We don't normally post links (http://www.myfoxphoenix.com/dpp/morning_show/bernando-lapallo-celebrates-birthday-08172010) but this is a must read and watch (both part one and two of the video) for us all. How cool is this! (I couldn't figure out how to post the video here... hence the link - you have to see how young this gentlemen looks!)

MESA, Ariz. - On August 17, Bernando LaPallo turned 109 years old! This Mesa resident lives on his own, still drives and walks around just fine - it's incredible, so I asked him to share some of his secrets.

Bernando eats primarily raw fruits, veggies and fish. Meat is a treat only once a year.

"This is my lifesaver, it keeps me alive..superfood..plus I take it everyday since 1979 - I never miss." said LaPallo.

He believes his clean lifestyle is why he's still alive.

"Well, I don't think I know that eating it's what you eat, you've heard people say you are what you eat, well you are."

Bernando reads daily, walks a mile and a half as soon as he gets up and his favorite product to use on his skin is olive oil.

Extra virgin olive oil is an age old secret he's practiced for years.

His faith is his foundation and his father his role model.

At 109, he's a popular man. He consults people who are trying to change their life for the better and makes speeches around the country. He's written one book, Age Less and Live More and is working on a second. His phone never stops ringing.

"I get calls from all over..Miami, Italy..I'm on TV in South America."

I asked him if he thinks about his final days.

"I never gave dying any though. I still don't. I know I've got to die. Everybody dies." said Bernando.

So what's next for a man who's lived over a century?

He wants to open a restaurant here in the valley with raw foods on one side and healthy American food on the other. But on his birthday, he's going to take a break from his busy days and celebrate another year of life.

That is so neat. My grandfather in Germany lived a very clean life and ate alot of fruits and veggies and lived to be 100. He died a few years ago, but was living on his own and taking care of himself up until he died.

It really is encourging. The Lord willing, I too want to live a long, healthy life!!

This was a great story! He does not look 109 at all. Go raw foods! :p Going to share this story with a few of my friends who are skeptical about the raw food lifestyle.

I have been reading about this guy on some other sites as well. He appears to be the champion of many groups....raw foodists, people who were raw vegans and then added some animal products back into their diet (since Bernando is not vegan), people that don't eat all raw (since Bernando isn't 100% raw...may be the reason for the crackers...), etc.

Just something I noticed.

I saw a video recently where Bernardo was interviewed. He was putting together his 'potion' of superfood in a blender. The video was posted on YouTube but I cannot find it. Also, it was incomplete as there was so much discussion going on, all the actual ingredients were not mentioned. Does anyone know what his superfood recipe is or where I can find it? I've already checked his website!
Thanks!

I'm a realist. Not a negative person at all. I've seen his videos and can easily spot deception. He is the biggest lier I've ever seen. He is pushing the 109 year old stunt to sell his book and no offense..you all need to wake up and smell the roses.

Watch the video below; at 22 seconds when the white guy mentions that he is 108 years old, bernando's jaw clenches(sign of deception).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mj7knA3-YUs

A lot of people want to know how to read body language to help them know if someone is lying to them. Signs are deception are similar to signs of nervousness and anxiety because the person is nervous about being discovered in the lie. Signs of deception can include:

1) Avoiding eye contact or looking down.
2) Touching the face or head with their hand.
3) Faking a smile. A fake smile will involve only the lips and mouth.
4) Shuffling his/her feet.
5) Expressions do not match the person's statements.
6) Clenched jaw. This can also indicate anger.
7) Licking the lips.
8) Signs of nervousness or anxiety.

You are entitled to your own opinion. Just cause it's yours doesn't mean we have to embrace it. ;)

I bought his book! I too was a little sceptical about his age claims, especially since it's known that Paul Bragg lied about his age a little but I think this guy is the real deal.

His daughter is Lee Chamberlin an actress who was born in 1938:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lee_Chamberlin
"From 1982 through 1991, Chamberlain portrayed Pat Baxter, the mother of the popular character Angela Baxter Hubbard on the ABC soap opera All My Children."

His book is an interesting blend of memoir, with little stories about his plucky experiences, and health book. The book has no recipes but it does list his top ten foods and goes into detail about them. It also lists a few dozen other foods he eats frequently. It also goes into how his father was a herbalist (or something like that) and how he was raised on healthy food.

Possibly the most interesting thing I learned from the book is that he has a daily routine he does with his feet to keep them soft; he soaks them, scrubs them, puts olive oil on and then puts socks on and goes to bed.

He does this to keep them soft but this reminded me so much of those little detox pads that people put on their feet that help draw the toxins out that I wondered if this was helping him detox and stay young and I started doing it myself. I just do the oil and socks part, I haven't gotten into the soaking and scrubbing part yet, but I love putting oil on the soles of my feet before bed and I miss it when I don't do it.

Thanks for the review Rawmiss! I might buy his book in the new year. :)

The oil and socks method sounds interesting, i used to do a similar thing with my hands, soak, rub oil into them and put on gloves then do housework. Made my hands absolutely soft and wonderful!

I am sorry guys, but this man isn't 109 years old. He is in his damn early 70s.

Go watch some videos on Youtube of Asians who are 90 years old and they do look 90s years old, regardless of them being healthy doing tai chi, or on the Okinawa diet. I have never seen a 90 or a 100 something year old who doesn't look it, regardless of them being healthy.

There are lots of healthy centennials who look old as Moses. And he doesn't even come close looking old enough to being darn 80 years old.

He is shady ya'll.

I agree on this. He closes his eyes too damn much when explaining what he does. Many lawyers and people in police enforcement always say that when someone tells you the truth and know that they are, they have no problem looking at you dead in the eye. The liars always have to avoid eye contact or keep on shifting their body movements. Body language never fails when someone is lying to you. This dude got the twitches like a mofo.

rawmiss
12-21-2010, 11:48 AM
Please, his daughter is 73 and is semi-famous and has been in the public eye as an actress since 1970, so it would be hard for him to change his age just to get publicity.

If his daughter is 73 then he would have to be at least 90 to have been her father at the age of 17, but he didn't start a family until after he had spent a few decades at sea since he was a sailor early in his life.

His father, a herbalist, taught his family to be healthy and so Bernardo has been healthy all his life which helps explain his healthy appearance and long life.

All this guy did was write a book to tell people how he lives and what makes him healthy, he's trying to help people, and it's good to be sceptical about such things because some people lie but please do some research before you write someone off as a liar.

To end all the mystery and disagreement about his age, offical records indicate Bernando is 101. So, not quite 109, but he still looks damn good for 101. I would take it anyday at 101!

Are you kidding me??? Those websites are not reliable! Do people seriously think that news stations and other media who have interviewed him don't do homework to verify facts before they go public with his claims? When someone makes outrageous claims (and his certainly qualify) they are going to be scrutinized.

Like you said, even if he is 101 that still remains pretty unbelievable. =]
And plenty of normal people act differently in front of a camera, so I don't think usual behavior analysis would entirely apply to someone being filmed - especially if that person witnessed the invention of the camera!

Well actually they are reliable. I've looked up at least a hundred people (friends and relatives) on that particular site and the age listed is spot on accurate. That includes myself and immediate family. Don't beleive it if you choose, but it has proven to be accurate.
