View Full Version : August fasters - Part two

I thought I'd start a new August thread since the other one (http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=61081) is so long. Perhaps some new people would like to come and join this thread... as we love to have company!

Ah it's time to start a new thread... since the month is changing and the July (http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=60574) thread is getting really looooooooong.

Here's are the 'rules' of this thread:

Please do not discuss specific food. Feel free to share "My hubby was eating and it was hard for me." Please don't share "My hubby was eating X, Y and Z..."

The reason we do this is so no one ends up getting a craving from a fasting thread. As a faster we can choose to click on a thread which discusses food but we need the safety within this thread to know food is not discussed. Juices are shared, green smoothie recipes are shared... but not 'chewable' food.

Here's my commitment:

I'm here to fast. I'm not here to eat. I will fast until I choose to stop but I will NOT stop my fast on a bad day, at night or today. I can choose to break my fast next week in the morning but not today.

I'm here to gain health.
I'm here to gift my body the time and energy to bring my body to a state of health.
I'm here to release - whatever needs to be released. Physical, emotional, conscious or unconscious things... I'm here to release them all.
I'm here to bring a greater depth to my spirituality.
I'm here to support myself and others.

I'm almost 10 weeks in and happy to continue fasting.

I wrote these a few years ago but they still hold true for me:

In my experience:

1. Decide how you will break your fast BEFORE you begin fasting. Have a clear plan on how you will break it. Breaking your fast is more important than how you do your fast. Your body has been resting and needs to be awakened very gently!

2. Start every single day with one litre of water. Drink it first thing in the morning before you do anything else. Try to drink 4 litres of water max. a day unless you live in a hot dry climate.

3. A centrifugal juicer yields less juice from the same amount of produce than a masticating juicer. (So over time your masticating juicer will actually pay for itself.)
The first three days of a fast are the most difficult. Your body is adjusting to not eating, you are getting used to drinking your meals and your body is not yet in resting mode (digestion wise).

4. Around the 45 day mark of a fast... I hit a hard spot - I usually want to stop fasting around this time. If this happens to you and you want to continue fasting (at this point or any other time) try switching things up for yourself. If you are doing juice - switch it up to water for a few days. If you are doing juices and want to stay with juice... change the juices you are making (perhaps just do fruit juices or just do green juices for a few days).

5. Surround yourself with love while fasting. Even if you are going through stress-filled times... surround yourself with love! Perhaps write a note on your bathroom mirror saying "I AM A CHILD OF GOD/DESS AND MY LIFE IS FILLED WITH LOVE!"

6. Read books on fasting during your fast.

7. Be gentle and kind with yourself.

8. And remember... Juice fasting is less than 4 litres of juice a day. Juice Feasting is 4 litres of juice a day (or more). Water fasting is nothing but water. AND most importantly... you can do all these different fasts during one fast. A day of water here... more juice another day and less on another. Allow your body to follow it's own flow.

9. There are no rules for fasting... create your fast to fulfill your needs!!!

10.You can always stop fasting and begin again another time. Just be sure to break your fast gently.

Oh look, a bright, shiny, new thread to spam up... I mean... to visit! HI! :D
Crap I can't stop being hyper - help. :(

My walls are getting dented - I can't seem to stop bouncing off of them.

sounds like you need to go do some rebounding or go for a nice walk! use that energy for goooood. ;) LOL

What is rebounding? I was going to ask you something else, but now I can't remember... it will come to me! I'm loving how I feel, and loving the energy, but geez I need to find a way to harness this stuff - maybe I could sell it and get rich... LOL

And for some reason today I can't stop sneezing. Guess there's something my body needs to get rid of. I'm about to drink the town dry too - can't seem to get enough water...

I'm water fasting for 2 weeks. This is my first extended fast but, self-hypnosis is really working to keep me on this fast. I'm very sure i can do the 2 weeks :)

LornaG

After 2 weeks I have broken my fast as planned with a raw salad and some soaked fruit. The only reason I stopped juicing is because I am going away on business, so will stick to as much raw food as possible.

When I get back I will start up again because although I had a few days where I was so tired I could not think, once that passed I began to feel really good.

I am on day 23, still going strong. Today and yesterday have been off days. I feel really bloated. I am drinking lots of water but I feel so...full, not tummy wise but like I need to move a lot of stuff. Ugh.

I was run down feeling today. Day 5 for me of at least a 14 day fast (maybe 19 or 20, though). At least work wasn't super busy and at times it was downright boring and I thought the day would never end! I'm looking forward to the weekend so I can sleep in longer.

Fortunately, my sleep has been pretty good and I haven't had the sleep problems that I normally have had. I hope it continues to be so good. I thought about food a lot today, but kept reminding myself of my goal(s) and that has kept me going. I have helped DH fix his dinners but at least he eats raw so I just remember that a lot of what he eats, I am getting in my juice!

Aleesha- Enjoy the mini vacation at home. Sometimes those can be the best!
I'm glad you put the info in about having a plan on how you will break your fast before you start your fast. It made it easier for me on my past fasts when I knew ahead of time what I was going to eat and how much, etc.

Have a super evening ya'll!

I'm doing okay but the last days have been really hard. The self-sabatoging part of myself is trying to end my fast but the grounded centred part of me is winning.

But I'm hanging in here... and I'll continue to do so. Overcoming adversity brings great gifts... and I'm open to the many gifts this fast will bring me.

montyloree
08-20-2010, 03:47 AM
Aleesha... how do you know if it's self sabotaging or your body's way of telling you "that's enough" ?

missyc
08-20-2010, 05:35 AM
Monty- That is kind of along the lines of a question I have as to how do we actually know for sure when our bodies are telling us we need to stop.

