Does anyone know of a place that is private and safe to go for a water fast getaway? One that will not empty my pocket??

I do think that the prices charged by the places that supervise a fast are shocking but if you are not in the habit of fasting then it is cheaper than allowing something to go wrong.

well i guess that's all about perspective.

one of our members went to a fasting retreat and in my opinion (which is not an educated one) that retreat pushed her waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much. they were doing colonics numerous times a day (or at least once a day i may be remembering wrong)... she started passing parasites and they just kept pushing her body to pass them all... and she was loaded with them.

from her sharings it sounded like she was very very ill from it all.

now if she had been fasting at home... it would have been much more gentle and she wouldn't have had the same horrid (in my opinion) side effects.

i would think... being at a retreat... that you may feel pressured/bullied into doing things that perhaps you wouldn't do if you were not there alone without any support from your loved ones.

but that's my two cents. her experience really put me off fasting retreats.

I see your point and I suppose that like everything there are good places and bad ones. I just felt that it would be a comfort (especially if you were on your first fast) to have your vital signs monitored.

for a first fast... doing a few days and watching how you feel is better. the more you fast the more you become aware of "this is from fasting" or "perhaps i need to slow this down cause i'm not helping my body i may be harming"

it's important for people to remember... you can always fast again. you don't have to do the X amount of days this time. you can break your fast, wait a little bit and restart.

gentle is the key!

This is so true! Why do we forget such simple wisdom?

you're absolutely right. one can stop fasting whenever he/she likes. Don't force yourself to fast if you're unhappy about it.
