it a lot of fun. One can bring whatever skills(dance, gymnastics, acrobatics/circus arts, flow yoga, etc.) one has to it too, that's where the magic happens for nice transitions and moves. This is something that resonates really well with me personally. I took a series of beginner classes back in June and into early July(one a week for 5 weeks)and I got a ton out of it, picking up on some stuff really fast too. My teacher was awesome and I'm hoping to take her advanced beginners' intensive in late October. Now I just love it and practice a good bit, plus there are nearly weekly hoop jams around here! I had dance training before(adult ballet classes for 4 years straight including pointe towards the end)plus I like to dance anyway. By the way, raw and hooping are really compatible, as one wants light, high-energy food for high-energy hoop dancing. Whenever I go to a hoop jam, people nearly always have fresh fruit and water along with light snacks. My macaroons were a hit a couple of times at these.

Hooping is not in my area yet.....
Do you have any suggetions for buying a hoop/hoop workout?

hi monkapotapus!
I don't know if I'm allowed to post links here but my suggestion instead right now is to google hoop dancing instruction, etc. A lot of people who teach also sell hoops. Also do a search on YouTube for hooping videos - there's everything from tutorials to people practicing all the way up to inspiring highly-advanced performers - all this will totally keep you busy awhile and you'll end up just HAVING to get a hoop and start learning - have fun!

I have been busy the last few days with work and planning my trip. The hardest part is finding places to eat and making sure I pack the necessary foods to stick with it.

Work has been busy and rough. Lots of walking around, lifting things. Rarely a moment to sit down. So I believe I got plenty of movement the last few days. It's raining outside here in Chicago today so I feel like having a pilates/yoga day inside and take it easy.

Tomorow will be going up to Wisconsin with the mom to a sheep and wool festival. She adores spinning and dying her own wool/yarn. And I enjoy watching the sheep dog trials :p In any way, I will be walking around a large amount of the day.

Good luck everyone on the weekend!

I got lazy for a while, but this past week has been good. Lots of pilates and running, along with sporadic jumping-jacks and push ups.
Today is my day off though, especially considering I was gifted a massage appointment, and I'm going to fully enjoy the relief.