Starting Day 6 here. Feeling pretty good so far other than the normal morning "weak" feeling as I get myself woke up and ready to get to work.

Aleesha Sattva
08-20-2010, 10:41 AM
The only way I can explain it is: how do you know when you are in love?

It's the same kind of thing. You just know. I know this is my "monkey-mind" (as we put it in meditation) chattering at me and it's not a true message saying I need to end my fast.

Also, 68 days isn't all that long for a fast so I know my body doesn't need me to stop.

When I did my 84 day fast 2 years ago... at the end I knew I needed to stop. It was a much different feeling than this is. This time... I know I need to just gently hold the space as I move through this, cause every moment that passes brings me closer to a place of calm.

Hope that answers your question somewhat. As I said when I began - it's like asking someone if you are in love. You just know.

So I've decided to do a day of high water. My water levels have dropped HUGE lately and so I've already done my first litre and I'm going to drink a litre every time I go pee until noon. We'll see how my body feels about a nice internal bath. *smile*

And Monty, welcome (((smiles)))

Aleesha Sattva

Aleesha Sattva
08-20-2010, 01:13 PM
oh my godddddddddesssssssss. i was just topping up the fish tank in the kitchen. too lazy to get out the hose for it so i just used buckets to fill it.

as i was waiting for them to fill, i was drinking water... and drinking more water... and then drinking more. i am sooooo waterlogged right now LOL

but hey... my water level is definitely UP - so that's a good thing!!!

oh and i pooped again today - did yesterday as well. both solid.

Aleesha Sattva
08-20-2010, 04:39 PM
been drinking water like a fish... just came back from a really nice hour walk. it's a perfect day for a walk, nice and warm but not too hot. and suprisingly, i didn't need to pee while i was out.

i'm still drinking lots of water... not sure how many litres i'll get in today but i'm thinking i'll start slowing down soon...

AllergyGirl
08-20-2010, 04:40 PM
You sound like me yesterday - I felt like I could not get enough to drink. It lasted all day for me, but today I'm back to my normal amounts... guess I was a couple quarts low. :P

Sounds like you had a nice walk - that's great. :)

Aleesha Sattva
08-20-2010, 04:44 PM
yesterday i was up two pounds so i thought perhaps i was retaining water... so i figured i'd up my water today. this morning, i was down the 2 pounds but decided i would do the high-water-day regardless.

i may or may not have my savoury blend for dinner tonight... we'll see how i feel. i'd love to do a day of water, but alas... i prefer to feel good whenever possible when i'm doing an extended fast - so water isn't necessarily a choice i want to make.

Thank you for the insight on knowing when to end a fast, Aleesha. It makes perfect sense to me. Glad you got your water retention taken care of! lol...

I started a juice fast 3 days ago, but, I ate the 1st 2 days.

I made my 2 signature juices

1. Watermelon shell skin with fresh lemon juice and Cayenne pepper

Juice #2: 2 Celery, fresh spinach and 1 whole Armenian cucumber.

I removed the pulp from the #1 but not from #2. I ended up not drinking much of #2.

It hit me around 1 and 2:30 pm, had the butt juice.

Now, I am feeling so much lighter and I am not hungry at all.

That watermelon rind is the best.

I am going to try the yellow watermelon next time I go shopping.

I am trying to stay low in sugar, sugar for me turns to fat.

I need to lose about 35 more lbs.

I am seeing results, so that is all that matters to me!

Next is to buy a trampoline, after a juicer!

Aleesha Sattva
08-21-2010, 12:00 AM
been reading fasting info all night. i think i'll do another day of high water tomorrow. probably the same as today... water all day (lots of water all day) and then something for dinner like cantaloupe perhaps for tomorrow since i'm out of tomatoes and red peppers.

i think i'll go read through my blog archives... look at my past fasts and where i was at this time with them. see if there's any similarities.

so tomorrow is 10 weeks - 70 days on this fast.

I haven't gotten thru all of the fasting link yet, Aleesha, but it is good reading! I keep thinking I'd like to do a 30 day fast at the beginning of next year to start the year off right... Although I am slightly hypothyroid and don't know how it would affect that. I read this before and then saw it again in your link:

Most people can juice fast safely for up to 30 days. The exceptions are those with hypoglycemia, diabetes, hypo thyroid, and Wilson's Syndrome. For these conditions, eat slices of avocado and banana every few hours, add high quality vegetable source protein powder to your juices, and add psyllium or another good bulking agent to your juices twice a day to regulate blood sugar levels. Do not juice fast if you have impaired kidney function.

I guess if I added in the things they recommend, it might be fine. I think that being hypothyroid is probably what makes me feel so rundown on some of my fasting days.

The good news for me is that as of this morning, I am 25.5# less than I was on Mother's Day this year!

Congrats Aleesha on 10 weeks. What an accomplishment and a step closer to your eleventy-one days :)

missy... I totally understand about the thyroid issue. I swing back and forth between hypo or hyper thyroid. I'm not sure where I am now because its been about 8 months since I last checked. I've done a few juice fast in this time and found that I did need to take my suppliments or I got extremelly tired. But other then that, juice fasts make me feel wonderful.

My husband is still going on the fast. Today is day 25 for him. He has totally loved it and is thankful that hes been able to do it. He'll be stopping on Monday, and is hoping to transistion slowly to solid foods again.

in Light,
Cathy :D

Miss, isn't releasing weight just so wonderful! I love seeing the scale go down.

Thanks Allergy (((hugs)))

Ah... 70 days... feels pretty surreal to even share that to be honest. 70 days ago I began... not knowing where it would take me and here I am - standing strong and tall 70 days later without a single smidge of a cheat. I'm so pleased with myself.

