I was watching the video of Ani Phyo making her "Kreamy Avocado Soup" and thought it looked really good. Any ideas what I could use instead of miso?

The Ingredients List Is:
1.5 avocados
2 tblsp unpasturized miso
2 tblsp olive oil
2.5 cups water
1 limes juice
3/4 teaspoon rosemary
1/3 teaspoon chipotle

I often sub miso when it's called for with a mix of garlic, mustard, a little salt and a little lemon juice.

could you share your measurements of the ingredients? I've had no luck finding miso

Er... measurements??

Um, I'm afraid I don't really do measurements, especially with flavouring ingredients.

What I'd do for the above is sub the 2 tblspns of miso for 1 tblspn of the mixture (as the ingredients are very strong), something along the lines of half a tblspn of MILD raw mustard, 1/2 or less of a clove of crushed garlic, a dash of lemon juice, a good 2 pinches of celtic salt. Mix it all together and add. :D

thanks for the recipe. I don't want to buy miso bc I feel it'll go bad on me. Now, I can make things with it in it!!

I've had a container of miso in the fridge for probably over a year. I just keep it covered and so far, so good - hasn't gone bad yet. *Ü*

You can just leave out miso or any substitute altogether. Many ingredients aren't really that important. If you need more flavor, add your choice of spice/salt.

Add some celery & you'll have a delicious creamy celery avocado soup.

I've not ever known miso to go bad, you can eat it years after you buy it. It really isn't something you need to worry about going bad.

nama shoyu would work. Sometime i just use celtic sea salt or himalayan salt to replace miso.

I asked Cherie Soria (Living Light) about a substitution for miso and she said to add salt and a bit of agave. She said that miso adds a sweet-salty flavor to food.
