so this morning i tried making nut butter and i did it:Di'm so happy after i grinded the nuts up i added raw agave syrup and blended it all smooth and oh it tastes so good.
I didn't think it would turn out good but i did it and it was great.
No more spending money for nut butter ever.

I haven't had success yet with making my own - but I'm not giving up. I've got a few more recipes to try and I know I'll be able to do it.

I'm tired of $spending the big buck$ too on the store bought almond butter! *Ü*

I've been living in small spaces lately and just don't have all my kitchen things available... has anyone figured the cost ratio of buying vs. making your own? Taking into consideration time, waste, additions if any, etc??

K8, I've found that it takes about four cups of almonds to make one jar (8oz?) of almond butter. (Edit: Not sure though as I always snack before it's done). No waste or additions. I don't know how expensive the almonds that you buy are, or how reasonable the pre-made almond butter available is for you.

They have it for $10 at my WF
Brand is Martha's I think.

One of the workers there recommended it to me and said it was raw and that he uses it.

Wellll you have to wonder about the pasteurization of almonds, and then how hot it gets when they make it. I mean, if my two-cup batch heats up, why wouldn't their mass-produced butter end up cooked?

If not for this, I might have given up and added some sort of oil. It does take a very long time for the nuts to release all of theirs.

This worked exactly like the pictures showed....they were a great help.....just made this...won't be buying almond butter again...added a pinch of H Salt and a small dab of cocnut nectar...it's delicious!

btw...I had to stop and scrap the sides down quite often, toward the end the butter was warm to the touch but by no means hot at all~