I was laying in bed this morning thinking about how this fast is different from my 84 day fast (my longest fast) and it was very deeply spiritual. Very deep spiritual. This one isn't as much. I realized that it's more centring. I feel very centred. Very peace-filled. It's cool how different fasts bring different gifts. No two are the same so expecting to get the same gifts from doing it again isn't realistic.

10 beautiful weeks gifted to me, from me, to me. No one else can gift me this. This is something only I can do, only I can achieve for myself. This is mine... solely. Mine to hold, mine to experience, mine to absorb.

Ahhhhhh bliss.

I plan on doing another day of high water today. I feel like my body can use at least one more day if not more... so I'll go with this.

AllergyGirl

Yes, Aleesha, the weight loss is a huge plus for me! Even though I've worked with a natural doctor for over 2 years, the weight wasn't coming off. He kept telling me to be patient and that my body would let go when it was ready... Even though my toxin/heavy metal levels kept going down quickly and steadily, the weight didn't come off. I gained weight (16#) when I first started with him and it just wouldn't come back down. I finally got to where I knew I was healthy and was feeling much better and it didn't stress me out.

When DH started juicing, I didn't even want to try it... It wasn't in the "program" the nat'l doc had me on. So, I kept doing what I was doing for several months before I finally told DH I would start trying it... I added it in for breakfast and started getting use to it. Then DH kept talking about how healthy fasting would be. I told him I COULD NOT do that! It took me until May to decide to actually try it... I would fast for 48 hours and then eat a meal (huge salad usually), then fast another 48 hours and eat and repeat. After the first week, I had lost 8 pounds! So then I decided to try a longer fast and by June I had lost about 18 pounds. I couldn't believe the difference! I started eating more raw (which I had also told DH I just couldn't do! I wanted my veggies steamed!) and would eat 4 days and fast 3 days each week. I realized that I was able to keep the weight off after my longer fasts, which was amazing to me! After I got 20 pounds off, I let myself just stay at that point for a few weeks and enjoy the differences I felt, but I knew that after vacation, I would be ready for a longer fast again. And here I am!

That is so great to get to 70 days and still feel so wonderful! I am happy for you and all your success.

We went to a place called Hallelujah Acres today. I've heard tons about it and DH has read all their stuff online. I know a guy who use to work there as a "health minister" also. And my ex husband buys some of their products and every time I see him, he asks if I've been there yet! It's a bit of a drive for us but it was a good day for a drive today. Eric ate in the cafe and loved it. I sat there for a few minutes but then figured I should go check out the store and not sit there watching him. He got some Barley Max to add to his juices. They also have a juice bar there and he got a fruit smoothie. I tried a couple of sips and it was fantastic!

It was a nice "adventure" for us today.

it's amazing what fasting will do. so glad you have had and are having positive experiences.

just got home from a lovely walk with my daughter. we didn't go the usual route, instead we went to town (we live in a very very small town) and walked around town centre (which is one block). all in all it was an hour walk so i'm pleased.

have only done water so far today. much less than yesterday though. three litres so far and i'm working on my fourth.

i may just do water today or i may have a cantaloupe juice for dinner since i'm out of my savoury items to juice.

we'll see what today brings me.

Aleesha Sattva
08-21-2010, 07:39 PM
i've drank water all day today... about 5 litres i think and i just had dinner. i made a cantaloupe juice with mint... i feel so full - so over stuffed... i'm uncomfy. i just had a bath to relief the discomfort and that didn't help. guess i'll just wait for my body to absorb this... should feel fine in 20 minutes max.

guess i drank too much too fast. i used a bowl and spoon, but it was so good i think i spooned it up faster than my tomato blend... oh well, live and learn.

disco, it's up to you... no harm in mixing although i'd keep melons alone or only with greens... but you can, of course, do whatever you desire.

see what works with your body. if it doesn't like kale with tomato, then don't do it. if it does... then enjoy!

i've drank so much again today... and i thought i'd try something different. i had a 1/4 cup of cantaloupe with mint left over from dinner so i put a few shakes of cayenne (hot) in it and wow... what a GREAT blend! so tomorrow nights dinner will be... cantaloupe, mint and cayenne! hoping i can fit some kelp in there without ruining the flavour... i'll have to see how that goes.

night all.

I need to break this fast either on Monday or Tuesday...gotta go back to work for 3 days then I can fast for 4 days again! I am thinking of having some Avocado to break my fast.

I am trying to stay low sugar/carbs

Does anybody want to share non fruit recipies?

Also, for someone who has dementia and a broken hip, any juice to help speed up her recovery...she is 67 with advanced dementia...no surgery, not eating but she liked the cucumber spinach celery blend I gave her today...

read through the fasting threads (the long ones especially) - they are full of blends of juices. full of them.

greens are healing, fruits are cleansing... so make her juices with greens in them. don't overdo the greens... but just make sure there's something green in each of her juices.

Aleesha- I hope you are feeling better today! It must have really been some good juice!

Jengo- That is absolutely fantastic! You are doing great!

I had wanted to juice those peaches I had, but DH started eating some and fell in love with them! I decided to just let him eat them since I probably need more veggie juice than fruit juice at this point in time.

I can tell I'm hitting a detox point! I don't feel sick at all... just very drained and achy and tired and my sleep the past 3 nights has gotten worse. It is fascinating how our bodies work and respond to things. I will keep pushing through and let it run it's course. I think I am going to push for 18 days this time around, so I'm almost halfway there.

