View Full Version : Champion Juicer in a Thrift Store

I have found a Champion in a local thrift store for $50. It's a white plastic model (a bit stained of course) but looks to be in good shape and appears to have all parts and pieces.

I have a cheaper centrifigal juicer that I don't use a lot because it only works 'so-so'. Would this be a "good deal" as an upgrade or would it be better to do the twin gear type as the ultimate? I really only want to end up with ONE juicer due to space constraints.

All opinions welcome!

Most places will retrun so try it. I think it's good deal.

I ditto above! I have a Champion - have had it since the early
80s! Yes, it will be stained, it does get that way.

They hold their value - I think I paid $230 all those many years ago. I wouldn't want to be without it.

If you have any questions about it - I'm happy to help if I can! *Ü*

GET IT!

I wouldn't have left it at the store!

Finds like that are pretty darn rare!

Twin gear are great, but I don't think you'll ever find one for 50 bucks. When you're ready for one, you'll be able to sell the Champion for the same as you bought it for.

So, basically, GET IT! You can't really lose here :)

Thanks for the input. Obviously I was dumb to have not snatched it up, lol. If it's there, it will be mine. Guess even with all the 'yes' I'm still not excited... I'll get there.

Now to run across a dehydrator. I'll upgrade that as well, although mine 'works fine'.

Thanks again!

What aren't you excited about? About juicing..? Don't forget the frozen fruit ice creams - so good!

I took my Champion to our Raw Food Meetup twice and processed frozen: bananas, peaches, mango, strawberries and sweet cherries all for different flavored "ice cream". And the crowd went wild! ;)

Yes, that's exactly right; I DID forget about the ice creams! I'm on the fence about juicing - and living in an RV up north and a park model in the south - I'm space deprived. I'm heading to the thrift store when I get done on the computer.

I love thrifting! About 2 months ago I about gave myself whiplash as I did a double take of a 4 tray Excalibur, still in the box with all the accessories it came with for $10. It was like brand spankin' new.

I've got a 9 tray, but could not pass this one up. I figure it'll be perfect for our 5th wheel!

I also snap up Mason canning jars (wide mouth) whenever I see them too for 25¢ each. I've even found 1/2 gallon size - love it! I go to our local thrift store 3-4 times a week. It's my reward after I'm done @ Curves. :D

I bought a sweet smaller food processor for $3 last month - perfect for the 5th wheel, I use it every time we go camping and I don't have to lug out my Cuisinart when we pack. There are great bargains to be found! *Ü*

Have you watched any of the Renegade Health Show videos on YouTube, with Kevin & Annmarie Gianni? They live in a motor home full-time and have about 2 inches of counter space - ha! I'm exaggerating, but I know what you mean about feeling space deprived! *Ü*

Back to add - they do a kitchen episode, with recipes, etc. on Wednesdays. It's so fun to watch!

I have outfitted the RV with appliances from the thrift store! A challenge, I guess. Found a spiralizer for $2 but it was half price day, lol. Now I have an extra so don't have to haul it back and forth. And since I don't use the oven EVER, I use that to store those types of things. Works for me. Found a 3 c. FP the other day that's perfect. Just have to do batches if I want something larger, but again, it's just me (DH is mostly SAD, will just try things sometimes) so the size is actually pretty good.

I'm really NOT a thrift/garage sale shopper, but I have time so what the heck. Retirement rocks.

I've been kicking myself for passing up a 10 tray Ex. at a garage sale (before I went raw) that I really "felt" I should buy. Again the space thing, so I resisted. Bad, Kathy!!

I don't think it's a good deal. So... what you should do is buy it, and I will send you the money so you can send it to me so I can check it out. :D

My mind is in a boggle at all these things you can find in thrifts stores!

Champion? Spiraliser? Excalibur?

Those things hardly even exist in normal stores let along thrift stores here!

I think if I found any of those in a thrift store (or Op Shop as we call them), the poor store volunteer would be getting a big smooch and a hug, and everyone in the store would be treated to me and my happy dance craziness!

Make my day? That'd make my YEAR!

Though every time I do go into a second hand store I always go over the kitchen area to have a look, one can only hope!

Well - they are not something you see every day, that's for sure! I was soooo surprised when I saw that little 4 tray Excalibur. I thrift and yard sale a lot and these are the gems that reward!

I have to say though - I have been having a nice run of luck as I've found 3 pretty crock bowls, and for just a couple $$ each. Sigh ~ Heaven! I got a sweet big wooden cutting board that I just love a few months ago. It's been loved, but it's new to me and I oiled it up and it's my favorite. (I love wooden cutting boards) I could go on and on.... it's a fun little hobby of mine. *Ü*

LOL. It's in MN... see if you can beat me to it!! It needs some parts I figured out, after some more research. Not a problem apparantly, just another issue.

Perhaps they'd bargain the price with you a bit then? My good friend owns a thrift store and she's always willing to bargain. But I know places like Good Will usually won't...

I ordered a new blade for mine and it was $35 I think. They list all the pieces and prices on Champion's site - you probably know that already though! *Ü*

After moaning about never finding these sorts of things in thrift shops where I live, I went to our local trash and treasure market and saw not one but THREE Breville juicers AND a Sampson juicer (the one like the champion). The Sampson was $50 (but I already have a Champion). I bought one of the Brevilles for $10 and will clean it up and make sure it works and keep it as my every day juicer (Or give it to a friend, haven't decided yet).

I never go to this market, but must start going regularly, cos I reckon with all the kitchen stuff I saw (and the fact that lots of older greeks and italians hold stalls there and they're the ones growing and preserving their own fruit and veg) I may just come across a deydrator!

I already have one, but know lots of poor students who would love one (and indeed one of these student friends has my old round tray dehydrator from when I upgraded).

I LOVE MARKET AND THRIFT SHOPPING! :D

Wow klomasius ~ You hit the juicer jackpot!

And they had a Samson for $50 (eek) I just ordered one last week from John Kohler. We love our Champion, but I wanted something that would juice wheatgrass. And then when I saw it has an attachment to make cold pressed flax oil (can be bought separately), I knew I found what I was looking for.

It will sure beat paying $14 for a 12 ounce bottle of flax oil. We did the math and the savings in flax oil alone by pressing it ourselves will pay for the juicer in less than 10 months.

Gotta love thrifting!! *Ü*