Thank you Aleesha, my body seems to be responding pretty well to the fruit/green blends. I make sure not to go too overboard with the fruit either. :)

Amazing. Last night I couldn't sleep. Pure energy until about 2 AM. Then I was able to wake up early this morning for a jog. When I woke up it was as if I never went to bed-- wide awake with perfect mental clarity. No grogginess whatsoever. I don't even know what to do with all this energy!!

The power of fasting! :D

i hear ya, fasting is amazing. i love the clarity, the energy, the lightness in my body...

i didn't have a great sleep last night but i was rewarded with the scale moving again this morning so that was a nice treat to wake up to.

another high water day is in order... i'm going to do this till my body says no and since my first thought when i woke up was "water" - that tells me my body wants more.

the cantaloupe is always yummy but after only consuming water 90% of my day lately... it tasted amaZZZing indeed. i'll try the cantaloupe with cayenne tonight. should be a nice change.

well, i'm off to drink water... later folks!

it's raining here so no walk for me. it takes too much to warm up when i get cold like that. i think i'll take a warm bath instead.

It's been a pretty good day today even though I feel weaker. I have been hungry some. We put some fennel in our juice today. It was good! We hadn't tried it before, so it was a nice change.

I got DH to take some pictures of me today at 142.5#. We'll see how much more I lose and where my body decides it wants to be.

I think by the time I lose a few more pounds and get the "love handles" under control, I will be at a good weight for me and will just try to work on toning.

I used the sauna tonight. I love that "quiet time" to myself to clear my mind and feel refreshed. I'm also trying to get my water in today. I drink a lot of water normally but the weekends are my harder days to get it in. I've found that drinking more herbal teas mixed with some green tea helps me get more water in plus it helps warm me up since fasting makes me feel cold.

Aleesha Sattva
08-22-2010, 06:27 PM
in my opinion... water is only pure water with perhaps some citrus or herbs in it but not tea. but that's me in my world...

I don't usually drink that much of it unless I'm having trouble getting enough water in. We have a water alkalinizer that we love, especially for washing our fruits and veggies and it's great for drinking and keeping us alkaline.

you have celebrating? tell us tell us...

i was on my way to bed and realized it was barely past 8 and i would be up so early if that was the case... so i stayed up and watched gilmore girls. ;)

i feel better... still not blissed out or anything, but not nearly as grumpy

AllergyGirl
08-23-2010, 12:07 AM
Yes yes there is celebrating to be done! I have been wearing 3X and 4X shirts for MANY years, and yes I've lost 30 pounds now, but I didn't realize I was shrinking so much. My sweetie was at Goodwill the other day and bought this really cute jacket - he gave it to me tonight, and I looked at the size and was like "uhh... I can't wear an XL...". He made me try it on anyway...IT FITS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :o

I can't quite zip it up - well I can, but it's snug across the chest, BUT it fits, and it's adorable, and holy crap it's an XL! :o

This means that I have to figure out what the heck size I actually wear now - I need to get a dress for my brother's wedding and was going to get a 3X, but eesh, it might hang like a sack...

Aleesha Sattva
08-23-2010, 12:10 AM
wait till very close to the wedding. when i first went raw i bought a dress for my daughter's wedding... by the time of the wedding it fit VERY differently than i did when i bought it 3 weeks before!

AllergyGirl
08-23-2010, 12:12 AM
Okay. :D
It's not until October 9th, so I guess I'd better wait a bit.

Aleesha Sattva
08-23-2010, 12:14 AM
and here's a pic of the dress at the wedding. this dress was super tight when i bought it. it hugged EVERY curve.

08-23-2010, 12:16 AM
Wow that's gorgeous. Luckily I don't have to be super-spiffified, I found a navy blue one with small white flowers on it that I was thinking of ordering. It's simple but pretty, and is about as much dressed-up as I can handle. :P

AllergyGirl
08-23-2010, 12:42 AM
It's so crazy... I mean I know I've noticed small changes... but from 4X to XL?!? That's insane. But amazing! Think of the possiblities clothes-wise now. I have always abhorred shopping - might have to actually like it now. :P

Aleesha Sattva
08-23-2010, 12:44 AM
you will... but don't buy too much cause you are shrinking...

AllergyGirl
08-23-2010, 12:46 AM
Nope I won't, but it'll be hard not to - school starts in a month, and there are so many cute smaller things. But maybe one new cute thing would be okay. :P

Ooh maybe those size 20 jeans will fit by then! Still in the 22s which in itself is shocking.

Aleesha Sattva
08-23-2010, 12:49 AM
i can't remember what i was wearing when i first came to raw... i think it was size 26 bottoms and size 3 or 4 XL. now i wear size large or medium depending on the store - tops and bottoms. and size 8 i think... can't remember. i haven't bought any clothes lately. LOL

AllergyGirl
08-23-2010, 12:55 AM
Oh my gracious, we're very close then. I was 28 in jeans and 3X or 4X in tops. In fact, I often wore men's 3X shirts because they were baggier and I could hide better in them... I feel like I've hijacked this thread - y'all are gonna need another new one. :P

I am so happy for you, Aleesha! You have a reason to celebrate, that's for sure! I'll shake my booty for ya! lol

I've had a really good day today. Feeling good... Scales haven't dropped anymore but I am feeling good!

Something cool has happened... I use to be hard core low carb for years! I have been a member of a low carb forum for probably 9 years and even though I'm not doing the low carb lifestyle now, I still go there sometimes cause I got to know some people and we keep in touch... One of them was so impressed with how I'm doing that she went and bought a juicer last week and since Saturday has already lost close to 4#. Then one of my coworkers has been asking a lot of questions and ended up buying a juicer as well and is getting started on juicing to lose weight and improve her health. It's inspiring to see people get on board the juicing wagon! Juicing was my stepping stone to switching over to raw so they may just end up following the same path, which would be great!

Aleesha Sattva
08-23-2010, 05:49 PM
i hear ya... i love it when people in my life go out and buy a champion. i've had three friends do that... another who used mine to do her juicing.

it's cool to inspire others. i love it. i even tell people how to juice and what to juice at the market LOL

The cashiers and baggers at our grocery store always ask what we do with so much produce and we tell them that most of it gets juiced. Some of them are really intrigued by it and ask all kinds of questions. The produce mgr loves us for buying so much produce. The first time our favorite bagger bagged our order, he looked at me and asked, "Did you leave any produce over there?"(in the produce section) We have a lot of fun with it if nothing else! Gets people thinking anyway.

DH has a couple of friends who started because of how well he has done and they have gone off their diabetic meds completely. I just love happy stories like that!

You are so right. Like DH always says "You can't make people do something they don't want to do." All we can do is let people know what works for us and what it has done for us and hope they will use the information to make the right decision for themselves.

Enjoy your walk!

Tomorrow is day 30 of my 30 day juice fast!!

Thanks to Aleesha & everyone for your support..
I learned alot, had a huge contrast with eating food... lessons I'll never forget!

I think I gave my body some good time to heal and purify..
Honestly... while my goal was 30 days.. I don't think I would go longer.. not this time... I think my body is telling me "enough"!!

The benefits: I've lost weight, and my energy has come up! I'm more interested in doing things which is good... so, all in all a good experience...

After tomorrow I will take my time to break the fast... I believe it's six days to break the fast.

What a great and valuable experience.

Thanks again to everyone for sharing it!! Cheers

congrats Monty!!!

Miss, I totally agree and it was a great walk! I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I found the most odd shaped, nasty looking, non-spray somewhat local tomatoes at the market today. They were each the size of a babies head! I bought some and juiced them. They were the sweetest most beautiful tasting tomatoes I've ever had. Tomorrow I'm going to buy a flat of them. ohhhhh they were good.

What a great juice to celebrate my 3rd anniversary. I'm thrilled!!! :D

Aleesha- Those tomatoes sound amazing. I am already missing homegrown around here as our tomato season is pretty much shot.

I had some sleep issues again last night. I think that is one of the hardest parts for me because even though I feel wide awake during the night, I end up feeling blah later on!

Ok I have a question. Juice feasting and I want to get my massive protein in. The protein of plants are great however I require oodles more. Plus I cannot make sole green juices as I get too spacey as I have found out.

How do I get that in...my protein things.....additional superfood type proteiny thingys (edited to take out food talk), WITHOUT making a sweet smoothie. I am off anything sweet right now?

A dlilly of a dill lem na eh? Thnkx a bunch~!

Aleesha Sattva

add bee pollen, spirulina, chlorella, whatever other superfoods you choose bette.

miss, i didn't sleep well last night either. i was going to get up at 4am but decided to lay there instead... so when i did fall back to sleep at 6:30 and woke at 8... i felt so tired. i should have just gotten up. oh well... live and learn.

i'm hoping to get a flat of those tomatoes today. this isn't the market i normally get flats from so i'm going to talk some sweet words and see if i can get a discount. ;)

lovenlife- I ordered some protein powder that is made from raw, organic, vegan sprouts. I haven't gotten it yet and I may not use it until after my juice fast, but there are times when I feel like I need more protein as well and that sounded like it would work great for DH and me.

Aleesha- I hope we both sleep much better tonight! I was a little tired today, but not as bad as I thought I might be. I am going to go outside and sit with my barefeet in the grass in a few minutes and that will make me feel "grounded" and refreshed.
Did you get the tomatoes?

Glad you get to spend some time with your son and his girlfriend. Kids grow up sooo fast! Mine is 27 and I still can't believe it...

You rock, Aleesha! Congrats on 75. I am excited to see you hit that 111!

It is great to have kids to be proud of, isn't it? There are so many not-so-good ones in this world that the good ones really stand out! I complement parents when I see well behaved kids because I know they have worked hard to lead them in the right direction and I appreciate it. They are our future.

My body released yet another pound and I am lower than I have been in over 20 years! 140.5# I feel so blessed!

I'm onto day #12. It sounds puny compared to 75! :D

Aleesha Sattva
08-26-2010, 05:25 AM
na miss... no fast is puny. no amount is any different. once you are fasting... the only day that counts is the one you are experiencing in this moment. and... 12 or 75... you can't get to 75 without 12.

i slept for a few hours and then woke up feeling like it's morning. it was 2am when i woke up and it's 3:30 here now... i hope i'm not up for the day... but if i am... here's to day 75!

going to do high-water today.

Good morning Fasters!!!

I am SOOOO ready to begin my fast again!!!! I'm gonna aim for 21 days! Why 21? Well, that would end for me on September 15.... That is my 10 year wedding anniversary!!!! I honestly do want to go beyond that, but I think that's a good goal for me right now.

My life us too hectic for a water fast, but I've been doing juicing/smoothies/coconut during the day anyway. I'll just have to stop the Raw meal in the evening. Easier said than done cuz I look forward to that all day!!! So, because I absolutely LOVE my Coconut Milk, I think I'll look forward to THAT in the evening and do juicing/smoothies during the day.

There is a Jamba Juice at the airport, so I'll stop there if I have to work.

My only Challenge will probably be when I do Raw Classes! I'll cross that Bridge when I come to it...I just wanna focus on starting today....

I've spent time in prayer/meditation already and I have Juicing/Detox books to stimulate my mind. I also have Victoria's book on Smoothies, too.

So, this will be day 1 for me!!!!

:). I promise:

* I will NOT break my fast without pre-planning to do so.
* I will PRAY, focus, meditate, and renew my committment to myself and my fast each day.
* I will NOT visit any Food threads until my fast is over!!!!
* I will NOT let myself get hungry.
* I will print out these promises and place them on my fridge as a reminder to myself...

This is a commitment I'm making to me for me!
* I will not break my fast today.

My husband and I juice cucumbers with our green lemonade (1 head of romaine, 1 cucumber, 1 lemon, 2 apples, a pc.of ginger). We also use cucumber in our tomato/veggie juice at night (soooooo yummy). And my husband really likes a cucumber mixed with a pineapple. It takes some of the sweet away. I also like it, but prefer my pineapple by itself

Happy fasting everyone...

Having "Tomato" juice/or "soup"... is that still considered "fasting"? Hummm... I wonder does that apply to all Raw Soups...in the "juicy" form that is Water Based? Or am I reaching.... ;)

congrats on day 1 and day 2 for both of you (((hugs))) enjoy your fasting days. enjoy every moment of them you can, find the good in each moment. focus on the good. that's what makes a fast really amazing... it's when you focus on the positive.

well today is my bodytalk session and i'm so excited about it it's crazy LOL i'm hoping i have some amazing results... this is soooooo up my alley. i've recommended bodytalk to a few of my raw food clients and they are blown away by their results. this is my first full session... i had to wait for an opening so i'm thankful today is the day!!!

i did too much water, too late in the day yesterday. (majority of my water was around 2pm)... i was peeing so much late into the night. have to get it in before noon for now on or not do a high-water day period.

lesson learned. :)

missyc
08-27-2010, 04:57 PM
I hope the body talk session went well today. I've never heard of such a thing!

Day 13 went great for me. Work was good and at lunch I went and bought 3 pr of SIZE 6 slacks! My 8's have gotten a bit baggy but I wasn't sure if 6's would fit yet or not... They do! I was so excited! I don't want to get any smaller than a 6. I think I'm really close to being at my perfect weight.

Then it was my Friday to leave early (we alternate) and I went to get my oil changed and I saw the dealer we buy our vehicles from... He didn't even recognize me till I said something! (I was 28# heavier when I bought my car in April) So, that was kinda cool!

When I left there, I stopped at a Farmer's Market that is on the way home from the dealer and bought 7# of tomatoes, a couple of yellow summer squash and red peppers. It's a super small market and there were only 2 people selling any produce so I felt great being able to get those things.

Going to get my dinner juice pretty soon.

Hi everyone... I'm still fasting... Just water today.

It turned out to be a really "trying" day. I received some bad news which threw me for a loop and had me in tears most if the day. I'm still quite upset, but I haven't had anything to eat because I keep remembering my commitment I made and I really want to see it through. Actually, that's the ONLY reason I didn't go off!!! It would have been so easy to drown my sorrows in food! But I don't want to do that.

Anyway, I'm sure I'll be ok... Just need to cry some more....

i had the most incredible session today. bodytalk is something everyone should do. really... it's amazing. it gets your cells communicating with each other... coooooool stuff - physically and spiritually.

i went out today and picked up 25 pounds of organic tomatoes for .65 cents a pound. great deal indeed. made myself some amazing juice tonight...

i'm floating on air...

and tomorrow... tomorrow is day 77... week 11!!!

Morning everyone!

I'm feeling better today. I went to sleep shortly after posting yesterday and slept all nite!!! I'm ready for day 3 today!!!!

You are amazing, Aleesha! Congratulations on 77 days!

Renee- I am glad you slept so great and are feeling better. Have a fantastic day #3!

I slept a few hours but then was mostly awake the rest of the night. I still feel pretty good right now, though. Looks like we have a busy day ahead of us. I will go take my walk first, though, and then lay in the sun before we do go anywhere.

I tried on a dress that I got a few years ago... Very nice dress for something special. It was reduced from $60 to $14 and I couldn't resist and even though it was tight in the thighs and butt, I figured I'd get into it eventually. I just didn't think it would take me years to get there when I bought it! lol... But now it fits absolutely perfect! Just like it was made just for me! Now I just need something special to wear it to!

4 days left for me to fast. I feel so unconcerned about keeping the weight off. I have had success with fasting a couple of days a week to maintain what I had lost prior to this longer fast, so I feel very relaxed about breaking fast. It is so much different than losing weight in the past! I love it!

Have a super Saturday!

*doing a happy dance for you all*

renee... so glad you are on day three... day four is a breeze!!!
miss, congrats on your size change... isn't it amazing stuff? one of my favourite shirts that i bought earlier this year and was tight around the tummy - i wore it yesterday and... it's really loose now. looks completely different on me. i was really able to see how much bust size and tummy size i've released. i'm super pleased about it.

i went to be super late last night (2am) and 6 hours later i'm fully refreshed and ready for my amazing 11 week celebration. going to make some juice and drink it!!! I KNOW... isn't that shocking??? *giggling*

Only H2O so far! Just went to Store & got mire Coconuts and fruit for juicing. I had a dream about Aleesha last night!!! I dreamed that she invited me over for her Tomato Juice!!!! So, I'm gonna make that for my ending juice today! It won't be the same as being there in Canada, but I'll still enjoy it tonight!!!! :)

I failed on my first day of the fast. From the early morning I had a burning sensation in my stomach...intense hunger...and no matter how much lemonade I drank it didn't go away. Finally I ate something.

I was trying to figure out why I was so hungry so quickly...I think perhaps it was because I had not had much sleep for two nights. Does lack of sleep effect your fasting?

Aleesha Sattva
08-28-2010, 03:36 PM
lack of sleep doesn't affect my fasting. your intense hunger is probably more mental than physical. it's amazing what our minds can create (as obstacles) for us sometimes.

renee... i'll be there with ya... feel me in the room... juicing those lovely toms with ya.

just got home from the farmers market. nothing there i wanted so i juiced up some cantaloupe and now we are off to walk to the market in town to get some cukes and limes for my tom juice.

mmm mmmm goooood!!!

Well, I often do fasts from morning till sunset for special religious days...and usually don't feel so hungry.

I'm going to try again. :D

Going to go to bed early tonight and wake up early and try to stay busy.

Aleesha Sattva
08-28-2010, 04:48 PM
Ah yes, staying busy... good choice.

And... it doesn't matter how often or how long you've fasted... the mind does it's stuff on us all. I've experienced it MANY times... and we all know how much I fast.

Is it better for a beginning faster to ease into it with smoothies or is it usually best to go straight into liquids only?

Aleesha Sattva

whichever you prefer. i started my first fast with juice and water. did 10 days. ate for 5 days and did another 8 or 9 day fast.

so it's whatever YOU want to do.

i just had another cantaloupe/mint blend. salivating over the thought of dinner... i sure do look forward to my dinner juice every night.

we are going camping next weekend. there's electricity so i'll take my juicer with me. it'll be fun. ;)

I've been outside most of the day today. It was pretty hot out, too. I felt weak and drained when we got home and I was soooo ready for my juice!
Now I'm trying to drink some water since it was so hot out and I didn't drink as much as I should have.

We did get to stop at a GoodWill store and I found 2 pr of bluejean shorts that were almost new. 1 pr were Gloria Vanderbilt! Then a pr of Nike carpris that didn't look worn at all. Also got some knit workout shorts and a blouse. All for less than $20 so I was happy!

I broke 140# this morning (139.5#) so I have felt really good about that today. I also remembered that my DSIL gave me some Mickey Mouse summer pjs last June for my bday and I have never been able to even attempt to fit into them, so I tried them on and THEY FIT! Then I was taking the larger size pants out of my closet and putting them away and found some other smaller clothes that I forgot I had and they fit good, so it was like going shopping without spending money!

Hi all!!!

I just enjoyed my Tomato Juice!!!! Yummy! I made it in the Vitamix, though... Yummmy!!!

Earlier I had Watermelon juice and water for most of the morning....

It's been a really good day. I'm still emotional from yesterday, but it's nothing I can do about it now. I'm just gonna enjoy what I'm doing at the moment and go on....

Gonna get some extra sleep tonight and go to bed early...

Nighty nite fasters!!!! :)

had my lovely tom juice and watched a movie... a favourite. "the age of innocence"

now i'm relaxing and hoping my back pain will lessen. it's been pretty intense for days now... i've had two baths (or three?) today to relieve the pain, took extra arnica and have a heating pad on my back.

Good morning! I hope everyone slept well. I had a much better sleep than I have been having and it was very nice!

Day 15... Only 3 left. Part of me has no problem with that and the other part of me is anxious to get it over. I want to be able to do more intense workouts again. The past 2 days I've noticed my heart racing with just simple movements and bending and I don't like that at all. Up until a couple of days ago I could do a good bit more than that before it bothered. So, I want to get back to building muscle and muscle tone and interval training and not have to coddle myself so much!

I don't regret the fasting at all, though. I know it is doing my body tons of good and this is just the beginning of better things for me.

i'm looking forward to my cantaloupe juice today. it's all i've been craving, cantaloupe and my tom blend... mmmmm even my young coconuts are just sitting in the bottom of the fridge wondering if they'll ever get opened LOL

Thanks Aleesha!

I have had the hardest day yet today. The rebellious part of me wants to break fast and the stubborn part of me won't do it! So, I'm just going minute by minute talking to myself constantly giving myself pep talks!

It will soon be sauna time so I can go escape and after that it should be easier.

I had a great time soaking up some sun earlier. We live in the woods so it's nice and private. Our neighbors are the birds and animals in the woods. So, while I was laying there, I was listening to the insects, birds, squirrels running thru the leaves, etc... And DH was inside playing music (he's a musician) so it was quite a combination of sounds.

We sacrificed the rest of the parsley we were growing in pots on the deck to some monarch caterpillars. It is weird because that is not a normal food for them, but there were a good 3 dozen that ate it down to almost nothing. I just came back from going out in the field to find them some more suitable plants to eat.

I think I will go wrap DH's bday present to keep me busy for a few minutes... Then I should mop the floors...

ah yes, the mind can be an obstacle whether it's day one or day thirty... overcoming that obstacle is VERY empowering. very empowering.

when i overcome it i feel like i can do anything. after all, i overcame that so now i can do this and that and this...

just came back from a lovely walk... not sure what to do with the rest of our day.

I got thru the day without breaking fast! I knew I could, it was just a matter of refocusing on other positives in my life. I have also realized the two things that triggered me wanting to break my fast so I understand why my brain was thinking along those lines.

All is well now and I have enjoyed my day. A nice long sauna helped a lot, too! Then I made juice and it was so good food didn't matter anymore!

My back is a bit achy. I am going to chill on the sofa for a bit while I wait for laundry to finish drying.

Another night of insomnia...

Was just reminded of why I wanted to fast in the first place. I have problems with staph infections (boils) and have been battling them on and off for around 3 years now. Was hoping that fasting would allow my body to rest from food and spend more time on fighting this stuff off.

Any advice?

I've been feeling lousy the entire weekend... I've been sticking to Raw juices/Soups, but I don't feel any better today.

I work nights and can't seem to catch upon my sleep at all. I feel so weak and tired. All I've been doing is staying in bed. And, even though I'm sleeping a little, I feel like physically I'm exhausted...

I did take some B-12....

Gonna try to hang in there another day... Just take it one day at a time....

Aleesha Sattva

Renee, perhaps your body needs a break from digestion. It is exhausting especially when it really wants to sleep. On your next fast, perhaps try that???

Straw, the body heals what the body heals. You can't tell it do something or direct it. It knows what is most important. For example: You see a boil, it sees a tumour. Which would you want it to work on if you knew about the tumour?

Our bodies are way more intelligent than our brains are. Let it be. Get out of the way and just let it be. That's what I do. I drink what I feel the desire to drink as I believe it's my body asking for something specific. I just go with the flow and give my body as many days as I can... pushing the fast longer and longer in order to gift my body the time and space to do what it needs to. If ten days is your max... then gift it those ten days and fill them with love and joy as much as possible. Read books which take your mind to a happy place. Spend time doing things you love to do. The more love your body is surrounded by the more healing it can do.

I slept so well last night again. I love this 'good sleep' phase I'm in. My hubby returns home tomorrow after two weeks away. It'll be interesting to see how we manage to merge again. He loves to have the tv on 24/7 and it has barely been on since he left. My peaceful sanctuary will alter...

So today I'm going to sit and relax. Enjoying the quiet of my home... readying myself for change.

Thx Aleesha... Honestly I wish I could do that.

I was in bed most if the day. A great Friend took my kids for me which I appreciated so much. I enjoyed my Coconut Milk and Water, but I really don't feel any better.

I'm gonna stay with water/juices/soups for now... I dont qant to do anything "solid" still for a while. I guess it's not a complete "fast", but I guess it's the best I can do right now. I wish I could do it like you all...well, maybe someday.

I can understand how you feel as far as quiet, Aleesha. If I am home alone, the tv is rarely on. I tend to get lost in my own thoughts and don't like the distraction of tv or radio. DH is the opposite. He's always researching stuff online (he is a whiz kid with fixing computers and electronics, so he's always keeping up on the latest things) or playing music or watching tv. He has a building with a workshop and music studio in it that he uses most of the time, but sometimes he plays in the house, too. And he's always checking out music online so I get my fill of noise and distractions sometimes. He wonders why I "tune out" so much! lol I just get all the noise and distraction I need at work so when I get home, I like to have it more quiet and calm.

Strawberry- The lack of sleep is frustrating, I agree. I have read that it's normal and that because we are resting our bodies more during fasting, we don't need as much sleep. But for me, I end up being tired the next day and feel like I could fall asleep if I had the chance, so I don't fully understand that!

Renee- I am sorry you're having the reactions you are. Your body must really be trying to rid itself of toxins. I hope it will ease up soon for you.

Renee, you may find even changing it up tomorrow (if you are still fasting, I can't remember if you are continuing) then it'll give your body a chance to remove those toxins and get to a place of energy. I have heaps of energy, I got for a few walks a day... so it's not the lack of fibre that gives me energy, it's the lack of toxins to release. ;)

Roop, welcome!

My last night alone... oh how I'll miss it but I'm also very much looking forward to my hubby returning... six of one, half a dozen of the other.

ReneeH
08-30-2010, 09:18 PM
Yea, I am... I'll try only H2O tomorrow and see if That helps.

I just figured with the adding of soups (no fiber though) I wouldn't be considered "fasting"...

Aleesha Sattva
08-30-2010, 11:22 PM
fasting is whatever you want it to be. you can fast from media, you can fast from sex. you can fast from X, Y or Z. so... a fast is whatever you make it.

i was suggesting you try a juice fast (no pulp or fibre) and if that's what you are doing now... i wouldn't kick it up to water cause you'll have zero energy on water. instead, perhaps try adding more fruit juices to your daily intake?

ReneeH
08-31-2010, 05:48 AM
You know what, I think you're right! Water won't give me any energy and I've got a busy week ahead.... I'm not drinking enough.... I'll up the juice today. See ya over on the Sept thread!!!! :)

Aleesha Sattva
08-31-2010, 09:31 AM
I started that thread so it would be there since I have a busy week ahead. No rush going there though.

Renee how much juice are you consuming? 3-6 litres is a good amount - closer to 6 if you are low in energy... personally I find cantaloupe gives me heaps of energy.

I slept well last night. It was nice to meditate and rest so deeply again. I go get my hubby in an hour or so and then we have heaps to get done today. So I'm sure I'll be scarce.

ahhhhh just had a lovely bath... i'm sitting here feeling warm for the first time today. feels nice. it's raining and chilly today. beautiful... but chilly nonetheless and this fasting body doesn't like chilly unless it's dressed in layers (and it isn't)

i have a super busy week ahead so you won't be hearing from me as much... but i'll still be around. perhaps we can all mosey over to the sept thread?

Today turned out to be quite uplifting for me! I have never really thought that I would give water fasting a try, but this morning I just had this feeling hit me that I should try it today. I figured I'd do it till lunchtime at least... Well, lunchtime hit and I didn't feel hungry and didn't care if I had my juice or not... So, I kept going until dinner tonight. A 24 hour water fast! I felt really good this morning, too. I was a bit more tired this afternoon, but not so bad that I couldn't handle it.

I did my sauna and just drank my dinner and may just water fast thru lunch tomorrow and then later I'll be breaking my fast. I'm sure I will still be fasting at least 2 days a week so I'll still be able to keep up with these fasting threads. It's a little bittersweet to end this one! But there will be more for me!

Aleesha Sattva
08-31-2010, 06:05 PM
remember, breaking from a water fast is different than breaking from a juice fast. you need to break from a water fast for at least a day on juice.

congrats on your fast miss... great achievement!!!
